I feel odd about it but I'm not sure why.

Cult website, I wonder who the High Priestess is?!!! At least we can be totally sure there are no vestal virgins here!!!

Ok, here's the review from Junior Pregnancy and Baby, April/May 2003 edition (they don't have a full-text website for the mag but I am hoping they won't object to it being reproduced here):

Thousands of mothers have found comfort and support at cult website mumsnet.com. Mums on Babies is a collection of postings from the site - personal stories and recommendations - interspersed with tips and and quotations from parenting experts. It's engaging, honest, and above all reassuring, tackling everything from breastfeeding in public to postnatal depression. Even the parenting experts come under close scrutiny - chapters such as "Annabel Karmel - helpful hints or one big guilt trip?" certainly struck a chord with parents in our office. Reading it feels more like a chat with friends than being told what to do, and whilst there are no cut-and-dried solutions, there are plenty of suggestions.

Thanks Junior!

Marina... can I ask an off topic question... in your issue of Junior is there an article on doulas???? or on VBAC???
Thanks !

Chinchilla · 25/03/2003 20:34

Wow - what a nice review! Of course, now we'll all buy the book to see if we are quoted

Marina · 26/03/2003 09:57

Pupuce, I'll check and get back to you. Sheila Kitzinger is one of their regular contributors and I do remember something about VBAC in that issue. Don't think there was a doula article this time.

Bought the book today from Ottakars, and think it's great. Bigger than I expected. Of course spent half an hour flicking through to find 'my' bits! Will buy copies for two friends now I've checked it out (via Mumsnet of course!).

Buy it everyone!

Was impressed at Ottakars - I asked where to find the book, and the assistant knew immediately the book i was talking about .. "Oh, that's the one written by mums on an internet site .." Or maybe she's "one of us"..?

Errm....... can I order a copy and it be sent to New Zealand? Does anyone know this or is there someone/somewhere I should ask?

Bobbins · 27/03/2003 10:56

Will Waterstone's have it?

Looked on Amazon and it says 4-6 weeks to be dispatched. I don't think I can wait that long.

grommit · 27/03/2003 11:22

WELL DONE to the mumsnet team. I always wanted to join a cult

Bobbins · 27/03/2003 11:24

I am a dappy mare somethines. Obviously I can buy it off the site at the discounted rate. Smart.

Those who've already got their mits on it, what do you make of it?

Marina · 27/03/2003 11:26

Off-topic momentarily - Pupuce, yes to VBAC, no to doulas.
Must order my copy asap!

Clarinet60 · 27/03/2003 16:20

I've just had a quick flick through my copy. Good, but tame is my opinion. No debate really, just the opinions and advice without the answering retorts and jokes. Which, presumably, was the intention. It's good, but no substitute for mumsnet.

kaz33 · 27/03/2003 21:08

Double page article in yesterdays Guardian G2 on us - we are the new gurus !!! And plug for book.

JoAnne427 · 28/03/2003 02:31

I want a copy! But sadly, only delivered in the UK - is there any way to get one in the US?

justiner · 28/03/2003 09:27

JoAnne27, Cathncait and Ghosty,
Promise to look into shipping to US, Aus and NZ - will get back to you.

JoAnne427 · 28/03/2003 14:10

Thank you! I have a list of friends I would love to buy it for...but then that would expose me, wouldn't it?

Flick · 28/03/2003 14:45

Thanks for my book - got it today - have already started to dip into it - am hiding behind my PC!!!

Twink · 28/03/2003 18:08

Mine isn't here yet, so being a complete saddo I stood scan reading a copy in our local bookstore today...

Tinker · 31/03/2003 19:04

How long are they taking to deliver this? I ordered it on Thursday night but no sign yet!

SoupDragon · 31/03/2003 19:06

I ordered mine late Thursday afternoon and it arrived this morning.

Having searched on Amazon (whilst I await my copy from mumsnet), the question that must be answered is whether Justine Roberts has also written "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Ivan Oozee Bites the Dust"?!!

KMG · 01/04/2003 00:23

Tinker - you got it yet? I ordered two on Thursday, and they arrived today - I think that's pretty impressive turnaround - well done guys!

Standing in a bookshop scanning through isn't sad ... I've just caught myself scanning through the bibliography for errors and inconsistencies ...!? (I've just finished a copy-editing course, which takes such things very seriously)

tigermoth · 01/04/2003 13:58

My book arrived the day after I ordered it, what a post office miracle!
