11th for me and I haven't even looked at it yetBlush.

Am really pleased though I got my mark back for the January one (with all the hymns) and it was pretty goodSmile I think I'm going to stop going on the course forum;

it's a bit misleading there were loads of people on there having these really in depth debates about which exact brand of methodism.....

sorry fell asleep there. Anyway I didn't bother with all of that and did ok so maybe it's THEM missing the point and not me Grin hooray!

winnybella · 29/01/2011 12:20

Hello.

22nd.

And one before that

I am solemnly vowing to submit it at least 3 days before deadline. Hmm Grin

ilythia · 29/01/2011 12:31

Morning (just)

Missed all the birthdays on the lst thread so Happy Birthday to winny and madwoman!

I have one due in on the 18th, another presentation in april and a deadline on monday for the brief/title of my next essay, due in in may, and another due in June.

My problem is that I have a list of six topics for 3 of them, but not the fourth. But I can't do the same topic for any of them. So needs to be four different. But as I don't have the list for the last one I don't want to choose until I know what the other choices are as they may be overlap.
Confused? I am.

Oh, and I also have to write 2 worksheets and a presentation on ICT by monday first thing.

Grin i'm 40 now!
anyway, self-imposed deadline for feb:
15th - submit presentation write-up and methodological analysis (this should be easy, but as ever, i might find another million or so things to do in the interim)

i also have two research proposals to do... but i'm still umming and aahing. i've got a small tickly idea that would be brilliant if it came off, but i'm worried that i might offend the person in question if i contact them straight out and ask if they would be willing to take part. so i'm going to have to play carefully and hope that a previous participant might agree to act as a gatekeeper for me...

i'm going to try the 'breaking it down into small attainable targets' route this month, rather than the 'panic and not do anything' unsuccessful route. so my first two targets are - 1, find the presentation. Blush (it's already finished and presented, just not, er, submitted Blush and now it's... filed somewhere. and 2, e-mail possible gatekeeper. i'm going to try and have new targets every couple of days... (they will be itty bitty small targets as time dependent at the mo!)

ilythia, when will you get your fourth list?

yay, schroeder, that's fantastic! well done.

i can't promise to get naything done early (narrows eyes at winny in jealousy) but i'm going to have a really good go at actually doing something this month. Grin

Coleysworth · 30/01/2011 18:28

I did some work today Shock

Still a week behind my study schedule though so won't be wheeling out the smug emoticon any time soon ...

How is everyone getting on? Winny how are you doing with that Middlemarch essay?

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/01/2011 20:38

Hi all. The 8th is my deadline, I currently have a messy essay-of-sorts with lots of bits of text I have marked in red which require urgent attention. However I am off on holiday tomorrow, so they will have to wait. I am going to seriously regret this next weekend when I get back, but right now I don't feel particularly bothered :)

As soon as that is in I need to start on the next essay and presentation, both for mid March but I want to have them under control. That is the plan anyway Confused

LB29 · 30/01/2011 20:54

schroeder-are you studying with the ou? Nearly 2 years ago I went on a course forum and stated that my first tma was only 3 sides of A4 long. Loads of people made me feel really bad, saying they didn't see how it could be possible to write so little. I got the tma back and got 87 pc. I tend to avoid the forums now as there seems to be regular clashes of egos and bitchyness.
My first tma's are due at the end of march however I am trying to stay a month ahead this year. Otherwise I'll be in the same situation I am always in. Have to write a 1000-1300 word essay for half of the marks. Might not sound to bad but I'm used to maths questions so I am feeling pretty nervous.

schroeder · 30/01/2011 21:02

Yes OU basically the course concentrates on analysing texts especially in the TMAs.

On the forum though people do seem to get bogged down in the philosophy or religion or whatever.

I am glad I haven't let it influence what I write.

Very impressed with your 87!! The best I've managed is an 73, but I was chuffed with that to be honest-it's a very challenging course and it's 15 years since I last studied.

ManateeEquineOhara · 30/01/2011 21:16

I did OU for a while and thought the forums were just a bit silly, discussion ALWAYS seemed to go at a tangent to what was actually important! Well done ignoring it!

winnybella · 01/02/2011 22:41

Am writing the bloody thing now, have to write over 1000 words in an hour.

