They do sound interesting. Roth is all about death and sex. He writes really well about sex I think. Not sure what to read next....will rain soon I think.

PippiLangstrump · 02/07/2007 12:15

here I am again, on my lunch break - cannot wait to have internet again... soon I hope.

Anyway, no no news yet, I have a feeling this month though... you'll be the first to know

Med, l'isola di arturo, I loved it! read ages ago twice! I did ate so much mozzarella di bufalal as well I was sick of it at the end! My DH thinks it's tasteless (please)!!

I am reading Jane Eire at the mo (never read it before ).

Ilsi unsalted bread TEH BEST! Have you tried the one from PG? I always bring back two massive loaves, DH like this one!

francagoestohollywood · 02/07/2007 13:56

Ciao!
It's raining again here . Ds's party is this saturday, what am I going to do if it rains? lock them all up in the bathroom??
I think I only read Portnoys' Complaint, a few years ago. I'm not really sure how much I liked it. As roths go, my favourite has to be joseph roth (all his books can be found in the adelphi edizioni), la cripta dei cappuccini, fuga senza fine, la marcia radetzki (sp?) etc. Bello jane Eyre e anche l'isola di arturo.
I watched the devil wears prada the other night. I enjoyed it, but felt some mild attacco d'ansia, because my boss was relentless like Miranda Prestley. (and she was just like that: I had a piece of paper yesterday, did you find it? I want a flight at 4 o'clock. there's no fliht at that time of the day, I want it etc etc etc). I might go join dd who's watching peppa pig now

Rosa · 02/07/2007 14:15

Franca its not raining in Cornwall. Took dd to beach today in giacca vento and wellingtons. She loved it and ate sabbia for the first time. Hope that the sun comes out for dd birthday how old will she be ?? Are you making icing again ? read on another thread that you made it for the first time .
Pippi keeping fingers crossed for a positive and Med unsalted bread...Nah can cope with butter ( just) but not the bread . Loved Piadina and is it Crescia (Sp???) from Gubbio area though with crudo and pecorino in it ..Yum.

francagoestohollywood · 02/07/2007 14:31

buona piadina con la crescia yummie!
You very brave woman going to the beach rosa , what was the wind like? (can't cope with the wind at all). I was so looking forward to taking the children to the beach this summer... but I'm still hopeful, I want a sunny july (which is your closest beach if you don't mind me asking? I want to go to cornwall for a long weekend, perhaps in september)
Ds is going to be 5 on wednesday. Not sure if I'll be making any icing... maybe chocolate ganache!

francagoestohollywood · 02/07/2007 14:32

I still remember visitng the scilly islands when I was 14, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Rosa · 02/07/2007 14:42

It was windy. DD was a bit unsure going over the carpark ( she nearly took off !!!)but as soon as we got down onto the beach she was fine.
beaches we go to are : Porthtowan, Perranporth, St Ives, But some are very stony at the moment so we will have to see.
I am hoping for some sun well at least warmer days as I am washing dds colder clothes like mad.
Yum to the choccy cake...I made a telletubbie cake for dd this year ..It was fun and worth the effort as she recognised it!

francagoestohollywood · 02/07/2007 19:10

Sounds like your dd is having a lovely time over here, rosa .
I'm not sure I'll be able to make anything like a teletubby cake, sometimes I doubt I have the cake gene in my dna. How do you make the icing look so smooth by the way? Is there a special strumento I can use?

Rosa... Sorry, I missed the fact that you are in C'wall. Have you been to Hayle beach? It's very long and exposed, so not too good in the wind. But if you drive up past the church (there are two, the one on the far side of the river from the main road through the town) and keep going till you run out of road (!), you can park at the top of the dunes (car park - pay on exit) and walk down, and there it's a bit more sheltered and if the weather is good there are pools which are great for paddling, filling buckets with water, etc.

Franca, come va il dente? L'orecchio va meglio - finalmente!

Califrau... sorry to hear about your friend's dad.

welliemum · 03/07/2007 04:28

Ciao tutte... do you mind if I gatecrash your thread?

Since moving to NZ I've completely forgotten how to speak Italian as I have no-one to talk to. I'm terrified that one day I will want to chat to someone in Italian and just stand there opening and closing my mouth like a fish.

Can anyone suggest a good website with news or just fun stuff that I can read to get me thinking in Italian again?

Not as good as having someone to speak to, but it would be a start I think.

Any ideas?

welliemum · 03/07/2007 04:38

oops, I meant ciao a tutte

And I guess you're all asleep now!

ilsi · 03/07/2007 09:07

Gosh you all chat loads. I'm not able to follow it all as my pc's at work and I'm not there everyday. How are you all? I'm ok,
tomorrow I'm having my wisdom tooth out. I was really cool about it but having had so many people tell me not to worry it'll be all right has actually now got me worrying. Am I being a sissy? I've been told I won't be able to eat much for a day or two but that no probs if it get me loosing a few pounds. What are you all upto?

