I was stuck on Pippa for yonks but have gone off it. Then latched on to Harriet but we live in Essex so poor child will be called 'Arriet'. Then liked Verity but Soapstar Superstar arrived on our screens.

I don't want anything in the Govt top 100 but want an old fashioned name, not made up...thats really unusual

see top 100 here

My surname is similar to Gilbert.

Can anyone help????

Madeleine
Beatrice

(I'm with nappyaddict on those, though I prefer the French - or as I like to say 'correct' - spelling of Madeleine/Madeline!)

'Jewel' names are becoming more popular, I think: names like Ruby, Pearl and so on.

I also like:

Briony
Meriel (Merry for short)
Ellen
Grace (too popular, possibly)
Heloise (or Eloise)
Fulvia
Nerissa (Portia's sidekick in The Merchant of Venice, so has links to both Portia and Venetia... )
Cara

Where do you stand on Celtic names? I like some Cornish names, like:

Morwenna
Demelza (too 'Poldark'?)
Morvah

Good luck!

Ellbell · 12/01/2007 00:44

Ooh, we're definitely on the same wavelength, nappyaddict. I also like Esme and I particularly like Cordelia.

Wish something bloody would, feel like I am sitting on a basketball

If it does, you will have to wait & see. You did give me one idea though.

PMSL @ Cordless. Cordelia is one of those names that I like in theory, but am not sure would work in real life.

Also, one would want to avoid it being shortened to Delia!

JanH · 12/01/2007 00:51
