I was stuck on Pippa for yonks but have gone off it. Then latched on to Harriet but we live in Essex so poor child will be called 'Arriet'. Then liked Verity but Soapstar Superstar arrived on our screens.

I don't want anything in the Govt top 100 but want an old fashioned name, not made up...thats really unusual

see top 100 here

My surname is similar to Gilbert.

Can anyone help????

Funnily enough my Dad went to school with a little girl called Tulip Norton. She had callipers on her legs and died when she was 9. He said she was lovely. That would've been in about 1940.

UCM - hope you mend soon - poor you.

I think it depends where you live too. When I lived in London, Jack and Ellie were both very uncommon names, but I knew several Inigos, Felixs and Clementines

Bobalina · 13/01/2007 20:00

Violet? Anyone else like Violet, I think it's lovely!

Ellbell · 13/01/2007 21:17

Ow, UCM...poor you! Hope you get better soon.

Must just add that I am really pleased to see my dd2's name (I thought I was the only person who liked it!) appearing at least 3 or 4 times here!

largeginandtonic · 13/01/2007 22:37

Poor you UCM, hope you are ok!

I love Violet, had bunnies called Mabel and Violet. They just got taken by a fox after xmas. I would have had them as baby names but i only have boys! Have 3, soon to be 5 sons and 1 dd!

moraine · 13/01/2007 22:51

My daugther is called Ella, she was the only one in pre-school and her last 2 schools, although it seems popular in some places.I have a friend whose daughter is called Ocean, unusual but with her big blue eyes really suits her. My grandma ws called Frances, another nice name.

JoAndTheBoys · 13/01/2007 23:06

And if you're wondering where I dug these up from, I'm perusing my old Christine Pullein-Thompson novels!

evenhope · 14/01/2007 12:44

Before you decide, UCM, double check on bounty.com. They have a thing to check the popularity of a particular name. Several names I had in mind thinking they were still unusual turned out to be only just outside the top 100.
