That's better

I don't know what to do about my driving lessons.

I found an instructor i thought was good, but he's really unpredictable about showing up. Almost every 2 hour lesson i've booked with him he's cancelled at the last minute. I often have 2 weeks between lessons - he never gives me notice. He's a good teacher, but there's a little too much hand holding and it gives me the creeps.

I'm at the end of a block of lessons with him and was due to pay for the next lot, but instead i've not called him and not sure what to do. Don't want to give up again - as this is my second attempt and i dont' feel like i'm moving forward at all.

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:44

Hi no not yet but he said he will ask if i can go on it.
It is a shame my parents are insured with SAGA cos they would take me out.

Boco -That doesn't sound very professional of him,if you can't relax and enjoy your lessons it is a shame.
Try changing instructors ,you may see a difference.

BOCO

get rid of the pervy instructor, wtf is he doing holding your hand, they r supposed to be on the wheel.

He is not a good instructor, and should give you warning. There are lots out there who are good, and enjoy their jobs.

pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:50

strangely enough it won't cost as much to put you onthe insurance as you think, as being a learner the insurance take into account you have an experienced driver sitting by you.

I didn't know this, so never insured my car as a learner, or i didn't even think too. Lucky enough i bought the carmonday and passes on the wednesday lol.

To add you on the insurance as a named driver when you pas, will prob cost a bit more then too. Yet all the insurance companies seem to differ wildly in costs.

My dad put me on his as a learner and it didnt cost anything, which i thought was rather risky and odd.

Boco · 21/08/2007 22:59

Hmm yes, i'm confused about the hand holding. I'm a totally terrified learner - and he does a lot of pulling over to say 'how did you find that' etc, and always says 'come 'ere you!' and grasps my hand and gives it a squeeze. I think of myself as fairly assertive and able to handle most situations, but i'm already a wibbling lunatic behind a wheel, and find it all just a bit embarrassing. Must say i could do without it.

pirategirl · 21/08/2007 23:01

he may indeed mean wel, in a weird way but that not really helping you be assertive, its rather, playing on your insecurity.

You need someone who encourages your best efforts, and someone who you respect.

Boco · 21/08/2007 23:04

You're right. And it makes me more edgy than i already am, because it's so cringey.

Has anyone ever tried an intensive course. I'm wondering if after all these lessons it'd work better for me. A local man does a weeks intensive course for £450 and you take your test on the friday.

pirategirl · 22/08/2007 19:08

I have never really heard much positive about the intensive ones.

How many hours have oyu had, and have they alll been with the weird man?

queenrollo · 22/08/2007 20:04

i looked into intensive course and they were from one to two weeks depending on your current level of driving experience.
the company i approached were quite flexible though..they suggested i do three weeks, but just morning blocks (because ds was much smaller then, he said it was quite tiring and so all day would be a bit much)

have a look around and see what companies will offer you....

MrsSlowLearner · 23/08/2007 20:21

Apparently my driving this morning was bordering on aggressiveaccording to my instructor.I felt very calm and just laughed every time he commented.

Nutcracker-Do you have another lesson tomorrow?

Hello - just checking in to see how you are all doing with your lessons.

ProjectIcarus · 28/08/2007 22:57

test tomorrow.

that is test again tomorrow

Boco · 28/08/2007 22:59

Oh Love angel i've tried men and women.

(That's not a sentence you ever think you'll write.)

The man was a hand holder and totally unreliable, but the woman was a psychotic bullying cowface. It's all swings and roundabouts really.

Boco · 28/08/2007 23:01

Good luck projecticarus!

I always read your name wrong and think you're a dinosaur called projectisaurus. [muses]

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 28/08/2007 23:01

Boco - roundabouts, yes but where do swings fit in?

Boco · 28/08/2007 23:05

Well, mostly just mood-swings. I did a 3 point turn - hooray [elation] Instructor wants to hold my hand again [embarrassed / repulsed] I stalled at the traffic lights [mortification] The lesson is over [relief]

That kind of thing.

margosbeenplayingwithmynoonoo · 28/08/2007 23:14

My mind seem to be in the gutter, the only link to driving and swings was car keys and swingers parties. I've only seen it on Life on Mars, no real life "encounters" m'lud
