I feel odd about it but I'm not sure why.

I'm with WWW on this too

Rosy · 13/05/2002 13:38

Would it be possible to let people access the site for say, a month or two, then have to pay to continue to post? As we've seen from earlier discussion threads, once you start it gets to be a bit of an addiction. I know that it's a great part of my life, and would certainly pay to access it. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to publicise Mumsnet in maternity units and baby clinics - it's so refreshing after all the books that don't seem to bear any resemblance to the reality of having a real live baby at home.

bayleaf · 13/05/2002 13:50

Ditto - would like the idea of voluntary donations - it doesn't exclude people - but allows people like me who can well afford a largish subscription to show how important mumsnet is to us by putting our money where our mouth is!

jodee · 13/05/2002 13:56

Justine & Carrie, you have done a fantastic job with this site, I would be more than happy to pay a subscription. Good luck with the books and long may Mumsnet continue!

emsiewill · 13/05/2002 17:09

I wouldn't hesitate to pay to carry on using this site - I don't know what I'd do without it! Like the idea of a sliding scale.

Paula1 · 13/05/2002 17:10

Me too, just let us know how and when

Lizzer · 13/05/2002 17:33

Brilliant to hear the books are going ahead and I would happily pay a fee to register (in my case it would have to be quite small though unfortunately )

sml · 13/05/2002 17:44

We're all going to have to get used to paying for the internet in future, and mumsnet is definitely at the quality end of the market.

I don't mind the idea of paying a minimum subscrition that can be topped up if it can be afforded. A good idea mind you to allow free access for perhaps the first month, I was definately addicted before the first month was up .

IDismyname · 13/05/2002 19:28

Count me in. I'd be happy to suscribe. As addictions go, I'm sure it would be one of the cheapest!!

Hales · 13/05/2002 20:08

I'd be happy to pay a sub fee too!

SofiaAmes · 13/05/2002 23:37

Yes I'd be happy to contribute. In the us we have "Public" radio and tv that people contribute to voluntarily (vs. the compulsary tv license fee that we pay here) and it works quite well. They have fundraising drives once or twice a year and offer "prizes" to the larger contributors. But there is no minimum required so people decide on their on what they can afford.

Lovely, lovely mumsnet. (Sorry, just having a Bridget Jones moment there). of course I would pay - I can honestly say it has saved my sanity in the first 6 weeks of new mumhood (you can put that in the book if you like!)

A couple of ideas occur: firstly, why not a tiered membership - access to the discussion groups is (of course) free, but possibly pay a small subscription for some of the special offers, q & a sessions with experts, superior search facility etc.

Also, if this can be negotiated with your publishers, maybe put some of the distilled wisdom of the book online? Probably for fee payers and you could split some of the fee with the publishers.

Finally, I take it I will be able to send mumsnet memberships out to my new mum mates as gifts?

bettys · 14/05/2002 10:44

Would also be v. happy to subscribe - this is the best & most reliable source of help & advice I have found. Couldn't bear to think of losing it - what would I do at work? I'd have to actually do some ha ha.

sis · 14/05/2002 12:10

I too would be happy to pay and would support the sliding scale of nothing to lots of money so that no one loses access to the site. Like the idea of gift subcriptions suggested by someone earlier.

Lil · 14/05/2002 12:49

Five pounds isn't much to pay when you consider how much the average childcare book is. Am curious how many people log on to this site though, I wonder what % would pay?

I am more than happy to subscribe.

bells2 · 15/05/2002 11:15

I would be more than happy to subscribe

jessi · 16/05/2002 08:13

Me too!

Janus · 16/05/2002 12:11

I would be more than happy to pay a subscription, as I think most people who visit this site regularly would do. What I would be conscious of though is would you attract new people to the site if they had to pay, some may just look elsewhere?? What I would suggest is that you give someone at least a month's free subscription, wait until you get them hooked and then ask for the cash!!!!!

salalex · 16/05/2002 15:45

I would be more than happy to pay a subscription too, although I fear my employers will be seeking compensation from mumsnet for time lost while at work as resistance is futile!!

Tinker · 16/05/2002 18:58

Me too. Agree with Janus's idea as well. Lure the suckers in.

tigermoth · 17/05/2002 07:51

Or you don't HAVE to pay anything if you contribute a tip or a review? but can choose to if you wish, via the the sliding scale.
