Change of circumstances dla wait time 2022

Hi I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy with JIA , I put in a change of circumstances to dla as he gets low care but this was awarded for his mental health before his diagnosis and change in care needs . I have been told my application must sit in queue for 17 weeks before it’s looked at . I have been doing some research online about this wait time and seem to find nothing . Would love some advise on other people currently waiting on a coc .

No, it wasn’t with the DM last Thursday morning but still no news. I suspect it’s declined and the letter will come in a few days. I’m already trying to figure out the best way forward for tribunal. But thank you for asking x

no Way have you still not heard anything. Have you rang them again? I really hope it’s a good outcome for you. I can’t believe they’re taking so long.

I’m going to try again on Friday morning if nothing has been shown either way again. Kids will be at their dads so if it’s a no I can have a cross moment in peace…

Yes that’s a good idea. Mine were at school when I found out the first time and I was so upset.

I found out the day that my son got his ASD diagnosis last time. It was an emotionally exhausting day to say the least. I’m also waiting on a response to a blue badge application, that was a hard no last year as well so it’s been a very trying wait for all this right now!

Gerrataere hi , any new from DLA for your child MR ? Hope soon u will hear anything. Good luck .

Update.

Woke up to £963 paid from the DWP this morning. No conformation letter yet, but looks like the MR was a success! I’m thrilled for my son, a part of me hopes they’ve also extended the time on it but that may be a hope too far. We’ll take this win today. And his Blue Badge arrived yesterday, finally getting a recognition of his needs as it should be.

Sha2022 · 03/08/2023 10:09

Gerrataere. Congratulation.

Thank you, it’s been a heck of a wait these past 8 months! Congratulations to those who also won their MRs and best of luck to anyone else waiting on decisions x

Thats brilliant news. Finally we all have the outcome we wanted. We ordered a car the other week. It’s really needed now more than ever for myself to get my son about. So happy for you.

Ohhh that’s fantastic! Can I ask which car you’re getting? So glad your son is getting what he needs, you’re a superstar fighting for him. Being upped to HRC means I will now have enough money to fix my car and get something that’s not risking breaking down. With two autistic kids going without a car longterm is one of the biggest nightmares I could face tbh.

Yes we’re getting a vw Tiguan all space. It’s a 7 seater but when the two chairs are pushed down in the back the boot is huge, perfect for my sons wheelchair. There is up to a 6 month wait though for cars at the moment so I’m hoping I get it before Xmas for him.

Lovely car, it will hopefully meet your needs perfectly. Crossing everything you get it sooner rather than later!

We can all breathe a bit easier now, well until renewals. Next one is my other son, probably get the forms around his birthday so need to start gathering evidence as soon as school starts up.

Gerrataere · 07/08/2023 13:02

Well, looks like I’ll be considering tribunal anyway 🙃. Just had the decision makers letter which gives detail about their decisions and oh my goodness I’m furious. They said he doesn’t meet High Rate Mobility criteria because he has ‘tantrums for attention’. They described his autistic meltdowns as attention seeking tantrums, I’m disgusted to be honest. At best they’re going to get a formal complaint but I’m seriously considering just taking it all the way. They also said they’re not extending the length of the award as his care needs may change in the next year or so (runs out Dec 24). I’m not entirely sure at what point they failed to grasp the mounts of evidence showing he’s globally delayed and this hasn’t changed since he was 2….

Sha2022 · 07/08/2023 17:11

Gerrataere . Sorry to hear that’s . Same happened with me to . No mobility for my 3 year old . Nothing at all . Because they have to give my son high rate which they refused to give it . To be honest they have no care for child or parents.

Wow 2024, that is ridiculous. I’d do that anyway and try and fight for a longer time before renewing. It’s ridiculous how they make decisions etc. if anything our children’s needs are not going to get easier they will get harder.

Exactly. I didn’t expect HRM (he does meet smi but proving it in black and white right now isn’t that clear cut if that makes sense) but the dm making out his autistic meltdowns are quote ‘because his not getting his own way’ in a tantrum has made me seethe. Then adding in that his acre needs may change in a year feels like a final kick. I’m so angry right now, going to sleep on it then decide tomorrow where to take it.

Zoemelia · 14/08/2023 15:25

Am on week 20 or waiting for news on coc anyone no roughly how long waiting times are

Sha2022 · 14/08/2023 18:27

Hi . It’s about 5 weeks more .

Zoemelia · 15/08/2023 07:01

Ok thank you I won’t bother ringing then until then 🤦‍♀️

KaidensMummy0307 · 15/08/2023 08:52

@Zoemelia im currently on 25 weeks (almost 26 weeks) and am going to give them a call today. Will let you know how long they say wait times are for a coc

KaidensMummy0307 · 15/08/2023 09:16

@Zoemelia just got off the phone and they’ve advised that they have further delays and wait times have increased. She said based on current processes I probably won’t hear til last week of Aug of first week of Sept which is going to be more like 30 weeks of waiting (my coc for my sons mobility was received by them on 16th February). The waiting is awful isn’t it 🙈

Wow that is ridiculous. The length of wait time for people is a big problem. When I first did the coc for my son it was received in dec 22 and the wait time was 17 weeks. Then at 18 weeks i rang and they said 23 weeks. Then at 23 weeks they said 26 weeks. I was saying to them that it’s so bad that people are waiting half a year for a decision. And now they’re saying 30 weeks? Makes me think they do it to put people off making a coc. I remember getting the decision that they’d not changed my sons mobility to the higher rate (he gets the hrc) and I was devastated. I did a mandatory reconsideration and it took them 4 days after receiving it to change their decision. I literally made it impossible for them to refuse (you can’t argue with facts can you) I hope you hear something soon.
