Not only has she looked after my children whilst I have a day off as I'm a bit ill, but she's just TEXTED to say she'll drop them back later in their PJs ready for bed so I don't have to go and collect them.

Oh and she's had my dog all day too.

Sad

What kind of family did I marry in to??? What on earth should I do???

Mine emails me without copying my DH in and tells me little stories and sends me clippings she thinks I might like. And whenever she comes she bring an interesting book to lend me. And she lets me lend her books back.

I should leave him shouldn't I?

pictish · 30/11/2011 16:28

That's dreadful Tea.
How are you supposed to prioritise YOUR mother's time with the children over your mil's when he does things like that??

lostinwales · 30/11/2011 16:28

Right now she even has the grace guts to keep her distance as my parents are staying and she doesn't want to intrude on their time with the Dc's. How presumptuous.

SnapesMistress · 30/11/2011 16:29

Time to move abroad to get away from bad influences I think. Skype will be enough for them to drip their poison love thorough.

smackapacca · 30/11/2011 16:29

OH dear GOD - I forgot about the bloody book lending!

I bought her one for her birthday - she read it, said it was brilliant then gave it to me to read.

I mean WTF???

My MIL did that! I have some comic books I knew she'd like so she lend me some Prattchett she knew I hadn't read in return. The cheek!

lostinwales · 30/11/2011 16:30

Don't get me started on Fil, always keeping magazines aside for me he knows I'd like to read, happy to come down and babysit, great to chat to. What did I marry in to?

pictish · 30/11/2011 16:32

My mil often passes books on to me she thinks I'll like too.

Oh....and you know what else? She visits an artisan baker shop every Tuesday, and deigns to bring us back a loaf of delicious bread, which I then feel cornered into eating. Controlling bitch.

purplepidjin · 30/11/2011 16:33

I'm so so so so so so sorry

I have a confession

DP and I are guilty of this

We invite DNephew to stay at ours for days at a time so SIL can have some peace with (autistic) DNiece

We spend lots of time at the weekends with them and take the kids to the park so she can drink cups of tea

We even buy them presents Shock

I will repent of my sins this instant and never again take part in such outlandish and offensive behaviour

SnapesMistress · 30/11/2011 16:35

purple Shock

Gapants · 30/11/2011 16:35

Yes the books! She is in a book club and has all the latest titles- snob. So she then passes them on to me,and tells me to then pass them on to mates. I mean is their no end to her need for influence and control!?

TalcAndTurnips · 30/11/2011 16:35

smackapacca - if you're really lucky, Jezza might bring Graham on, and then your MIL could punch his lights out before being wrestled back on to the banquette by two burly, bullet-headed bouncers in black t-shirts.

Once back on her seat, MIL would wipe away the blood and spittle with a grimy rag, before leaving the stage with a victorious 'V' sign and a few bleeped-out profanities to the chanting, howling studio audience.

Jezza would shake his head in disbelief, before bringing on the next family, where a nine-year-old girl is pregnant by her uncle's best friend's darts mate, but wants to keep it and her mum is going to stand by her. From prison.

Dlamis · 30/11/2011 16:36

I know Chestnuts, she even has sauce to put on them.

Oh Snapes I feel your pain. I forgot about the cakes too. Dozens of them, some even have chocolate in/on them. I don't know how i stand it!

smackapacca · 30/11/2011 16:36

Everlong - you say I'm a mug, but when should I have acted?

I suppose the first signs were doing flowers for our wedding, paying for the honeymoon...

It was then more subtle... Giving me time to recover from the birth before coming over with flowers... knitting/making the DCs nice clothes... having DD to stay whilst I was in hospital having DS... Then coming over and helping out after the 2nd C-section...

It was all just drip, drip, drip. I never noticed Sad

Well, I hope you can see just how wrongly you have behaved!!!

Just how could you?????

Poledra · 30/11/2011 16:37

Ohh, I have a MIL like this too. When I have to travel away for work, she and FIL come and stay and look after the children, so DH doesn't have to leave work early . And she cooks, does the laundry and mends any buttons etc she notices are missing.

FIL is just as bad - the last time they came here, he fixed the wobbly door handle on the kitchen, washed up after meals and, worst of all, helped DD2 do her school project!.

Honestly, do these people have no idea how hurtful this is?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 30/11/2011 16:38

I can see a struck a chord with the...sob sob...book lending. We poor DILs need to support each other in this.

(((((((HUGS))))))) to you all xxx

Gapants · 30/11/2011 16:38

smackapaca You might actually be me Shock

purple it is OK you can see the error of your ways now I hope! Grin

Poledra · 30/11/2011 16:41

Aaand, she buys me lovely, thoughtful gifts at my birthday and Christmas. And sent me flowers at the births of each of my children. And cuddled me while I wept about how hard I found bfeeding DD1. The cow.

smackapacca · 30/11/2011 16:41

Purple - do you understand just how helpful you're being?

Can you imagine the respite that you're giving?

No - didn't think so.

Shame on you.

OP posts:
pictish · 30/11/2011 16:43

Yes it's all the little things isn't it?

When my mil was here last Monday babysitting while we went to a gig (bad enough in itself), she noticed a load of washing in the machine that had finished....and hung it up!!!! Actually HUNG IT UP!

I was speechless.

lostinwales · 30/11/2011 16:43

Don't get me started on food, she cooks us all sumptuous meals even catering for ds1's quirks (ASD) and then makes amazing puddings for us all. Then if I'm trying to lose weight she will make sure there is plenty I can eat and stocks up on fat free yoghurt, so confusing Confused
