Hooray for Grandmas!
We survived 2 days in a row at hospital for DS's evaluation, on the whole good news so happy about that. I now have to go for the next 2 mornings to the place where we're going to be doing therapy next week for some getting to know you type sessions, should be interesting and hopefully none of the hanging around for hours waiting to be seen which happens at the hospital.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2011 20:33

Great news Sputnik, so happy things are moving along and with a positive outlook. What did they say? Did you find English speaking docs and staff? I'm impressed!

Sputnik · 08/02/2011 20:58

Actually the doctor we saw this time had worked in the US, he is new and seemed very disponibile, the psychologist doing the tests also spoke english so it was fine. Basically they gave a diagnosis of developmental delay which is on the ASD spectrum but not serious enough to be autism. His cognitive development is fine and they said that gives him a good prognosis, the therapy we'll be starting next week should really help. So, overall good news :)

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2011 21:23

I am so so pleased Smile

Sputnik · 08/02/2011 21:34

Yes, me too. But lots of hard work ahead. The next 3 weeks we'll be doing this ABA therapy 9-5, 5 days a week, it's going to be intense! I'm kind of loking forward to it though, and meeting the other parents.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2011 22:17

Very intense I'd say! But I am sure you are excited to start it nevertheless. What is ABA (ignorant emoticon) exactly?

I am watching The stand on youtube. Have you read the book? Was it you recommending it?

Sputnik · 08/02/2011 22:29

No never heard of the Stand. Any good?

ABA = Applied Behaviour Analysis. Basically it's modifying behaviour or teaching new skills by moving forward in really small steps and rewarding (eg playing with a favourite toy, or verbal praise) at every step. Hopefully by the end of next week I'll be able to tell you more!

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2011 22:49

Oooooooooh, I see. Yes, I am sure you'll tell us more by the end of next week!

The stand: it's an apocalyptic novel by Stephen King. I loved the beginning (where everybody dies), the second part (good vs evil) is a bit bollox.

Sputnik · 08/02/2011 22:56

Oh I like a bit of apocalypse, me :o

Francagoestohollywood · 08/02/2011 23:01

You need to read the stand then Grin

eurocommuter · 09/02/2011 18:43

Hello All

Hope everyone is well and Little ones have recovered.

Sput that I happy you have got some news and something to work with. I hope the ABA is going well.

Update on Ds. He is doing better than expected at new school. He mises his friends and teh school bus, but doing okay. Will be taking him to see Occulista about his copying problem. We have been asked by the school to sign upn for a course that the teachers do every year whcih they like to do with parents. It's all about understanding and empathising with children and their frustrations. So looking forward to doing that in the spring. The teachers at the other school need that.

Will come an catch up properly.

Sputnik · 09/02/2011 20:35

Glad to hear your DS is getting on well, that course sounds good.
Went fine here this morning, round 2 tomorrow...

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2011 21:54

Ciao Euro, such a relief to hear ds is doing well in the new school and I agree that the course sounds very interesting.

Sputnik, Smile
I wonder how rosa is doing with all her boxes.

Rosa · 10/02/2011 10:26

quick drop in up to eyeballs ---all go hoping to move next week . I have hands like a builder , no nails , and am upacking / re packing ,cleaning . DD1 not in so much pain but scared a bit ..also very very tired can't get my head round it we are taking her out every day , she is eating well , but she is sleeping afternoons and then in bed for 10 - 11 hrs - maybe she is not sleeping well but she doesn't complain or get up like she did the first few nights. Oh well we will see- off to do another box before going to get minirosa.
Sput and EUro am very pleased for you and fingers crossed things continue to improve .

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2011 11:18

Wow rosa, things are moving fast! Hope everything goes well Smile

Good to hear dd is not in pain anymore, maybe she is tired "just because", a mix of a bit of shock for the whole fall/injury thing, a bit of emotional stress for the move and the seasonal blues! (you know that here in Italy they say that you get tired when primavera approaches... I don't think there is anything scientific in it though!!!)

eurocommuter · 10/02/2011 18:18

Rosa
Wow that is full on. Glad dd is not in pain anymore.

Franca never heard that one before. Will try and look out for it this primavera to see if there is any truth in it.

Sput pleased day 2 went well!

Francagoestohollywood · 11/02/2011 13:35

Oh yes Euro: la primavera stanca. Grin

Sputnik · 11/02/2011 20:08

I think I've heard that one. Plus, there seem to be more car accidents. That is just a personal observation though.
I am tired, whatever!

Francagoestohollywood · 12/02/2011 16:39

I am always tired, but to be honest I usually feel perkier in the spring!

eurocommuter · 12/02/2011 21:22

I wonder if its because people spend all their time spring cleaning that makes them tired. Inlaws where suprised today that decided to stay in bed till midday today as dc were playing blissfully outside after breakfast. She thought i should start spring cleaning and dh should be trimming trees. I would but didn't feel like it. Then they both complained this evening about how tired they were. Firstly, it's not spring yet, secondly, i really needed the lie in and it was their choice to start all the work.

Anyway, rant over. I'm feeling quite refreshed. We are off to Gubbio early in the morning tomorrow for a day out. So will turn in ealry.

Notte

Rosa · 13/02/2011 16:21

Hope you had a great time in Gubbio, Euro.
Dh is in the UK, here it's rainy and I didn't manage to go to the manifestazione, uff.
