Cali

[determined to speak English now]

Friuli-Venezia-Giuli area, then we parted company and I worked a bit in the Emilia-Romagna and made my own friends, who taught me to eat yummy parmigiano and prosciutto every day [sigh]

Used to visit them often before I emigrated to the other side of the world.

And you??

I never was much good at writing Italian and now I can't do it at all! As will be obvious from my posts...

Yes, I miss being able to hop on a plane to Bologna whenever I need sunshine and good conversation and lovely food.

ciao you two on the other side of the world . You know ,when we flew to san francisco on Easter I finally realized how far it is (or how far we are from it)...
wellie, your Italian is ottimo btw. can you get hold of some Italian books? I used to read a lot in English before moving to the UK (nothing fancy, just thrillers etc) and it helps a bit to mantenere la lingua. I'll think of some easy, not boring titles to suggest.
Luckily it's easy to find Italian food in English supermarkets (and I usually smug salame and parmigiano), but I really miss carciofo, which is my fav vegetable!

PippiLangstrump · 04/07/2007 13:17

welliemum your italian is very very good. My dad is in udine, so I go there often.

I miss fiori di zucca a lot (hmmm)...

we had to put her back on the cot, so that she cannot run away and was slightly better. we have made up now and all my friend told me everybody loses it once in a while.

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 14:20

pippi, dd is 3 and she's still in her cot

Rosa · 04/07/2007 20:33

francagoestohollywood · 04/07/2007 21:01

have a great shopping day tomorrow rosa

ilsi · 05/07/2007 09:56

Hi everyone

Yeh shopping!!! Rosa I'd love to come with you, my dh's credit card stays in his wallet. I can't use it as it's in his name and the stores refuse to let me sign, even in the ipercoop.

Which shops are you heading for? My fav is Primark cheap and cheerful. They do some great kiddy's wear. I like Zara too, do they have one near you? Sounds like the usual British summer.

Wellie mum Agree with the parma ham bit hits the spot everytime. Can you not find the authentic stuff in the real Italian deli.

Did any of you see the Diana tribute concert? Was it on tv? Who was there? I got a 5 second run down on Italia Uno and that was about it. There's nothing on tv these days except reruns and more reruns.

I read that someone is making icing. I can give you some tips on how to really mess it up.

Rosa · 05/07/2007 14:19

when I was working I had my own card etc but now am not he had no option but to get me one on his account !!
gave up on the shopping it is teaming down here went to TK Maxx and got a birthday present and that was it before soft gym /tumble tots which dd loved. No Primark or Zara here ( no Zara in Venice either )
Watched the Diana concert and thought it was good .Take That, Elton John , Joss Stone, Some ballet in there as well. Duran Duran,Brian Ferry,Oh loads more. They had some nice tributes in there as well, and trips down memory lane. Even dd had a bop to it which was funny to watch !
Wonder how Franca is getting on at the farm ?????

francagoestohollywood · 05/07/2007 15:10

Hi, it was good, but extremely wet. Got to go pick dd up from nursery now, will be back later with a full report

francagoestohollywood · 05/07/2007 23:42

Ilsi, how's the tooth btw?

welliemum · 06/07/2007 02:16

ciao a tutte

You are all very kind

Franca, any book suggestions would be great!

Mi piaccono i carciofi, but I agree with Rosa - it's a lot of leaves for a tiny taste!

There's a real Italian shop in Wellington which is lovely, but awkward to get to from where we live. However, we're planning a trip there to stock up! Will get formaggio, prosciutto, salame, biscotti, te' alla pesca, and many other things...

Mmmm, you make it sound so delicious Califrau! . Is Wisconsin really the cheese state? I had no idea!

The "parmesan" they make here isn't bad and does slightly resemble the real thing for cooking, but you wouldn't want to eat it fresh on its own which is what I love.

I even have one of those little pointy parmigiano knives in my kitchen drawer... [sigh]
