Who are the newbies?

I've only been on mn for a few months - August I think it was. Who else is a newbie? It's hard to tell from posts who is new and who is 'old'! Also, do any other newbies find

1 you can kill a thread stone dead with one flash of your nickname?

2 your threads fall off the active convos at an alarming rate

3 you spend ages thinking of something incredibly witty to say and no-one notices?

only joking really, love mn, am an addict!

I'm a newbie too for about the same length of time. And I would say 'yes!' to 1, 2 and 3!

DizzyBinterWonderland · 08/12/2006 09:41

i can say yes to all that fartmeistergeneral, and i've been here about a year. it takes time.

JackieNoHoHo · 08/12/2006 09:41

It happens to those of us who've been around a bit longer too. I'm not an 'oldie', but possibly an 'in-betweeny', and I definitely do all those things .

fartmeistergeneral · 08/12/2006 09:42

Good Baconbaps, I will remember your name, will be nice to meet you on a thread and say hello!

  1. Yes
  2. Yes
  3. Yes
I think there is a secret password that when you figure it out, you post a new thread with that as the title, then you are offically accepted!! lol To be fair I have posted a couple of threads that people have been really helpful to....still no an offical member of the MN club yet though
Jam77 · 08/12/2006 09:47

have i done no.1 again??????????????

ParanoidAndroid · 08/12/2006 09:48

Oh yes, me too. But it strangely doesn't limit my time on here!! There are soooo many other things which need doing and yet MN just drags me in....

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 09:49

I've been here since August too!
And usually...Yes Yes and Yes.
I still like to lurk and read all the threads though.

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 09:52

No...Jam77... I have

domesticslobess · 08/12/2006 09:53

I've been here since November and

now worried that I will kill this one...

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 09:54

ooh hello domesticslobess
I know you!!!! (its nice when you recognise a name)

purplemonkeydasheranddancer · 08/12/2006 09:55

i wonder how long you are considered a newbie? i've been on for a year and i can still say a huge YES to all three!!

belgo · 08/12/2006 09:57

I'm also a newbie, from august or september, and :

1 you can kill a thread stone dead with one flash of your nickname? yes, absolutely.

2 your threads fall off the active convos at an alarming rate:I've only started two threads and they've been surprisingly popular

3 you spend ages thinking of something incredibly witty to say and no-one notices? yes, or someone gets in there before me.

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 08/12/2006 10:00

I've been a member since end Sept/early Oct and yes yes yes to those 3 questions! I lurk more than I post and have found most people v helpful, keep wishing I'd joined 3-4 years ago!

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 10:01

Shall we start a newbie rule?
If you see a newbie's name...you have to say hello, and post a that way you won't feel like a plumb as everyone blanks you and talks over the top of your head!

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:03

So nice to have all newbies together? So are we all new mums or experienced and just discovered the site??? I am a new mum to DD 3 months everyone else?

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:04

good idea ludaloo!

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 10:05

I have three dc..5yrs, 3yrs and 16 months (dh found the site by accident and now he wishes he hadn't! )

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:07

Ludaloo....I think we are the only ones left lol

belgo · 08/12/2006 10:07

I have two dds: aged nearly three and 15 months, and since discovering mumsnet, my dh complains that I use the computer too much!

And welcome Jam 77

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:09

Hi blego! My DH calls my mobile asking If I've left the phone off the hook (can't get broadband in my area yet )

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 10:10

Lol! its usually the way!
I do have to go in a mo though..as dd2 is trying to pull me off the computer, and I have to getds from nursery.
Will try and remember names though

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:10

Have to pop off for a while now....welcome any other newbies that join this thread in my absence!!!

Baconbaps · 08/12/2006 10:11

I found MN after looking for pushchair recommendations. I've got 2 DDs aged 15 and 13 and I'm pregnant with my 3rd (flavour unknown) due next Thurs (14th) so I lurk/post on the December ante-natal thread and also mostly lurk around active convos.

Nice idea about sending smileys to fellow newbies! I just hope I can remember all the names.

And I feel such a newbie I haven't changed my name to anything festive. When I do the name changing thing is when I shall feel part of the club!

belgo · 08/12/2006 10:11

lol at 'blego' !
