Evening all.
Princessmel, thats great news if you have relatives to help you get to castings/jobs. Definitely can be stressful if you dont know london on too well ! I live outside london too so can be very stressful getting to jobs etc. I remenber getting really lost and stressed en route to a mothercare casting, ended up straying into a bus lane and got a £60 fine plus LO didn`t get the job! Do you live in Cheshunt too? I know it very well went to Goffs school!
Julie, what a dilemma! Yes agree maybe ds can be put on hold with Cs for a while. Maybe see how things go with B &B for the next couple of months .DD is with B & B ,they are a very reputable agency and gets lots of work for kids on their books. We are very pleased with them. Good luck, whatever you decide!!

ellesmum · 28/07/2006 22:15

hi mimi just emailed u back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

princessmel · 29/07/2006 08:33

Hi thorntons, that sounds awful, just what I've been worrying about. Seriously, its almost made me not send of the forms(the worrying, not your story!) Before I had kids I was a full time nanny and used to take 3 kids up to London on the train all the time to museums, hamleys see mum in her lunch break etc. in the school hols. It makes me so nervous thinking about doing it now.( none of them were in buggys tho) And I'm stair/escalator phobic. My dh family live in Cheshunt but when he was born they lived in Wood Green. I'm from St Albans. We live in Chiswell Green which is just outside the town. Where do you live?
I haven't got def help all the time but when FIL is free he will do it. Fingers crossed the times/days match up!

thorntons · 29/07/2006 09:48

Morning princessmel.Hehe can laugh about dd`s first casting episode now (she was only 4 months old too) ! Now a dab hand at finding my way to various locations for shoots and castings.Sometimes we do have to go part of the way by public transport if it is just too darn difficult to drive and park. We have a fab lightweight buggy -a Mclaren triumph which is really light, easy to fold and throw over one shoulder when negotiating escalators/stairs.Plus you will find that if you need help eg when LO is asleep etc there is always someone around who will offer to help you .However if you can are able to get fil to chauffeur drive you how wonderful!! I moved away from Herts when we got married nearly 12 years ago but still have family and friends in the area.We live in NE Hampshire /Surrey border so about 35 miles from central London.

princessmel · 29/07/2006 10:28

How long have you been doing it now? How long does it take to be a dab hand!
We have a maclaren buggy too but I also have a 3.5 year old ds to deal with. I haven't sent his pics off to many places and not bgum as I was only looking to get dd an agency. ds is gorg too but is starting nursery in sept and I want him to settle in and didn't think it would be good to have to pull him out early to go to castings/jobs or to miss days etc. When he's settled I will prob do it. Maybe when people at bgum see him they will snap him up! Also he's v crazy and lively and I read somewhere ( I think it was on one of my other 'yes' emails) that models should be v well behaved etc! He's not naughty just gets over excited.

thorntons · 29/07/2006 10:52

Hi princessmel,DD has been with B&B for over 2 years .Yes would definitely imagine a lot harder re castings/jobs if you have 2 under 5s. Also remember castings/jobs tend to come in clusters , it can be really busy one month and then nothing for months .Also you dont have to accept every casting /job if you have something else on but always give your agent as much notice as possible. Some parents specify they won`t take their kids to casting and accept straight bookings only. However your LO is of course going to miss out on work and some agents may not be happy with that type of agreement. . Castings sometimes jobs are often very last minute ,often told the day before even the same day! In a nutshell, you do have to be prepared to be very flexible, travelling to castings and jobs can be very tiring .However dd generally has a great time ,can be very well paid and it is lovely to see their pic in a magazine or in a store .Good Luck re your LO !c

princessmel · 29/07/2006 11:18

I think I'm going to try and go without ds if possible to start with so dd and I can get the hang of it all ( or bring someone else who can be in charge of him). When and if he does it too hopefully I'll be more used to it by then. I'm expecting the castings/jobs to be patchy and last minute as so many people have said that on here and it mentions that in the welcome pack. Hope dd gets some work though! I don't think we'd say no to doing castings as its all practice and also maybe it would put of clients/agency thinking we're fussy and not commited enough. If dh or someone else could come too we'd turn the day into an excuse to do something in London I think. I'd be so excited and proud if I saw one of my kids in a shop or a mag etc

thorntons · 29/07/2006 11:29

Princessmel, yes imo would definitely say you have the right approach . Good luck ,wishing you all the best and hope that your LO gets plenty of jobs and castings xx

mimi1uk · 29/07/2006 12:10

hi guys!

