Who are the newbies?

I've only been on mn for a few months - August I think it was. Who else is a newbie? It's hard to tell from posts who is new and who is 'old'! Also, do any other newbies find

1 you can kill a thread stone dead with one flash of your nickname?

2 your threads fall off the active convos at an alarming rate

3 you spend ages thinking of something incredibly witty to say and no-one notices?

only joking really, love mn, am an addict!

i;ve been here about 4 months.......certainly killed many threads!!

doing the bar in the evenings has helped , can't remember who i stole the idea from but i am grateful for it !

2nervesnapartridgeinapeartree · 08/12/2006 14:29

Me. I'm new and an evil thread killer.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:31

Hi Lulu and 2!!! doing the bar?????

Beabea · 08/12/2006 14:32

I dont think medised works for DD anymore! Enjoy it while you can

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:33

Lulumama I thought yu were a real oldie original!!! you'd have def been on my oldie list.

I think how much you post is as important on here as how long you've been posting. People get to know your name and you seem you seem old and familiar.

I've already changed my name once though. Not for sinister reasons, just that my old name (Tinkerboo) was v sinilar to someone else. So it seemed polite to change.

Beabea · 08/12/2006 14:33

Lulumama - Ive seen the bar but what is it?

lulumama · 08/12/2006 14:35

bar is just a thread i start almost every night in chat.....no agenda. no invites needed, no particular topic of discussion, just come in say hi, i will serve you a virtual drink and we just chill!!! often, if it isn't opened by 7.30, one of the 'regulars' does it for me !!

it's just a casual, 'how's your day' sort of thread !!

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:36

At the rate this thread is growing the newbies will take over MN!!! maybe we should all put newbie infront of all our names lol (If I new how to change my name

lulumama · 08/12/2006 14:37

we can meet in the bar tonight and plan how to do it ! lol

off to do school run xx

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:40

What/where is the bar?????????

noonar · 08/12/2006 14:41

good point, smileys. i think some of them might visit a thread like this, just so that they can feel smug. i also barge straight in there. i also think that being ignored as a newbie

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:42

Sorry Lulu - just seen you explain the bar

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:43

Can I ask what all your DH's think of your new discovery of MN? Mine is already fed up of me being on it says I'm wasting loads of time. Which I am.
Jam how many children do you have and what ages?
I like this anonimity thing but am also V nosy.

Jam77 · 08/12/2006 14:43

I have to dash for a while - be back soon fellow Newbies

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:46

nah I'm V thick skinned on here (so far) not like in real life. For instance started 2 threads today which didn't get any replies. In RL I'd be agonising over what I'd done wrong and why noone likes me. On here i just think what topic shall I try next? It's like a game, nothing to loose on here, stakes are higher in RL.

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 14:49

Toady I've started 2, been ignored, and killed 2.

Oh dear when I put it like that it does sound bad. Maybe noone does like me. Did I do anything wrong? Not so thick skinned after all??

paddingtonbear1 · 08/12/2006 14:49

I've probably been on since March, although to begin with I only posted on the runner's thread as I was doing the London Marathon! I haven't started many threads but I would still say yes to points 2 and 3!!
I have one dd, now aged 3

paddingtonbear1 · 08/12/2006 14:52

smileys my dh often hogs the computer in the evening! And when I do get on he says 'mumsnet again?'
Now he reckons he's thought of a good new name for it - nagsnet!!! grrrrr...

3sEnough · 08/12/2006 14:54

Yup - glad it's not just me too!! Found mn in Sept and love it. Gx

MKGnearlyimmaculateconception · 08/12/2006 15:08

Came in september and was addicted instantly.

SmileysPeople · 08/12/2006 15:10

Those who seem to be on all the time, how do they do it? Don't they have cantankerous DH's who want to look at the sports results?

merrylissiemas · 08/12/2006 15:13

been coming on since nov killed a lot of threads at 1st, but its like everything. win some, lose some. going to the bar has helped tho

2Happy · 08/12/2006 15:14

There's quite a few names on here that I'm surprised at being 'newbies' - I guess you get used to seeing names of more prolific posters and it feels like they've always been here. Which is another reason not to feel intimidated and wade right in - I don't think it should matter how long you've been here.