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2007 09:27

Ciao a tutte
Ellbell: glad to see you back on MN! Il dente is slowly healing, much better thanks! Glad to hear you are on the mend too.

Ilsi: I had all 4 my wisdom teeth taken out on general anesthetic when I was 20. I was absolutely fine, apart from resembling a scoiattolo for the first two days, other than that no pain whatsoever. BUT: I had another big tooth extracted last month (the tooth had been extremely dodgy for more than 5 yrs), actually the one next to wisdom tooth. I must admit it was quite a shocking experience. Obviously you don't "feel" pain while they do it, but then noise and the pulling is quite disturbing. I then had a dry socket and it was quite painful!. Hope I didn't scare you too much, but I can promise you that you won't feel any pain during the operation, just be prepared about the pulling

Welliemum: benvenuta! I don't know why I don't really go on Italian website, apart from the newspapers.
Try www.corriere.it/ or www.repubblica.it/. You can also watch Italian tv programmes from the pc on www.raiclicktv.it/raiclickpc/secure/homePage.srv Where are you in NZ?

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2007 09:29

welliemum, you can also listen to the radio from your pc, www.rai.it/dl/portal/radio.html
Califrau , glad I could help

Rosa · 03/07/2007 14:49

Oh thanks Ellbell I haven't been to Hayle in years its another one to remember . Glad to see you popping in again. Hello welliemum hows life in NZ ? Hope its warmer than here. Had to go to buy a few more long sleeve tops for dd I have washed the ones we had twice and not been here a week yet !
Ilsi sympathy for your teeth. I had wisdom out but under a general don't think I could cope with a local.
Franca as rgards the icing there are 2 types you can make , Butter icing which generally looks more 'rough' . Dip knife in hot water to smooth over. Or buy ready made royal icing and if you want colour it. You can roll it out to cover the cake . I find that for simple cakes I use Royal but use Butter for more fiddly ones I find it hides mistakes better

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2007 15:29

rosa thanks for the advice. I haven't decided yet whether to make 1 or possibly 2 chocolate cake with chocolate ganache and lamponi on top or cupcakes....

Rosa · 03/07/2007 15:37

Oh lamponi there was a tub in our fridge but they vanished.. I am sure it will be fab whatever you do an appreciated by the dc and friends. and the sun WILL shine

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2007 15:43

I hope so rosa!! Lots of lovelyt English lamponi on sale at the moment (I have a pianta in the garden, but the birds have eaten them all)

PippiLangstrump · 03/07/2007 19:33

Ciao a tutte once again. I am touching base again. the weather is crap, isn't it??? Is thundering in here big time. I've had enough!!!

Yesterday I lost it with DD (over the usual not wanting to go to bed etc etc - I bet you are all bored about it) and I feel so crap and guilty - the worst mamma in the world - she was so frightened and I made it so much worse.

I know I am not the only one and like my friends put it 'it will only get worse' but still if I can lose it with a 2yo what am I going to do with a teenager?

Hei EllBell!!

Lamponi lovely Franca. LOL at boss like Miranda...

I've got to go now, I am still at work, I was supposed to go out with a friend who stood me up because his little girl wasn't well... so I am going to M&S to get some lovely but quick food for DH and myself.

ciao a domani if I have a minute - I am supposed to train my boss... help!

francagoestohollywood · 03/07/2007 21:52

Pippi, , I have many tales about my former boss...

sorry to hear that bedtime is still such hardwork. you also have to take into consideration that she's been on holiday and now she's in a new house, so it can be a bit harder for her. BUT DON'T FEEL GUILtY. I'M SURE YOU DIDN'T REALLY LOSE IT. ups!!

welliemum · 04/07/2007 00:52

Ciao a tutte

Grazie tanto for all the ideas!

Vivo on a smallholding vicino a Wellington. Fa molto freddo oggi, ancora piu freddo dell'estate inglese

and now I'm going to speak English before I embarrass myself any more - I really have forgotten everything!

NZ is lovely but I miss my Italian friends and parmigiano reggiano which is like gold dust here. They make an imitation but it's not the same .

Thanks again all!

In Italia, califrog!

Avevo un ragazzo americano (mollllllti anni fa) che se ne andato a lavorare in Italia.

I suoi amici non parlavano l'inglese, cosi' dovevo imparare l'italiano subito.

Adesso non me ne recordo niente

welliemum · 04/07/2007 01:08
