I was stuck on Pippa for yonks but have gone off it. Then latched on to Harriet but we live in Essex so poor child will be called 'Arriet'. Then liked Verity but Soapstar Superstar arrived on our screens.

I don't want anything in the Govt top 100 but want an old fashioned name, not made up...thats really unusual

see top 100 here

My surname is similar to Gilbert.

Can anyone help????

My dd (the only one) is called Seraphim Tabitha, she gets called Phin 90% of the time. If i had another dd it would be Dulcie, Dorothy, Mabel or Matilda. I love old fashioned names, im having #6 due in May and it's another boy. The names issue is getting very tricky now!

Some of the websites posted have been very helpful though, the old names one was fab! Thank you

largeginandtonic · 12/01/2007 10:56

I have a friend with a Thea and a Tula, so pretty. My friend knows someone who had twin girls and caled them Penelope and Prudence..awwwwww

LaDiDaDi · 12/01/2007 11:02

I love lots of the ones that have already been suggested.

Pleased to see my dd's name popping up a couple of times.

My ideas are:

Ada
Adeela
Anna
Anastascia
Belinda
Carlotta
Daniella
Esther
Felicity
Gwen
Hermione
Ida
Jemima
Kathleen
Lilibet (apparently it's the Queen's family name and I've always thought it sounded really sweet)
Mathilde
Myfanwy
Nancy
Orla
Penelope
Rosabeth
Rosamund
Sonia (perhaps only if you don't watch Eastenders)
Thandie
Ursula
Venus
Zoe

Paddlechick666 · 12/01/2007 11:13

largeginandtonic, that's a really beautiful name.

I really wanted something Welsh for dd but couldn't find anything I liked.

she was named very early on but about 10 days before birth i suddenly went for Willow. changed my mind back again tho!

tkband3 · 12/01/2007 11:59

One of my DTs is Edie.

A friend called her daughter Audrey which I didn't like to start with, but now I think it's lovely...particularly if you think of Audrey Hepburn rather than the one in Corrie

Tutter · 12/01/2007 12:01

i'm reading ewan mcgregor's 'long way round' atm. one of his dds is clara - now is top of my list if this bump is a girl

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/01/2007 13:07

Um, isn't Seraphim a plural word - as in Cherubim and Seraphim, meaning lots of them?

Aloha - I'm impressed, you have BOTH of DD2's names in your first list!

marymillington · 12/01/2007 13:10

Audrey is my DH's curent favourite name for bump.

I just keep thinking Audrey Forbes-Hamilton, To the Manor Born

Hulababy · 12/01/2007 13:12

Anatastia
Amelie
Lucie
Aimee

Fimbo · 12/01/2007 13:21

Adamina

Sadie

Senga (Agnes backwards)

belgo · 12/01/2007 13:23

What about Esther or Esme?

Ellbell · 12/01/2007 13:28

Seraphim is definitely plural. Singular would be Seraph. However, still makes a beautiful name (... would be a bit like calling dd 'angels', which is sweet...).

Was thinking about Lilibet and Elspeth (both short for Elizabeth, at least originally) and also thought of Betsy, which is nice too.

lilibet · 12/01/2007 13:30

I had lots of ideas but most have been mentioned apart from Miriam and Lydia.

Others I love are Erin, Esme and Frances

lilibet · 12/01/2007 13:34

And Lilibet of course

PandaG · 12/01/2007 13:37

How about Theane if you like Thea? I used to mind a Theane, and it can be shortened to Theaif you like.

If DS was a DD (s)he would have been a Harper Lee or a Maudie but DH likes Hannahlore. (a family name it would seem

Good job we're sticking at DS!

belgo · 12/01/2007 13:50

grouchyoscar - Hannalore is a popular name in Belgium and pronounced HannahLaura.

Twinkie1 · 12/01/2007 13:54

DS is a Harriet and is always called Harriet - we live the other side of the ditch from you so the accents are worse but DD insists on Harriet if people don't pronounce the H!

She is a proper little Harriet too - really suits her - dainty and pretty and polite (singing her praises here!!) and everyone comments on what a lovely name it is - there are only 2 in her school too which is nice.

Although she at one time wanted to change her name to Ruby (because of her borthers name!!) or Daisy cause she rode a horse called daisy and thought it was a nice name!! She has now decided that she likes her name and when she is grown up and has her ears pierced is going to be known as Harry!!

100PerCentCod · 12/01/2007 14:03

Anna

CheesyFeet · 12/01/2007 14:14

Dorothea, Thea for short

Also loving Esme, Martha and Amelie from this list

Edie
Verity
Beatrice

All nice too

They were all vetoed and we ended up with a Lucy, gorgeous name imo but soooo well used. DD is 2.6 and there are 6 (count 'em!) in her nursery. So I really get what you mean about wanting her to be the only one.
