Hi I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy with JIA , I put in a change of circumstances to dla as he gets low care but this was awarded for his mental health before his diagnosis and change in care needs . I have been told my application must sit in queue for 17 weeks before it’s looked at . I have been doing some research online about this wait time and seem to find nothing . Would love some advise on other people currently waiting on a coc .

Hi, I'm awaiting a coc and it will be 17 weeks on Monday, my renewal is due on 7th July and I found out recently I need to submit that (was told originally the coc would count as a renewal) I'm basically putting the same info into the renewal as the coc except I'm updating the mobility aspect with the renewal also.
I don't understand why a coc would just sit there for 17 weeks untouched, I've also searched online and did see this on Wales Online-
Wait times for normal rules DLA reassessment claims are currently 25 weeks 'end to end' from registration to a decision and 17 weeks from the AP referral to the decision, as of January 2022. These are also higher than the same period a year ago (21 weeks and 15 weeks respectively in January 2021).

I also get lrc for my son who is 11 and has Tourettes syndrome. His care needs have increased since his first award 2 years ago. Ive had to change jobs and drop my hrs to meet his needs.

So frustrating isn't it 😤

Mumabear239 · 05/06/2022 20:20

It is frustrating, I just don’t understand how they can keep it just sitting there . I received a letter on 18th May apologising for the wait that they will get a decision as soon as possible , y not just send letter saying it’s taking this long will receive decision by this time at least I would know for a time line for definite .

How long have you been waiting so far?

Isaidnoalready · 05/06/2022 20:58

It shouldn't be just sitting there for 17 weeks I think 17 weeks is the average waiting time currently which is ridiculously long

Mumabear239 · 05/06/2022 21:43

I am currently hitting 9 weeks from scan date . I am Going to call tomorrow for an update just to see where there at and what date their dealing with .

Mumabear239 · 06/06/2022 16:45

I’m 12 weeks from scan date new DLA claim for my daughter with mental health issues was told over a week ago it’s with DM and then yesterday had a letter asking for more information so sent loads off , really frustrating that my daughter has to wait now as the money would really help

Mumabear239 · 16/06/2022 21:39

@1977s it is an awful wait , I am
cur on my 10 week out of 18 week wait for a change of circumstances. I have read on the other dla wait times thread that there is around a 12 week wait for a new claim . Hope all goes well for you and your daughter 🙂

Mumabear239Thankyou, it’s been a very difficult 2 years unable to say fully as battling courts , but my children are my everything and this waiting is so stressful

Hi all! My daughter is 3 and has been diagnosed with JIA, tbh I didn’t know if she would be entitled to dla but was told by her nursery that she should as she now doesn’t walk, they received our dla forms on the 7th May, on the 11th sent out a letter saying they now had it and since then heard nothing, but now have seen groups on here that people from March are still waiting to hear back?! Wow ridiculously long!, just wondering are those people reclaiming or is it a new claim? And do they back date in one go or split it across the months.. thanks in advance

Mumabear239 · 25/06/2022 10:51

@Uz91 I would definitely apply for your daughter as my son has JIA and on entracept injection at home and finds it hard to walk and move around freely.
The wait times for new claim are up to 12 weeks but am seeing peoples posts from end of April been awarded new claim .
change of circumstances are a 20 weeks wait it’s just awful wait times . There are other threads on here about dla wait times and mostly new claims and also a Facebook page .
mumsnet-: new dla wait times part 2
facebook-: dla for children support and advice .
goodluck with your claim .

@Mumabear239 appreciate your response, JIA is horrible isn’t it, my daughter is on methotrexate, very new to dla so just hoping she is awarded something

Mumabear239 · 25/06/2022 11:46

@Uz91 the wait is the worst my sons diagnosis was messed around for almost 3 years said he had a growth plate inflammation and just fobbed him off he got lrc back in 2021 but that was for more his mental health than the pain and lack of movement in his legs but I bugged the doctors got a MRI done and instantly was put on steroids for 3 days through a cannula then straight on to a biological injection my son has damage to his spine and muscles due to them delaying his diagnosis . Am hoping for at least MRC and LRM . It’s just it’s usually older people that gets arthritis I could t imagine having that pain and stiffness at a very young age . X

Hey sorry for not getting back, just had a busy weekend with poorly kids, and no not heard anything yet! Getting little anxious now 😶

lolil · 27/06/2022 12:56

DH waited almost a year, I know it's maybe different wait times with it being DLA and not PIP but there is a massive backlog all round. Sorry. I hope it's good news when you get it.

Mumabear239 · 29/06/2022 19:04

Anyone heard from coc ? Saw post someone awarded from 24th March and new claims 24th April . Xxx

OP posts:
Mumabear239 · 01/07/2022 08:25

@lolil I’ve saw random awards from new claims end of April renewal about the same and coc saw people from March be awarded even though there’s people from feb still waiting good luck everyone and hope not long now

Uz91 · 01/08/2022 00:36

@Mumabear239 hey x not sure if you remember me but I’m the one who’s daughter has JIA? I heard back last week my daughter has been awarded MRC no mobility, I really thought due to her not being able to walk she would have been awarded.. did you hear back? X

Lianney84 · 05/08/2022 14:53

Hi ladies. New to here been reading the thread and can see I've got a very long wait ahead off us.
My sons needs have changed endlessly and now goes to a special needs school with his echp plan. He gets transport also with a PA back and to school.
I put in coc and was scanned 27th June my son has no diagnosis yet but being assessed for ASD ADHD and PDA we've got out next peads appointment next week hoping i get what I've been wanting for 4 years off fighting his diagnosis
He's under audiology dietitian eye clinic therapy clinic and cams mental health and sleep specialist He's almost 8 years old now. ATM he gets lower mrc and Lrm but like I say his needs have changed endlessly . Can't believe I've read it takes 20 + on coc.

Angeldust12 · 06/10/2022 12:58

I applied for my daughter dla in June it was scanned 15th June and recieve back payment whilst on holiday in September so took 4 months. I have just done a change of circumstances for my son so wondering how long that will take.

ASDmummy2019 · 07/10/2022 19:48

@Tourettesmuma hey just wondering if you heard back from your coc, if so what was your wait? I’m in a similar situation to you as when we hear back from our coc it’ll be time for renewal, did you still have to do yours? Thank you

Ssabb90 · 24/10/2022 10:31

Hi my scan date is 8th of July 22 for a COC. They told me Friday that they are working from 6th of June claims for COC if that helps anyone so I’m still about 4 weeks away which will make my wait longer than 17 weeks as I am already on week 15 x

Mkd1322 · 26/10/2022 10:10

@Ssabb90 im just over waiting 19weeks my scan date was the 13th of june. Its driving me insane waiting now. Guessing i still have a few weeks to go yet if they on the 6th of june. Our renewal is next year aswel. X
