Anyone else having a bad day?

I woke up to hear DD yelling at 5am with an extremely stinky nappy - no going back to sleep there. So I went downstairs, switched the computer on and received 3 e-mails all containing the Klez virus, fortunately dealt with by Norton's Anti Virus before they did any damage but it took a bit of sorting out and checking. DD was in a foul mood and wouldn't eat breakfast so most of it went on the floor.

Yesterday wasn't much better, I was woken by the neighbour's car alarm going off at 5.30am and managed to get a stone chip in the car windscreen on the way to playgroup, not a bad one but right in the line of vision so the screen will have to be replaced and unfortunately isn't covered on the insurance.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr! Hope tomorrow is better.

Kyliebump

you are not the only one to look and feel that way. DW had DD over 4 months ago and still looks like she is pregnant.

I happened to mention this and got a smack around the head for my troubles.

Currently DW, myself and her MIL (terrible woman) are sorting out a diet and exercise program that suits her so that she can loose the tummy and get back into shape. If we find one that really works I'll let people know.

WideWebWitch · 06/07/2002 11:17

Simonhoward you completely deserved it! It's up there with "Fine" as a response to "How do I look?"

SimonHoward · 06/07/2002 13:36

WWW

Fine is a perfect answer, especially to that question if it the 2nd or more time that it has been asked in one day.

Just as Yes is a perfectly good answer to does my bum look big in this.

And No is a valid answer to can we just go into one more shoe shop if asked after you have been in more than 1 already.

Enid · 06/07/2002 13:41

God, I would never even think to ask dp if we 'could' go into one more shoe shop. I lead, he follows.

Alibubbles · 06/07/2002 14:08

PamT - ypur insurance company will repair the chip in your windscreeen free of charge, ring them and tell them and they normally send out Autoglass or someone like that. It doesn't cost anything, I had one done right in the A zone a few months ago.

I then got a bigger one and had the screen replaced but it only cost me £50 - the excess

I'm having a bad day, found out ds has cerebral palsy yesterday and have spent all last night and today with him throwing up all over me!

Queenie · 06/07/2002 14:49

Lou33 - any bad day I may I have been having has paled with your message - I am sorry for your news about you ds.

SimonHoward - your wife is suffering like my sister who's ds is now 6 months old and she still has her belly. She told me recently that a salesman knocked at the door and said to her 4 yr old whilst pointing at sister's belly - "what's in there then" - my sister replied "do you mind it's in the living room" and slammed the door. Was that you I wonder?

Lou33, just seen your message. I don't know what to say to you, but hope you are coping and are getting the support and information you need. Please keep posting here if it helps.

susanmt · 06/07/2002 16:20

Lou - just to say I'm thinking of you and your family.
((HUGS)) to you all

ionesmum · 06/07/2002 18:25

Lou 33 . Thinking of you too x

Marina · 06/07/2002 19:11

Lou33, I hope his vomiting gets better soon - you could really do without that as well at the moment. Thinking of you all and so sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis.

PamT · 06/07/2002 20:55

Alibubbles, the car is only insured 3rd party, fire & theft so it doesn't include the windscreen. We have bought a windscreen repair kit for £8 which will hopefully do the trick, if not it will be a trip to the scrap yard.

Lou33, it never rains but it pours, I hope the sickness clears up soon.

Thank you for all your kind messages regarding my son.

Ds has stopped vomiting today, which is good news, but his older brother has taken up the mantle instead. At least he is old enough to tell me he wants to be sick though, so I don't have the surprise elememt today!

PamT · 07/07/2002 16:34

Lou33, poor you, you have my greatest sympathy, I hope you don't get the bug next. I suppose you are up to your eyes in washing now. Things can only get better..... as the song goes.

Well, both ds1 and ds2 are still vomiting, not even keeping fluids down , so we have been to the doctor, who has given them something to try and make their stomachs less irritable and some rehydrat to see if that helps. Trouble is ds2 hates the rehydrat and we are now having to squirt it down his throat 5mls at a time to get something into him. Hopefully we shall turn a corner tomorrow. Fingers crossed please!Oh and ds2 has developed an eye infection too.

mears · 09/07/2002 00:34

If rehydrat is not liked, flat lemonade does the same job. You can make it go flat quickly by adding about 1/2 tsp sugar. Hope it passes soon.

lou33 · 09/07/2002 10:46

I tried that mears but he doesnt like that either! Thats why i ended up at the doctor, at my wits end. At least he wasn't sick last night, although ds1 is making up for that. He's still very weak, about all he can do is sleep, but at least it will help him recover. Thanks for the info tho.

dottee · 09/07/2002 14:58

Lou33, just seen your message about CP and the rest. It's a lot to take in, isn't it? Take one day at a time. I'm going to start a new thread for parents with kids with CP and other phys.dis/learning difficulties as it's good to talk.

jodee · 09/07/2002 15:27

Lou33, so sorry to hear the news about your son, I hope the vomitting passes soon. As an alternative to flat lemonade, what about flat coke (or doesn't he like that either)?

lou33 · 09/07/2002 16:34

Thanks dottee, I just saw your new thread and will be posting later. Jodee, we are doing that now, mixing rehydrat in as well, which he seems to like (i wonder why?!). They both seem to be doing a tiny bit better this afternoon, ds1 even asking to eat! But he's not too happy that he can only have dry toast to see how he goes first! Ds2 still not wanting to eat but I'm not concerned about that, as long as he drinks. Thanks for all your support with my moaning anyway!

trudles · 09/07/2002 22:59

lou33 have you tried giving ds fruity ice lollies its another way of getting fliuds down and they think theyre getting a treat also refreshing for your mouth when youve been vomiting.

mollipops · 14/07/2002 07:01

Lou33, I hate to contradict mears and jodee here, but I was warned by the children's hospital where ds was recently admitted for rapid rehydration with a naso-gastric tube after a rotavirus (gastroenteritis), that any sweet drinks including fruit juice, cordial and soft drinks MUST be avoided as they do not rehydrate the body but actually have a negative affect (something to do with reverse osmosis or something). Only water or preferably the special rehydrating mixture should be given with balanced electrolytes etc (I assume rehydrat is one of these - we have a similar thing, green-looking and ds hated it too).

I asked the nurse about it and she said that a few years ago they gave some babies a 50/50 water and lemonade mixture and the babies actually died (thru dehydration). Don't mean to scare you, but I just wanted to warn you that it is not the best course of action to give sweet drinks even if it means they will drink more. Better to persevere with the syringe if you have to, or just give plain water. Hopefully things are looking better by now anyway.

jodee · 14/07/2002 09:03

Hi Mollipops, I agree the rehydrat solution is best, but very often kids just won't touch it (I don't fancy the taste much myself). I have always given flat lemonade (only given flat coke at a last resort) to my ds when he had mild dehydration, and he suffered no ill effects, in fact he recovered very quickly.

I have a niece who was severely dehydrated and ended up on a drip in hospital - her gp had advised plain boiled water; she didn't improve and when in hospital her parents were told she wouldn't have had to be admitted if she had been given flat lemonade instead of water.

So there does seem to be conflicting opinions. Am I right you are in Australia? I did an internet search after reading your posting, and it was interesting to note that most of the Aus/NZ sites were anti the flat lemonade/coke option, whereas most UK sites recommended it in place of the rehydrat. I do hope your ds is OK now, BTW.