Ha hahahahaahahahaha

Coleysworth · 02/02/2011 13:01

Did you get it done winny?

OP posts:
winnybella · 02/02/2011 15:07

Er, yes. Sort of. 650 words instead of 2000.

An essay plan, really.

Got a C because of a word count, but he said he agreed with everything I wrote/praised my grasp of issues etc etc (even the bloody modern critics, which was the toughest part) so I am feeling quite silly at the moment- if I had expanded on the points I raised I would get an A or B.

The good news is that I thought I would get 10 points at best and also that if I get really good marks for the next 3 tmas I still have a chance of getting a first (well, not really, as will be a few points off for OCAS, but if I pass the exam with a v.good grade I would hope they might upgrade Hmm)

But it's done, finally.

I am so not repeating that with the next tma. 22 Feb. When's yours due?

Coleysworth · 02/02/2011 16:23

Brilliant, oh well done! What a slog that one has been eh?

My next one is due on the 19th. I'm almost up to date with the reading but it's at this point that I usually start to slack off a bit, so must keep going at all costs.

OP posts:
winnybella · 02/02/2011 17:27

Thank you, thank you

Grin Well, not really brilliant, but whatever, it's done.

I've already started reading for next tma. I need to get over 90 Hmm

Keep on going, no slacking! What's the question?

Coleysworth · 02/02/2011 19:43

But what's brilliant about it is that you did manage to submit something in the end and, you know, it would have been easy to have given up, but you didn't. So that's quite an achievement, in my opinion :)

My next one is on liberalism and religion: it's more interesting than it sounds! I've been working through case studies on the French riots of 2005, the debate on abortion in the US and the Iranian revolution of 1979. I really love this course!

Did you say that yours is on Hardy and Zola?

OP posts:
winnybella · 02/02/2011 20:04

It sounds very interesting. I thought that the French riots were about general dissatisfaction of youths in suburbs/ghettos? What does religion have to do with it? Is it about their backround as they were predominantly muslim (I think).

I actually live here Blush

winnybella · 02/02/2011 20:06

And yes, treatment of women in Far from the Madding Crowd and Germinal. The other option is about 2 different publications of FFTMC (book and a Cornhill magazine) and the targeted readership of each.

Don't know yet which one I'll pick.

webwiz · 02/02/2011 22:26

Gosh your deadlines are all close together. Winny haven't you just had one? My next TMA is due on the 10th of March so I have a bit of breathing space till then. Just got my last TMA back today and am very pleased with the markGrin.

winnybella · 02/02/2011 22:37

Well done, webwiz Smile

Nah, it was the same one, I've been talking about writing it for 2 months now Hmm.

schroeder · 03/02/2011 20:12

Right I give you permission to kick my arse my TMA is due on the 11th and I haven't even looked at the rubric yetShock.

My last TMA took about 2 weeks!

I will presume and give the rest of you that need it a kickWink

BuzzLightBeer · 03/02/2011 21:32

Hi all.
I've got worse since I popped up on a previous procrastinators thread. I just can't seem to get anything done. I've got a lab report due tomorrow and her I am on MN again.

Starting to get really depressed about my inability to just get on with it. Sad

winnybella · 04/02/2011 12:15

Kick, kick, kick.

Get on with it, people.

You don't want to end up like me, having to write 2000 words in an hour and a half before the dealine.

I'm being all saintly and reading what I should be reading, for once.

mustdash · 04/02/2011 13:34

I have a theoretical deadline on the 8th, but have an extension because of my mum dying. I have been using a different avoidance tactic each day.

Monday - Mumsnet
Tuesday - Cleaning kitchen - now spotless
Wednesday - Clearing out cupboard - good news I've found my text book.
Thursday - reading OU hints on avoiding avoidance.
Friday - read text book for one hour, then made a stunning lunch for DH. Now about to go to DD3's class to finish making hand puppets with them.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 04/02/2011 13:42

9th and not done much!

I have done some analysis, sort of. And thought about things. A bit.

But I've just wasted about 4 hours and read maybe 1 article?
