buonasera!

I gave up on butter cream or any type of icing in the summer months long ago, everything always ended up a soggy mess.
In fact, any type of cake that can't be chilled is a real no-no for me. DD's a July babe and her (so far only) birthday cake was bought from the gelateria last year. Also saved me having to put the oven on and swelter even more. Methinks she's going to get ice cream cakes every year.... .

francagoestohollywood · 25/06/2007 16:58

Ok, have more time now:
ilsi, lol is for laugh out loud. How's your ds feeling?
pippi: again at your holiday. Sooooo, are you pregnant then [hopeful emoticon]? . And happy birthday! (yes, I love gemini, gemini is my opposite sign, I'm sagittarius... apparently we are meant to get along nicely )
Dh's hometown is famous for its chantilly, small bigne' with lovely whipped cream, but they stop making them from may to september because of the heat.
Rosa, sorry to hear about your redundancy.

Rosa · 25/06/2007 19:44

Thanks Franca it was an agreed one to be honest I had a job but the distance was to far to go and there were a few HR complications in my favour so we called it quits !
I have almost finished packing but I think I have a summer cold coming ...oh nooo so am eating Vit C like mad.

francagoestohollywood · 25/06/2007 21:13

Glad to hear you are not too stressed about it. Take vit c, and zinc !

PippiLangstrump · 26/06/2007 14:21

Rosa you are right I am as happy as I sound (DH will probably disagree though as he calls me 'grumpy-grump )!

The house is a mess inside and the commute to work is too long, but these are things that I will resolve soon..ish. I am actively thinking of a career change anyway so this is the right time to start planning. Also I am upset as still no internet, but I guess it might be a good thing if I want another baby !!! nothing yet franca, will keep you updated though. when are you off?

I am very very upset about the weather though. DD is a july baby too but in this country it won't matter too much... as my tan is fading already.

chantilly is lovely...

jelous of rosa'a redundancy at the mo.

francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2007 10:59

rosa must be on her way to cornwall!
pippi, any news yet?

mediterraneo · 27/06/2007 15:28

BUONGIORNO!!!!! SoNO tornataaaaaa! Quante facce nuove! Appena tornata da Ravello, abbronzata e ingrassata. 46 degress in the south 2 days ago, incredible heat, never felt anything like it. Still managed to stuff my face with mozzarella di buffala. Glad to be back home full of the joys of being back in London. E allora Pippi sei incinta? Noi non stiamo ancora provando, stiamo cosi bene noi 3 insieme! Forse in autunno. I feel so ambivalent about it these days... Bought some novels by Giorgio Bassani e L'isola di Arturo di Morante.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2007 17:07

Bentornata!!! at Ravello... it's freezing here and I have to fight the urge to turn the heat on.
I'm glad you had a lovely, relaxing time. L'isola di Arturo is bellissimo, I read it when I was 16... 20 years ago (argh!).

mediterraneo · 27/06/2007 19:56

Raining here. After so much heat I am oddily enjoying the rain.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2007 22:32

so what did you do in Ravello

francagoestohollywood · 27/06/2007 22:32

?

mediterraneo · 28/06/2007 09:19

Ciao Franca tutto bene? Ho mangiato tante mozzarelle di bufala e nuotato, nuotato, nuotato. Ero ospite di un'amica che cucina benissimo. Grumpy about the weather here, already have a cold! We are thinking of going to Puglia or Calabria next summer (yes, already planning it) - do you know any nice places there? Shall we have an Italian meet up in London at some point?

francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2007 11:20

Ciao Med, I've been a bit glum, but looking forward to our holidays! We are leaving on the 24th of July, we'll stay a few days in Brittany at some friends and then we'll drive to Italy. We are going to Tuscany with various friends for 2 weeks. I'm planning to eat lots of prosciutto toscano with pane senza sale. mmmm. at you staying with a brava cuoca. My sister in law is a fantastic cook (she has a great "pedigree", her dad is from Naples and mum is from Taranto), I'm looking forward to them having children so that we can go on holiday together and legarla ai fornelli .
I've never been on holiday in Calabria , just drove through on my way to Sicily. I've been to Otranto once, which is gorgeous, visited Lecce and Gallipoli (fantastic beaches around there), amazing (but obviously go before the 10th of July). I'm going to miss mare vero in Tuscany this summer, but hopefully if it's not too hot we can do a bit of sighseeing in Pisa, San Gemignano etc...
I'd love to meet, and I'd love to go to London (keep saying that). How about September? It's usually still quite mild. I haven't been to tate modern yet !!!

ilsi · 28/06/2007 14:00

Hi Everyone

My ds did get the tummy bug but the party went ok. I'm back at work after my day in Genova. We took my ds & dd to the acquarium. We did the tour in record time as after the 1st 2nd and 3rd tanks of fishes there were more ....tanks of fishes! They got a bit bored after that. They enjoyed the penguins and the dolphins were magic.

Franca I'm still getting used to the bread without salt thing after all these years but I agree with the prosciutto bit. I even smother my slices in mayo or salad cream much to the horror of my in laws.

francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2007 14:13

Lol Ilsi, Sunday was another rainy day, and ds insisted on going back to Plymouth's acquarium, for the second time in a few months. The children loved it, but I wanted to jump in the sharks pool, just to liven up the morning a bit .

mediterraneo · 28/06/2007 17:31

More showers for the weekend. I find acquariums a bit boring I must say, will take ds when he is older I guess. When is the nice weather coming?

OP posts:
Rosa · 28/06/2007 18:11

Rosa is in England.....
Tutto ok madonna che freddo dd e gia in jeans e felpa !
Viaggio lungo ma dd e stata bravvvvissssiiima. Gparents are so happy to see her and she just loves nonnas garden.
Welcome back Med glad you had such a good time. Ilsi hope you are not too hot and the heat has broken . DH says it thundered in Venice yesterday glad we got out in time !!
Franca we are neighbours di contea
I was given the dark side of Italy to read and LOL at the first page when they described Italian 'sex' words as keys, a broom,a saw and I can't remember the other.
WIll be back to chat when can but computer is in a non dd friendly room.

francagoestohollywood · 28/06/2007 19:59

Ciao rosa, glad that the viaggio went well and dd's been bravissima. I bet the nonni are spoiling her already!
Med, the aquarium... the first time I found it quite interesting, actually Plymouth's aquarium is indeed very nice, the second a bit less, this time deeply boring !

mediterraneo · 29/06/2007 09:31

listening to ricky gervais on radio 4, the epitome of englishness, very dry sense of humour. glad to be back in the uk, don't even mind the relentless rain. as long as things work themselves out in a week. tate modern would be great for a mumsnet italy meet up. PIPPPIIIII???? WHERE ARE YOU?

OP posts:
mediterraneo · 29/06/2007 09:32

I guess I find aquariums a touch depressing. They should be at the bottom of the sea, surely? And feel the same about zoos.....it ain't right.

OP posts:
francagoestohollywood · 29/06/2007 09:41

yes, I agree, but somehow all that water makes it less depressing than the zoo, iykwim...
PIPPI doesn't have an internet connection in the new home yet, I'd suspect, unless she's weaning herself from MN... but she can't leave us like this !

mediterraneo · 29/06/2007 19:12

PIPPPIIIII, pull yourself together and get connected.
