This is regarding the previous post regarding the Snag brand selling patches that promote choking. But of course we aren't allowed to be uncomfortable with it as women without being branded bullies etc. Disappointed is putting it lightly after being a loyal Snag customer from their first year. But I guess my experience as an abuse survivor is not valuable because kinks are being shamed, to heck with mine or any other abused people's discomfort with such wording. As expected the usual "kinks rule" brigade are out in force to shout down anyone with any genuine concerns. Not great Snag, not great..

They won't get a lot of supportive comments if it hits a mainstream audience.

I read the comments on that post on Facebook; can't believe so many women think this is ok. I left a comment saying as much, then blocked Snag Tights, I expected a backlash of vitriol defending them 🙄 it's depressing.

There are always going to be some that think it’s ok and they will have deleted or blocked the ones that disagree with them.

NashvilleQueen · 22/01/2024 17:05

Patronising condescending bullshit.

NashvilleQueen · 22/01/2024 17:06

I'd say we might hurt their brand by boycotting but they'll just sell to men and be fine.

WolfFoxHare · 22/01/2024 17:06

It's up to you as a parent to ensure your child goes into the big bad world as prepared and educated as possible.

@Illpickthatup well no shit Sherlock. It’s still not ideal to have a women’s clothing company promote such harmful misogynistic messages, though, is it? Or are you going to claim that social media and advertising has zero effect on young people?

This thread really has brought out the underthinkers today.

Indeed.

it’s really depressing how 1. Sex is increasing equated with fetishes (and any objection is presented as the preserve of frigid prides) and 2. How everything must be presented through this highly sexualised lens.

then people pretend that growing up in a culture that very clearly tells you that women are only valuable if they are sexy and being sexy means enjoying strangulation is totally fine and dandy.

Snag tights have actually said mumsnet is a threatening environment for mothers?!

Without exaggeration, mumsnet practically saved my life when I was in the deepest depths of ppd.

I've also seen several threads where mumsnetters have found strength and advice to leave their abusers successfully.

Mumsnet is pure gold. I hope they sue Snag for libel

Mumsnetters held my hand and talked me through the immediate aftermath of my dad's sudden death. They also cheered me on a few months later to do an unexpected pregnancy test after years of infertility and celebrated my positive result with me.

How is having a certain kink misogynistic? It's certainly not a gender specific kink either. I know a few men who enjoy being choked. I also have some female friends who enjoy it and have never gotten the impression that they're doing it against their will.

fedupandstuck · 22/01/2024 17:19

Of course this issue differs for each sex. Men can kill or seriously injure women with their hands and no preparation needed. Women are extremely unlikely to be able to kill or injure a man whilst trying to strangle him. Unless the man is seriously incapacitated.

Can you think of a single case of a woman who "accidentally" strangled a man during sex? Nearly all women don't have the strength nor the inclination to do it, where nearly all men could and too many want to.

Dianesfizzyrose · 22/01/2024 17:21

I do like their tights and have bought many pairs over the years but will not do so again. The owner sounds like the worst type of be kind nightmare with her posts about Mumsnet and TERFs.

If she’s reading this, personally over the past decade Mumsnets boards and posters have helped me to stick at breastfeeding with the sage and kind advice I’ve had on here. Helped me through struggles with my teenager. Once in the middle of the night when I was alone and in a strange hotel and scared about the man in the room next to me. Helped me with a delicate financial issue I needed quick advice on. I’ve seen women in abusive relationships post on here and receive support and practical advice that has helped them get out of awful situations. There is a whole community on here of smart kind and funny women supporting women, who recognise woke misogyny like the type Brie and Snag espouse, and I feel deeply sad for Brie and her friends and fans with their warped, intolerant beliefs.

Rather fewer men want to buy tights, whatever Snag may think. It’s certainly not good business sense.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 22/01/2024 17:33

That Facebook post is the most patronising drivel I’ve read in a long time.

I don’t understand how or why a company that set out to sell size inclusive, fun coloured tights (for which there was definitely a gap in the market) felt the need to brand themselves as a fetish site for perverts.

weebarra · 22/01/2024 17:43

Being short and fat, I'm probably Snag's ideal customer and I've bought many pairs, as well as their knickers and chub rubs. I know they won't care, but I'm not buying any more.
Mumsnet has supported me with so many things, including ND children, family suicide and my own cancer. Such as great resource for parents.

Of course some kinks can be misogynistic! There are dozens, if not hundreds, of paraphilias that are harmful and misogynistic. The fact that you are calling strangulation a kink doesn’t mean it’s value-neutral. Even if some men enjoy being strangled, the vast majority of ‘choking porn’ features women being hurt, and in popular culture, it’s women who get choked. It’s women who die and then their murderers claim it was ‘consensual choking’. It’s women strangled to death with their own tights. Those badges weren’t being marketed at blokes. You’re being disingenuous here.

HolidaySwears · 22/01/2024 17:47

I don't really give a crap if people enjoy being choked or spanked, or want to express that desire through a patch with the help of a large, inclusive and influential company who has done a huge amount of work for the disabled, LGBTQ and Trans communities.

The shitty response to someone expressing valid concerns is what puts me right off them. Encouraging a witch hunt in their own comments has me sending back what I've ordered from them before it's even arrived. THAT kind of shit is what sets inclusivity and understanding back.

Bibbidybobbidyroo · 22/01/2024 15:24

Great! Let them have it then. A bunch of MN users flouncing off to M and S in outrage makes this even COOLER to them.

Well done!

@Bibbidybobbidyroo
You do realise that by being on Mumsnet and actually commenting on posts, you will automatically be seen as a ‘flounder’ and will have sold your soul for a pair of M+S knickers. 😂😂😂

saturnspinkhoop · 22/01/2024 17:57

Just read that Facebook post. Patronising, misguided fuckers.

HolidaySwears · 22/01/2024 17:58

I'd also like to point out that Mumsnet, outside of the feminism boards and little pockets where anti-trans sentiment flares, helped me GREATLY when I had an issue relating to a child and their gender identity. I didn't get any vitriol for seeking support for this child and no one jumped in to turn it into a debate.

They see the feminism board which represents a very small corner of the millions of worldwide userbase and make massive assumptions about the rest of the site.

BEWARE: After clicking that Facebook link it's opened up a load of porn tabs on my iPhone. No one else can access my phone, no one shares my account. Horny something or other and trans dating to name two. All just after I'd opened the link. I only discovered them trying to get back to a travel link.

Well done Snag for managing to get so much free advertising for your kinky site.

Some fetishes deserve to be shamed, and anybody who chokes another person for sexual kinks is a sorry excuse for a human being.

Portakalkedi · 22/01/2024 14:26

Bollocks to that, they are simply pandering to a very tiny minority at the expense of the vast majority of their customers, ie women. It is pathetic woke virtue signalling. Hope it's worth losing many more customers than any they might have gained from this.

And it's not just Snag pandering to a minority and ignoring the majority (women).
Let's hope the 'choking fans' don't mind if he goes too far and they end up dead.

SoOutingWhoCares · 22/01/2024 18:32

Bloody hell, reading the facebook comments I feel like I live on a different planet and quite scared of the future. Quite happily staying away from Snag in the future, they and a lot of their posters have been drinking the delulu juice.

fewgoo · 22/01/2024 18:35

I haven't bought tights for decades, just don't wear them apart from funerals so I'm sure my views don't matter.

The fb post was astonishing, the bullying and nastiest
