Hi I am a single mother of a 9 year old boy with JIA , I put in a change of circumstances to dla as he gets low care but this was awarded for his mental health before his diagnosis and change in care needs . I have been told my application must sit in queue for 17 weeks before it’s looked at . I have been doing some research online about this wait time and seem to find nothing . Would love some advise on other people currently waiting on a coc .

DWP decision maker told me maybe even he won’t going to wait for nursery latter and make decisions. Is that’s bad or good ? I am so nervous maybe I won’t good enough on phone 📞 😞

I have heard that they call for pip, but I suppose that it’s good that they’ve called as the decision maker is trying to understand more about your child’s needs. It’s always better when you can talk to them and give them a proper insight into what you have struggles with. So try and stay positive with it and hopefully you’ll get the outcome you want. Also with him saying he might not even need the letter, then I’d say that sounds good too as he may of gotten enough information that he needed to award what your asking for.

Hi and Thankyou. I read a bit back on the thread and someone said that they can call you so don’t be alarmed by that. They cannot argue with facts. And if they don’t go in your favour get the facts on paper to them so they can’t refuse you. That’s what I did, made it impossible for them to refuse it for my son. Good luck and keep us updated.

I haven’t had an answer yet but the fact that most people hear within a week is speaking volumes to me unfortunately. I’ll ring them today or tomorrow and hopefully I can get to the bottom of it.

Go to the children’s information section of UC and change that your child in now getting HRC. If DLA have backed it to a certain date, put a note in your journal to ask them to backdate the difference to that date.

Sha2022 · 20/07/2023 08:30

Hi . Where is everyone gone ? No one posted anything yet .

Beckyc87x · 20/07/2023 16:38

Did you end up ringing them to see where they were at with your mr? I hope if you did it was good news.

Beckyc87x · 20/07/2023 16:43

Hello, I’m not really sure about the uc to be honest. I get extra money for my son but he’s been on hrc since I was transferred to uc so I’m not sure what I would have gotten if he was on a lower care component of dla. I’ve always gotten the hrc for him since he was around 6 years old. But if definitely write in your journal and ask them about it.

I did, not with the dm yet. Probably will know by next week or the start of the following. I was considering doing a sleep diary but I think it’s too little too late now.

It’s quickly been put to the back of my mind anyway, I had a surprise phone call today - my other son went to panel (I had no idea it was happening) and diagnosed with ASD. I’d been told it would be at least another year before I’d hear so reeling a bit now. I was expecting a bit of a fight, he presents more as Asperger’s (as it used to be called obviously) and didn’t think he would meet the criteria. He has his last day tomorrow so have to prepare a kid friendly way of explaining things to him after.

Why is it taking so long. I suppose it just depends on who’s desk it gets put on and how quick they work doesn’t it. Terrible really. My uncle was diagnosed with high functioning autism when he turned 50. It can take ages for a diagnosis can’t it.

No idea but they can take an extra month or two as long as they come to the right decision this time. That’s the worry though, that theyd want more info from his SENCO who 1. Is about to go on holiday and 2. Will be on mat leave from September. But they’ve been given more than enough information as far as I’m concerned.

Both my children had to wait 3 years from me raising my concerns. My eldest was initially dropped from an ASD diagnosis due to ‘holding eye contact’. It was this time last year I was writing out his appeal, amazing what a year can do.

Their father should have been diagnosed years ago as well. But his mother is in total denial about him having it (don’t get me started about the rest of the family and their undiagnosed autism traits 🤣).

Sha2022 · 20/07/2023 17:42

Thanks everyone . Yes I have spoken with uc.about my son getting hCR . Before he was on middle care rate . Yes my son will be going to get high allows for disability benefits to with uc . It’s about gone up . 3 hundred pound . Which is I am happy 😃. And will get all backdate last 9 months.

Sha2022 · 20/07/2023 17:48

If anyone in futures want to find out if your child get high DLA care rate . Then uc will pay per month 456. Not 146. Which is lower rate for disability benefits. Everyone make sure u get all your money backdate . I am surprised I use to get for my son only 146 . Now totally will get 456 per month. Which is good 😌.

I get £456 for my son. So I get the right one. I’m glad you got it backdated. That’s brilliant.