princessmel · 29/07/2006 12:20

Hi Mimi!

jurassic · 29/07/2006 12:21

Thorntons- How old is your DD who is with B+B?
Have you had some really good jobs with them?
Still trying to decide for my 9 year old, wondered if you had an older DD or a baby/toddler?

mimi1uk · 29/07/2006 12:23

hi princessmel hows u ?

princessmel · 29/07/2006 12:58

princessmel · 29/07/2006 13:27

Hi ellesmum, my dh went but he said it was good. ds loved it. He's got the book and a few of the toy cars. Its quite 'boyish' iykwim. Depends what your lo is into. x

mimi1uk · 29/07/2006 13:51

ellesmum cannot get into yahoo at moment, will keep trying

mrratty · 29/07/2006 13:57

Hi everyone,
I went to stay in london for a few days and it's taken me a ahwile to catch up with all the new posts!!!
Well done for all the jobs/castings. Everyone seems to have been really busy. DD had a wardrobe call for M&S yesterday just because they needed someone with her measurements to try on the clothes.
Have no castings/jobs lined up for next week but who knows if that will change.
mykidsmum - the stuff shot in Lewes was for the PR catalouge so we are unlikley to see the pictures unless they are printed in a magazine, though I do know that some of the stuff was for POS so we may well see a picture in store!

julie4travel · 29/07/2006 15:18

afternoon all

well my ds show (as the carpet ) went well last night, he was actually quite comical ehn the genie was saying dismissed etc to him and he was in a lot of the scenes. he was a prince in the first pasrt aswell, he really enjoyed himself and the performance was great, i really enjoyed it!

still thinking on b and b and cs! my hubbie recons go with b b so he can get more modelling and tell cs to put him on hold with them for a while and then see how it goes. i dont wantto muck anyone round yet am in a dilemna. nc def said no to photographic only, alpahabet kids said they would possibly do that, ts never replied and dont really want to resort back to the other agents for photographic only. maybe i will know more tommorow!

mimi1uk · 29/07/2006 15:41

hi julie im glad the show went well, and u all enjoyed it,!!!!!!!!!! what r u gonna do u should ask everyone on here to vote, lol

julie4travel · 29/07/2006 15:46

mim i recon so! what a dilema, wish they said yes back earlier in the year before i signed with cs and i wouldn't have had the problem!

is anyone with b and b? do you know if the model book is compulsary at £120 to go in and is anyones little ones in it? do they think its worth paying it if he did join them?

jurassic · 29/07/2006 16:00

Julie- I ve asked Thorntons some q's about B+B as her dd is with them but she hasnt replied yet.

I got this months Junior mag today and yet again the kids modelling in the fashion pages were from B+B they do seem to be very high profile.

julie4travel · 29/07/2006 16:03

Jurassic- tell me about it, i dont think my ds would get this opportunity again with them so i think i am silly if i dont take it up as they are rated as one of the best. shame mot said no as i wouldn't have had the problem!

what agencies are you choosing between?

ellesmum · 29/07/2006 16:14

hello mimi have u got into yahoo yet?

julie4travel glad your little ones play went well!

princessme my little girl is into cars at the mo so prob take her 2 c it.

jurassic · 29/07/2006 16:42

Julie - B+B and MOT!!

Prob go with B+B as they dont on many and seem to be the higher profile of the 2 but theres not much in it!

Very hard
