Who are the newbies?

I've only been on mn for a few months - August I think it was. Who else is a newbie? It's hard to tell from posts who is new and who is 'old'! Also, do any other newbies find

1 you can kill a thread stone dead with one flash of your nickname?

2 your threads fall off the active convos at an alarming rate

3 you spend ages thinking of something incredibly witty to say and no-one notices?

only joking really, love mn, am an addict!

Hi All, what a nice thread!

I've been lurking on mumsnet since I first got pregnant, about a year and a half ago, but only started posting this summer so am definitely a "newbie".

Shall we start a clique of new people and moan about how things have gone downhill since the grand old days of September 2006?

MistletoeGolightly · 08/12/2006 17:33

PS I am usually MissGolightly - this is my Christmas costume for December.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 17:35

So I found it, and posted on it, I will be hated for ever more now but I had to be honest. It's such a shame there is a divide on what should be a haven for all mums!!!!

DizzyBinterWonderland · 08/12/2006 17:36

like what you put jam.

MerryMellowmas · 08/12/2006 17:36

What going on then? I thought this was a nice thread, which other one, why, what, where, when ????

j/k cant be bothered with it tbh

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 17:39

Thanks Dizzy

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 08/12/2006 17:39

Yeah I lurk on a few other parenting sites but MN is my fave because it's so big, any nastiness doesn't stick around for long.

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 08/12/2006 17:44

Pssst What/where exactly IS Active Convos?

Plibble · 08/12/2006 17:45

I'm another newbie. I lurked for about a year before first posting 5 months ago or so. I thought I was the kiss of death for threads for the first month or so (please don't let me kill this one...) and thought of changing my name to "guaranteedtoendallthreads" or something. I have mostly found MN pretty welcoming though. I'm surprised to find that some people on this thread are new, as I have seen a lot of you around before.

DizzyBinterWonderland · 08/12/2006 17:45

active conversations.. click on all topics and you get all the most recent threads.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 17:45

HI Stocking - it's a thread that people are chatting on at that moment, like this one
am off for a while now folks - will pop back later!!!

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 08/12/2006 17:46

Plibble: you haven't killed it!

Dinosaurs: Active convos = 'active conversations' (at the top).

DizzyBinterWonderland · 08/12/2006 17:46

in the grey box at the top, under 'home'

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 08/12/2006 17:47

Oops! You all beat me...

Stockingsofdinosaurs · 08/12/2006 17:50

LOL I've been staring at it for 5minutes and finally found it! How useful, I always wondered how Cod managed to get in every thread I posted on - thought she was stalking me.

MerryMellowmas · 08/12/2006 17:53

Perhaps she is

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 08/12/2006 17:54

Regarding being new/old - I think there's always a pecking order from old to new, in every aspect of life, which I am quite happy with.

You don't expect to be top dog in your first day in a new job, you have to build your alliances slowly and at first you are working out the rules and how everyone behaves. Well it is the same with MN I suppose. I seem to have made it an obsession over the past few months to follow the leaders and try to fit in .

I would like to say that we owe the clique-ier members a huge vote of thanks, because I really enjoy reading their witty comments and insights. I think it is them that have made MN what it is today, and I don't get offended if I am ignored, I just think that in time I will become more confident to get it right rather than wrong.

Does that make any sense or I am just waffling incomprehensibly?

Boobooroastingonanopenfire · 08/12/2006 17:57

I see it the same way WhenSanta..., except I don't really try and 'follow' anyone.

Far too arrogant.

I just post on topics that interest me and on which I feel I've a valid point to make.

snig · 08/12/2006 17:57
