I was stuck on Pippa for yonks but have gone off it. Then latched on to Harriet but we live in Essex so poor child will be called 'Arriet'. Then liked Verity but Soapstar Superstar arrived on our screens.

I don't want anything in the Govt top 100 but want an old fashioned name, not made up...thats really unusual

see top 100 here

My surname is similar to Gilbert.

Can anyone help????

I know Demelza is a place and I know quite a few people called Demelza, but still it conjures up a Poldark-y sort of an image to me!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 12/01/2007 00:55

Tabatha
Tansy
Jay
Wilhelmina
Innes or Innez

MrsApron · 12/01/2007 00:55

Sylvie or Sylvia

Some fab names on here

I love Willow - my DP didn't, good job we had a boy!

JanH · 12/01/2007 00:59

Oh yes, it only started as a name in Poldark, Ellbell - Winston Graham nicked it from the place, his Demelza was the first, all the others will be younger than the book. (He nicked Warleggan as well)

nwgreenmum · 12/01/2007 01:00

I had a restriction for DD as the sirname is LONG. (12 letters)

I know a family where the daughters are called:- Verity (but she is called Welly by all because her younger sibling called her that) and Cressida

I have also recently come across Silvie and Rhiannon, and my best friend at school was Philipa, or pippa

JanH · 12/01/2007 01:02

Verity is another Poldark name (though not invented by WG) - it's very pretty.

UCM, have a rummage through Behind the Name - all the names anybody can ever have thought of and a few more besides

Idony. Yes I know everyone else will hate it but I wanted it and I didn't get the chance [stamps feet petulantly).

Oenone? Now that is unusual these days. Phyllis. Pyllida. Juno. Do you see a mythylogical Greek theme appearing? Europa...OK getting silly now...

Lily? Hermione...

Bit surprised Eleanor was so popular - I only know one other in my DD's age group.

belgo · 12/01/2007 08:41

Hazel. Very pretty, slightly old fashioned, and not too many Hazels around.

deaconblue · 12/01/2007 09:19

ooo I give you Grace. I would love a Grace but as we are Ropers the poor child would become a Groper!!

deaconblue · 12/01/2007 09:20

oops Grace is in top 100 sorry

Bucketsofdynomite · 12/01/2007 09:44

nogoes · 12/01/2007 09:53

Oops, Belgo got there before me!

MegaLegs · 12/01/2007 10:01

If I'd had a girl I might have called her Edie after my Nan. I also like Heidi - you don't see so many these days.

MumToAPiglet · 12/01/2007 10:12

UCM - if you like Thea you could call her Dorothea (love her in Middlemarch) or Theodora.
