Sole mare ..magari.DH e in arrivo oggi da Italia and he said shall I wear a jacket or put it in the valigia ??? I have heard that Puglia is lovely but never been ( strange I know but sud Italia is a bit foreign to me )
Franca going back to Italy your dcs will adapt back easily don't worry . My sister moved 250miles when hers were 4,6,8 and they settled in fine. Sister made a big thing of keeping in touch with friends from old town but they have only kept in touch with a few now..childrens choice.

francagoestohollywood · 10/07/2007 11:05

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 10:49

ring the dentist! It's dreadful, but I've learnt from experience never to neglect the first sign of toothache

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 10:49

I think I might be the only mntter who's never read harry potter

mediterRONeo · 11/07/2007 11:04

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 14:29

Tis a lovely day here as well (pity that I wasted it on mn, instead of doing translation or sit in the garden to get a tan...)

Rosa · 11/07/2007 14:31

Print a page of translation and go and sit in the garden and do it ! I am sending pics to zia of dd on the beach then I am out to do Grandmas weeding.... Has to be done and she is not up to all the bending. DH cutting grass so we are in favour today !

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 14:33

printer is broken. Everything is breaking down. The house is collapsing and getting dirtier and I'm n MN !

Ellbell · 11/07/2007 16:40

Ciao... I am back...! I finished writing my paper at ... wait for it... 5.00 a.m., had two hours' sleep and then went to the conference. It didn't help that at about 2.00 a.m. I decided I didn't like the way it was going and rewrote the second half. Anyway, it went OK in the end, but we had a very small audience, which was a shame. Had people staying with me on Monday night and graduation ceremonies yesterday, so didn't really catch up till last night, when I fell asleep in the bath at 10.00, and had to drag myself out to go to bed once the water had gone cold. Yuk!

See you all again soon. I am at work now, but have just emerged from a 3.5 hour meeting, so am recovering with a bit of MN!

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 16:45

ciao Ellbell! I'm glad the conference went well... I do the same, I always have a bath at night (when everyone's asleep and a copy of the guardian magazine) and risk to drawn because I tend to fall asleep.
Majorly worried at the mo. I think dh has just resigned

mediterRONeo · 11/07/2007 19:21

does that mean you are jobless? selling the house? moving to italy following your dream?

I like Cornelius Caramell.
Well, dh and I have been talking for a while, sort of deciding that going back to Italy would be the best for our family. The idea was to wait until he was offered a proper job at a University, which, lets face it, will probably never happen. But he's now received a big research grant + another bursary at an Italian University, I believe. And today he's told the head of school that he'll work until xmas. I'm not sure I'm entirely happy, as he is underestimating the cost of living in Italy. I hate change and I am scared.

mediterRONeo · 11/07/2007 20:50

I hate change too....dh is moving to the States for work for 8 weeks, i am really depressed about it.
franca did you know he was going to resign?

francagoestohollywood · 11/07/2007 21:11

Well, I thought we hadn't talked this through thouroughly. One part of me thinks it's going to be allright, the other is full of doubts. Here, we are leading a quite "sheltered" life (if not slightly boring). Dh reckons that he will not be able to find a permanent job in Italy if he is not actually there. I also feel guilty, I think he's going to hate the mondo universitario italiano.
med, are you going to be allright? Is anyone coming to give you a hand while he is away? Gosh, 8 weeks sounds like a long time

OMG Franca, that's a bit all rolled into one, isn't it?

How long is the research grant for in Italy? And where is it? Is it a place where he has contacts? I do know people who've got jobs in Italy despite working in the UK, but it's difficult and it has tended to be people who already have a barone looking out for them over there. But obviously I only know about people working in italianistica.

You have said piu' volte that you'd like to be back in Italy, you know... But I can understand the uncertainty and the fear of the uncertainty.
