This is regarding the previous post regarding the Snag brand selling patches that promote choking. But of course we aren't allowed to be uncomfortable with it as women without being branded bullies etc. Disappointed is putting it lightly after being a loyal Snag customer from their first year. But I guess my experience as an abuse survivor is not valuable because kinks are being shamed, to heck with mine or any other abused people's discomfort with such wording. As expected the usual "kinks rule" brigade are out in force to shout down anyone with any genuine concerns. Not great Snag, not great..

86% of Americans have tried BDSM? Really? Wonder what the source for that is.

Depending on how you read it. I think the punctuation is wrong and it could be read as 86% of those that tried it liked it.

Alternat · 22/01/2024 16:20

Thanks for posting. I was about to buy some tights from them, and will no longer do so. Their response was so utterly clueless.

StephanieSuperpowers · 22/01/2024 16:21

Well I hope there's enough kinky kids to keep them in business, but I certainly won't be buying from a company that insults me and women like me.

Being treated with respect is my personal fetish.

sendismylife · 22/01/2024 16:24

Popsy clothing do a range of tights, chub rub shorts etc in lots of different colours, including black! Their clothing tends to be lovely quality, and if you’re a stationery addict, their notebooks are beautiful too.

The source they provide in one of the comments shows its actually 42% with a further 44% who have thought about trying it.

What Snag Tights thinks of Mumsnet.

Yep was just coming on to post this.
Funny how Snag switched from Be Kind to Fuck Off Mumsnet after just a handful of comments.
I'm embarrassed for them.

purpleme12 · 22/01/2024 16:30

The comments on the Facebook post from Snag towards Mumsnet is very derisory.

gawditswindy · 22/01/2024 16:30

It's the 'cool girls' principle. If you don't encourage your partner to choke you - you're a repressed prude who is only deserving of derision and fake sympathy. . (Now, there's tolerance for you..)

However, I don't buy from there because I mistakenly thought their name was ironic. But in fact, all of their tights do snag. I've had 3/4 pairs in different styles, plus their kids' ones. All snagged. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.

Mytholmroyd · 22/01/2024 16:31

Lost my custom. Sneering at Mumsnet is a bad business strategy.

Anjea · 22/01/2024 16:32

Wow. Their comments about the million users on mumsnet seems a little shortsighted.

If I was involved in any way financially with that company I'd be worried and furious.

No more snag tights for me, I buy from there a lot too.

Exactly. The derisory comments from Snag about n Mumsnet encompass anyone who might use Mumsnet.
Why would you do that as a business

Illpickthatup · 22/01/2024 14:17

I don't see what the problem is. If something makes you feel uncomfortable just don't buy it. No one is forcing you to. But just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it won't appeal to other people. We can't just go around banning everything because someone might be triggered.

This

LoveSandbanks · 22/01/2024 16:40

@IWroteTheOther51

i don’t have a problem with fat models. I have a problem with the way that snag depicts fat models.

pickledandpuzzled · 22/01/2024 16:40

I am their target customer- or at least I was. I adore the bright colours, am plus size so find the sizing of other tights tricky.

I don’t want to support a company that rubbishes Mumsnet, and I don’t want to support a company that normalises a dangerous practice that mainly- perhaps almost exclusively - harms women.

And I don’t like those adverts which objectify women.

Wemetatascoutcamp · 22/01/2024 16:41

I read your original post and although if i’d seen the patches prior to it I probably wouldn’t have given them a second thought, however it was clear you and others were upset by them and with good reason.

Snag aren’t standing up for an oppressed minority with these patches they’re appealing to a certain type of person and I highly doubt the majority of people purchasing these patches are actually part of the BDSM community. I personally feel really uncomfortable with the part of the statement that says “designed for people who are submissives and want to express their desires without verbalising them”. I couldn’t care less what consenting adults do to each other but don’t think its a healthy sexual relationship if you can’t discuss your desires with your partner. Something like choking needs properly discussed- something which I thought the BDSM community promoted.

Have looked at purchasing from SNAG in the past but that statement has put me off. I wouldn’t particularly expect them to pull the patches from sale but a more sensitively worded statement might have made me think differently.

gawditswindy · 22/01/2024 16:41

They're definitely a 'no publicity is bad publicity' company. I doubt very much that an intern was behind the post. They know EXACTLY what they're doing.

shearwater2 · 22/01/2024 16:43

What a bunch of misogynistic bullies.

Getting their flying monkeys out on their webpage is not a good look.

Jeevesnotwooster · 22/01/2024 16:46

The post was apparently from the CEO? So presumably she has endorsed it.

shearwater2 · 22/01/2024 16:46

Most of the people buying their tights are women and loads will be Mumsnet users. Snag are fucking numpties. Really hope the press and TV pick it up, a mainstream audience will be horrified. They will be insolvent within 12 months.

Blueeyedmale · 22/01/2024 16:47

I've reported a number of their responses to comments to Facebook as I think some of the responses are sexist.

I don't think Mr Zuckerberg will do anything but as a SA survivor myself I am absolutely sickened by their response.we live in very worrying times.

CervixSampler · 22/01/2024 16:49

That Facebook post is very high school in its maturity.
I see they've fallen for the mumsnet is transphobic nonsense 🙄

I have a 15 year old daughter who is going into a world where young girls risk believing anal sex and choking are normal, everyone does it except I'm sure not many hetero young men would be up for receiving from their girlfriends, wonder why not and if they don't comply they will be labelled fridgid.

How does this supposed safe community include them?

Any organisation who thinks it's cool to promote this so casually deserve to be called out and if you think what they are doing is ok then you are a part of this problem.

Kinks? Excellent! Let's celebrate it.
Welfare of young girls? Fuck 'em.

Well then speak to your DD about it and make sure she doesn't feel like she's has to do anything she's uncomfortable with. You're more experienced than her and her peers. Educate her about the use of porn etc and where these beliefs about anal being the norm, BDSM etc may have come from. Let her know that they are not the norm but also teach her that everyone has different preferences and it's fine for people to do as they please as long as all parties have consented.

It's up to you as a parent to ensure your child goes into the big bad world as prepared and educated as possible.

Dazedandcovidconfused · 22/01/2024 16:52

Thanks for the heads up. It’s a no from me, not just based on the patch, worse still is their response.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/01/2024 16:55

Gosh is not thought of that, thanks.

Everyone, not just parents have a duty to make sure our young people are not made to feel like prudes for not engaging in harmful sex practices.Because as much as you are right that each to their own as long as they consent etc, if our girls are getting the message from everyone else - because let's be quite clear here, I'm not the only voice in her ear - that choking isn't a biggie and anal is fun, then I'm pissing in the wind to some degree really.

Again though - thanks for demonstrating that this "safe environment " idea only goes one way

Dragonfly97 · 22/01/2024 16:56

I read the comments on that post on Facebook; can't believe so many women think this is ok. I left a comment saying as much, then blocked Snag Tights, I expected a backlash of vitriol defending them 🙄 it's depressing.
