how did it go?

Beauregard · 17/08/2007 19:47

Nutty how did you get on?

pirategirl · 17/08/2007 21:55

aha here tis

nutcracker · 17/08/2007 21:59

Ta PG

Hang on, will copy and paste from my other thread.

nutcracker · 17/08/2007 22:00

I'm back, and I didn't crash

It was good, very nerve wracking but good and my instructor is nice.

She drove me round to a quiet road and we sat for about half an hour whilst she showed me every possible thing in the car and then I drove the car . She basically had me stopping and starting and then I had to drive around a corner which was very scary, but i did it.

I have no idea how I am going to remember everything she has told me as there is so much to learn.

My least favourite bit is the accelorator, as you only have to look at it and you could shoot off like a rocket.

All in all though it was good. Next lesson is Wed at 2:30.

pirategirl · 17/08/2007 22:04

what r u learning in?

nutcracker · 17/08/2007 22:05

Fiesta, bright bloody yellow too LOL.

pirategirl · 17/08/2007 22:28

lol, sorry got stuck on my contact lens thread.

I learnt in a renault clio turbo diesel, it was v easy to get used to. I had another car for just one lesson and staled about 20 times, and i hated it.

You willsoon getused to what you learn in tho. I am now struggling to get used to my own car lol, its a bit older, but i love it!

vehicle safety questions

just in case you didn't know about this, on that page scroll down to the vehicle safety questions. on my test i was asked how to check my brakes are working properly and had to test my horn when i got in the car. i didn't have to look under the bonnet but had gone through it with my instructor about two lessons before my test...on his engine all the bits you need to know about have bright yellow caps with a little embossed picture on the top of what they are.

i now have a car, a cute little VW Golf. Have driven three times, always with dp in the car whose leg periodically twitches just before i get to the brake pedal myself!! haven't got up the nerve to drive on my own yet, i'm still hesitant at pulling out of junctions and as it's tourist season the roads are very busy. We went the long way home yesterday to avoid turning right out of a particularly bad junction and i don't like driving faster than 45 mph but i guess the more i drive the better i'll get.

i'm sending good vibes to you all because even though i haven't got the amount of freedom i thought i would have, i'm getting there slowly and mentally i feel better already just knowing that i can get out of the house if i really want to.

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 21:42

Thanks Queenrollo

Lesson this morning was good, still need work on the parallel park though.

I have a question for you all please.
If your instructor was going away for 2 weeks and you were working towards booking a test, would you wait until the instructor gets back or book a few lessons with another instructor for those 2 weeks?
I don't have any chance to drive other than during my lessons so get quite rusty if i take a break and to be honest i want to keep going iykwim?

My other option is to wait and have 4 lessons the week he comes back
Just seems too long to me to wait though!

OP posts:
pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:19

hiya pelvic,

I had a time when i had 4 weeks between lessons once, i never considered going with another instructor. I felt comfortable with mine, and had had one lesson with someone else previously, who i didnt like, so i stuck with my instructor.

The gap didn't really affect my driving tbh.

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:25

Hi Pirate
Trouble is i can't wait 2 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ,i am very impatient!
I know what you are saying though,i mean i really trust my instructor but as i am having 2 lessons a week it seems so long to me to have to wait and no driving....

OP posts:
pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:28

get you, you love it!!!

Maybe they can recommend someone? Can your dp take you out?

pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:29

btw, an envelope for your 1st born iS here waiting to be posted. had to tak e the car to have the clutch looked at today, so have to go to Totnes again 2morro to pick it up, so will post then.x

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:31

lol i know ,i think i must have had a bang on the head
Yes think i will ask my instructor(maybe he will think i am disloyal)
Dp has said he will consider taking me out justto do manuoveres but our car is big so i don't know if it will help or hinder me?

OP posts:
MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:32

Aw thanks she will be excited
Hope you get the ladybug sorted.

OP posts:
pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:36

practising manouvres would be cool, but then again don't go losing confidence cos its gonna be different. The clutch, everything.

I just dont want yuo (motherly advice) getting upset either if you get an instructor who tells you differently to what you r being taught, or confusing you, cos that's happened alot to people on that 2pass site.

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:39

Yes i guess you are probably right about having another instructor

I may convince dp to take me though just so i feel that i am doing something .

OP posts:
pirategirl · 21/08/2007 22:40

oh could you email me your adress again?

MrsSlowLearner · 21/08/2007 22:40

To do the manouvers i mean.
