I've only been on mn for a few months - August I think it was. Who else is a newbie? It's hard to tell from posts who is new and who is 'old'! Also, do any other newbies find

1 you can kill a thread stone dead with one flash of your nickname?

2 your threads fall off the active convos at an alarming rate

3 you spend ages thinking of something incredibly witty to say and no-one notices?

only joking really, love mn, am an addict!

OP posts:
belgo · 08/12/2006 10:13

Baconbags - I haven't got a Christmas name either - was toying with 'ChristmasBELLSGO,' but then realised no one knows me well enough to recognise 'belgo' let alone a Christmas name!

belgo · 08/12/2006 10:15

I mean baconbaps

ludaloo · 08/12/2006 10:17

I'll remember baconbaps!...what a great name!

Is that because you like bacon baps...or your baps are like bacon ??

belgo · 08/12/2006 10:19

I think I've decided what to have for my lunch

MerrilyTooBuzzi · 08/12/2006 10:23

Yes Yes and Yes.
Just posted a sleepwalk topic, lets see it drop!!!!
My eyes are like stalks as DS had a little sleepwalk last night.

Now I must get back to work. I'll keep this watched and remember you Newbies. Changed name for Xmas fun keeping was fartoobuzzi, but i htink everyone thought id eaten too maany beans instead of being FarTooBusy!

dingdonglapinroseonhigh · 08/12/2006 10:27

hello everyone I have non id twin girls who will be 3 next thursday & both sets of grandparents coming tomoroow so off to tidy, clean, bake etc now...

izzybiz · 08/12/2006 10:32

Ive been here a year and can still say yes to all three!

I have had some good advice, and also alot of support and kindness from alot of people, but it has always seemed to me that there is a little bit of a clique that is very hard to get into!

Dont let it put you off though, im still addicted, a year later.

Nice to meet you all

winterpimms · 08/12/2006 10:33

Think i've been here for about 6months. I've got a terrible backache at the moment so not really sure why i'm making it worse by sitting at my uncomfortable computer chair

Would really benefit by joining the fly thread as would help my back and get my house in order

Baconbaps · 08/12/2006 10:36

Belgo - that's why I haven't changed mine cos noone knows who I am!

Ludaloo - can't quite remember why I chose the name but I do love bacon baps and as for the other reason - well, there was an incident in a cafe once when I was with my sister and the waiter brought over our order and said 'Bacon baps?' which caused much childish sniggering from the two of us

MerrilyTooBuzzi - I know what you mean about eyes on stalks. I woke up at 2 am and again at 5 am due to pregnancy induced nightmares and trips to the toilet. Got up at 5.30 am as was hungry for Rice Crispies! I may as well get used to disturbed sleep I suppose and at least I can have an undisturbed nap later.

MerrilyTooBuzzi · 08/12/2006 10:40

Its your body giving you some early training for when little darlings are born! How to Survive on Less Sleep Part One (before birth) and Two (after birth). Hope you have a nice nap latter.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 10:49

Am back - have just put DD down for a nap (but she is resisiting somewhat ) I make Izzy right, in general people are so helpful and offer advice but there is a clique, like being the new girl at school....so nice to be amounst others that are new too!

belgo · 08/12/2006 13:03

Hi - i've been thinking up Christmas names for you lot - how about:
leftoverturkeyandbaconbaps
Cranberryjam77

sorry really can't think of one for ludaloo! maybe something along the lines of
dranktoomuchChristmassherryandneedtheloo

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:00

I Love it!!!!! I think you should extend your Christmas name to "hearthechristmasBELLSGOdon'ttheysoundfantastic"
For sure....

Beabea · 08/12/2006 14:06

I guess Im a newbie. I have been on and off for about a year. Mostly a lurker mind you. I have DD 2years and DS 12 weeks

Baconbaps - great due date, my birthday!

noonar · 08/12/2006 14:06

i've been on mn since july, and i do know what you mean.

having said that, i've had lots of support from 'oldies' too.

something that did really f*ck me off recently, though, was 2 cliquey MNers ignoring me on MY thread, and making comments/banter ABOUT me/my OP, between themselves( not 'addressing' me at all). unbelievable.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:10

Hi Beabea and noonar - that is so rude!!!! won't happen on this thread by the way, silly First time mum question coming!, does calpol really knock LO's out? DD has been rough today so finally gave calpol and she has crashed out big time...is this normal???

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:10

I was saying ignoring noonar was rude, just read my post back and I didn't make it clear

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:12

I'm a very newbie. Only since October. On another thread the oldies are discussing how MN has gone down hill since there are so many new people, following lots of publicity. Oh dear that's me. I read about it in the Telegraph mag and thought I'd take a look. Nobody warned me it's addicyive.

So who do you reckon the old queen bees are? I've been trying to work it out. Cod seems the obvious one. She's everywhere and everyone loves her. Who else?

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:16

I started 2 threads today no one answered..
But they were quite dull.

Calpol is great but if you really want to knock them out give medised. Also some one told me that in hospital they give HUGE doses of calpol to children and doses recommended are very precationary. So when my DS's v poorly I always give them an extra spoonful for luck!

Seriously I think they sleep because they feel better and relax.

noonar · 08/12/2006 14:18

jam, i knew what you meant!

smileys, don't go there...don't want to massage their egos any further

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:18

Thank you smileys! at least I know I haven't done any damage!! lol

noonar · 08/12/2006 14:19

ps FMG, didnt realize you were new. you seem to be about quite a bit.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:23

who's FMG? am I being stupid (quite likely)
I think I'm gonna post all future questions on here lol

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:23

Do you really reckon they'd visit a newbie thread Noonar?
Actually though I know I'm a newbie Im not intimidated to post on threads. i think the anonymity gives courage. In RL I'd hang back wishing I could be in the cool gang. On here I jusr barge right in. That's one of the good things about MN, it is very egalitarian.

Beabea · 08/12/2006 14:24

Hi Jam77

I gave DD one of the tixylix once and that knocked her out but other occasions she was fine. Calpol doesnt normally have the same effect as Mediced. Maybe the Calpol has relieved her and now she can sleep peacefully.
