Piffle in Hospital...

Hello, Piffle's (Jane's) hubby here.
I hope that I have posted this in the correct section!

Jane has asked me to let the club know that she had to be admitted to hospital this afternoon with appendicitis. She has already had the operation and is now back on the ward recovering, both Jane and the baby are fine.
As many of you will know, Jane is 21wks pregnant so the docs are likely to keep her in for at least a couple of days so that they can keep a close eye on her and the baby.
I'll be back at the hospital in the morning to see how she is getting on and to take her a few bits 'n' pieces to make her stay on the ward easier.
I'll try to post an update when I get more news.
Kieran

Get well soon Piffle. Mr Piffle, it does of course mean she should be excused from cooking, cleaning or even getting dressed for quite some time. Maybe a shower and some fresh pyjamas and a slick of lippy after about a week. Trash mags, grapes and mint aeros are allowed instantly and in copious quantities.

Yours, Dr Frumpy.

Sympathies from another appendix-less person here - but thankfully I wasn't pg at the time!! Hope you get well soon, Piffle.

Oh no poor old Piff how awful

This happened to a friend of mine at about 20 weeks 4 years ago, she and the baby were both fine but it was terribly scary for her
((()))

Just got back from the hospital.
I have passed on your messages to Jane and she was quite touched at the number of replies to the thread. Thank you all very much

Jane is okay, but in alot of pain. She is only allowed paracetamol (via IV), which only slightly dulls the pain. I understand she can have one small dose of morphine a day, but I think they keep this for evening time so that she might be able to sleep better. She has been sick a number of times during the day and while I was there they gave her an anti-emetic (sp?) so hopefully she will "feel" better although still in pain.
What I didn't realise was that with being pregnant, the operation to remove the appendix could not be done with keyhole surgery, so she has had to have open surgery which of course will take longer to heal.
When I left the hospital yesterday afternoon (had to do the school run), Jane was just off for a scan to confirm appendicitis, and a little while later she called to say that she was about to go into theatre. It turns out that she ended up in the middle of an arguement between the surgeon and a hospital manager.
Basically hospital manager was saying that they should transfer Jane from Grantham to Lincoln where they had better maternity care should there be any complications. The surgeon stated that this would mean that Jane would not get into theatre for atleast another 3-4 hours, which in his opinion was too long, and would pose a greater risk to mother & baby.
Jane said she even offered to sign a waiver so that she could be operated on at Grantham.
Anyway, the hospital manager backed down and the operation went ahead at Grantham.
This morning, the surgeon came to see Jane and he explained a little more about the surgery he had performed. He also said that it was his opinion that her appendix was probably within an hour of bursting, which would have led to peretinitis... thank goodness that hospital managers do not make clinical decisions!

One of the midwives came to see Jane this morning and they had a good listen to the baby's heart, everything is fine. One of the Gyn-consultants came by while I was there this afternoon and mentioned that they are hoping to arrange for an ultrasound scan soon. He wasn't worried for the baby, but as they have the equipment it would be reasuring to "see" that the baby was okay.

I'll be popping back to see Jane later with the children, so I'll make sure that I print off the thread for her to read (didn't get time earlier!)
