My second thread. The first is awaiting deletion due to details that were in the thread.

Basically, my brother is in intensive care with multiple stab wounds, he is stable, but critical. So he could go either way.

At the moment it doesn't feel real to me, I feel like I'm in a soap or something! It's very surreal :(

I found out a bit earlier that last night one of the nurses was brushing his teeth and his eyes opened, so she asked him if he knew where he was and he shook his head, she asked him if he hurt anywhere and he shook his head, she asked him if his throat was sore and he nodded, she explained he was in hospital in intensive care and his face went all Confused and then he fell back to sleep.

I've just been copying and pasting lovely comments off his FB onto word and emailed it to my sister, she's going to make a scrap book for him for when he wakes up and is able to look at it properly.

At least he isn't in pain as such + the scrap book idea is great. I hope he has a settled night.

I hope he does too, he's been fiddled with quite a lot this evening and apparently he didn't like being moved. They have to move him every 4 hours to help dislodge all the fluid and blood on his chest, and also most of his wounds are on his back so they need to be checked and redressed etc, he doesn't like being moved bless him. I'm happy with the care he is recieving though, the nurses who are looking after him are fantastic.

What a good idea with the FB posts.
How are you doing? It sounds absolutely horrific, your poor brother. Hope tomorrow brings some positive news.

I'm doing fine thanks, I still don't feel like it's real. I feel kind of guilty because I don't seem to be able to show any emotion for it whatsoever, yet when my brothers family visited today and they came back into the waiting room from seeing him they were in tears. I am upset, of course I am, he's my brother fgs. I'm just confused as to why I can't seem to feel anything. Does that make sense? Probably not, it doesn't to me!

I guess the reason you are showing no emotion and are feeling it is not real is that you are in shock, and it is your body and mind's way of protecting you in this awful situation. I am sure every single person who has read this thread will be thinking of you and your brother and wishing you well and hoping for good news tomorrow.

I hope your brother had a good night. In a weird way I feel that the fact he is making it clear he doesn't like being moved is a positive sign.

As for not showing emotion you are probably in autopilot and dealing with the here and now. Someone has to be strong and I guess that's you. I imagine that when your brother is fully on the mend you will look back at these few days and have a good cry.

Hello lovely

I hope your brother continues to improve.

Don't worry about the emotions - when my DB broke his neck (since sorted phew) I didn't cry until he was out of hospital.

It might be useful to get some counselling for you and your family.

I am also thinking of your brother and hoping that he is strong and able to come through all this well.

My mum has texted me an update -

DB got infection somewhere coz his temp high. He had CT scan earlier which didn't show much. Will be several hours till results.

He not on any sedation now just morphine and he staying asleep okay.

He just had really good cough and responded himself as his face went red and his head lifted slightly.
The nurse also cleaned his mouth out and he tried to suck on the tube a bit. Mostly reflex actions but good sign.

Apparently he's starting adding his own breaths in as well as the ventilator helping him so that's good, things are looking up :)

We need a miracle right now, if anyone's religious, please pray for him. If he deteriorates then they won't be able to do anything for him. They can't do anything for him now anyway, he's got to do it himself :(
