Welcome mrsmills.
Hahaha Rosa its not for me!

Sputnik · 26/01/2011 20:11

Hi Mrs Mills, sorry to hear about your miscarriages, it must be very difficult. I am a Brit in Rome, been here 20 years.
Rosa I have been ruthless really and chucked stuff in the Caritas bin that I know I will never use and didn't otherwise know what to do with, no point dragging stuff like that to your new place. They take bedding as well as clothes, or at least here they do.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/01/2011 20:41

I agree, use the Caritas bins or ask your nearest parrocchia, they usually collect toys/clothes/bedlinen etc for families they are helping.
Today I filled a box of ds's old toys (mostly bob the builder), but he doesn't want me to throw them away, but keep them for his children!

Sputnik · 26/01/2011 20:57

Aw sweet!
Luckily DD is fairly unsentimental and knows all about ebay and the second hand shop. Plus she looked at me the other night trying to convince DS to wear the only pair of clean pyjamas left, when the ones he liked were in the wash, (far, far more traumatic than you'd think) and said "I really don't want to have babies mummy"

mrsmillsfanclub · 26/01/2011 21:32

Thank you all for your warm welcome.
xx

Rosa · 27/01/2011 09:44

I was going to use the mercatino del usato that is right next door sweet ladies who take everything and sell for a mission in bolivia or something. Thing i my cleaning lady goes there and she might be a bit offended if she sees it. I have heard that Caritas just macinate everything which is a bit odd.
Sput that is so sweet from your dd sure there are times that she likes him !!
I missed breakfast this am so bought a cornetto and shoved it in the microwave 15 secs - bloody heck just burnt my mouth on the jam and dropped jam on the mouse and keypad...opps- Off to take boxes down 40 steps - hence the cornetto.....

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2011 12:44

Lol and lol at dd's comment Sputnik Grin!!

Rosa, ouch! Hot jam is painful!

I have heard the same thing about Caritas too.

I have just got back from morning in the library, then I spent £££ on veggies and cheeses at the market, and froze my a** as it is really cold here, I think it must be snowing somewhere nr...

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2011 13:21

Dh is going to the UK and should come back on saturday, but I see that snow is forecasted... grrrrrrrrr

Rosa · 27/01/2011 13:45

Is he going with your M&S list and magazine requests?
It looks sort of grey ish round here and it is that cold dampish ( not foggy) feeling .Hopefully not snow but who knows. Went to pick up minirosa and she had a temp just as I was getting her - but thankfully the other mums that were there heard them say she was fine most of the morning and ate / played etc. Weeeyyyheeeeyyy I said one / both would get ill this weekend and I was right ! My reckoning is that she might have got a chest infection as she has had a cough cattaro for a bit now - I just hope its not the 5 days of temp flu ! DOmani will try and get her to the paed just to check her chest so I can have peace of mind over the weekend.
DD1 so wants to go to her best friends party on sat I hope she holds out !

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2011 13:48

I totally forgot to write him a list this time, but hopefully he'll get me a copy of livingetc and the guardian on saturday!

Oh dear, I hope minirosa doesn't get ill.
I invited some friends around tomorrow and dd has a friend coming to play on friday afternoon. Am I out of my mind?

Sputnik · 27/01/2011 20:52

It says on the big yellow clothes bins here (come to think of it I don't think they say caritas on them anywhere) that the clothes in buono stato are used as clothes, or something to that effect. It's a bit academic here actually as in actual fact they are generally emptied by the zingari. Or at least they fish out what they like.
Oh dear hope minirosa is ok. DD looks like she might be coming down with something too.

Francagoestohollywood · 27/01/2011 21:05

Yes, same here sput.

Oh no, lets hope she is fine.

JustForThisOne · 27/01/2011 23:00

here there ciao

I am writing on behalf of 2 friends of mine. They are respectively parents of 15 and 16 year old italian boys
They are good kids from very decent families. They do not drink or smoke and they are very good at babysitting
They will be going to english school but it would be great for them to spend time with a british family. Will be out during the day but should be home for dinner time.
My friends say that I should let anybody know that "the minute they mess up they will come and get them like a shot"
They can pay for rent and food but also offer accommodation in return (beautiful homes in tuscany btw)
If you can help get in touch Thank you

Rosa · 28/01/2011 11:07

Just for I would post on a general thread - aslo where are they will be studying in- 2 friends should go to 2 different families or they won't learn a thing - I speak from experience of 1 summer working with italian school groups in the Uk ( Mai piu !!!!)
Minirosa has influenza- so expecting another 3 -4 days of febbre and fingers crossed re the tosse. Then dd 1 will get it and probably dh and I as we are maxed out. MIl miffed that paed diddn't give antibiotics.. Have given up explaining. I am just hoping that the probotics, vitamins etc will help her fight it better ( as the medic said on Rai 3 the other week!) SO packing is at a halt - I should be taking everything to ground floor today so I can get to the other stuff...minirosa is on the sofa and I can't move....Am on the crappio laptop !

Rosa · 28/01/2011 11:09

Well the Caritas could use my bedspread as a wind block there is so much nylon in it !

Sputnik · 28/01/2011 11:44

Sorry you are stuck with the move Rosa, think of it as a rest.
My DD has febbre too and is off school, feeling a bit shivery myself too. Hope we don't all get sick at once.

Sputnik · 28/01/2011 11:46

Ah sorry Justfor, meant to agree with what Rosa said, most of us are in Italy so can't help really.

Francagoestohollywood · 28/01/2011 12:33

Hi Justforthisone, I agree with the others and I recommend to post on the general thread, because the Little Italy mnetters who live in the UK have been neglecting us for ages now, we are all in Italy, apart from giveitago.

My advise is to try and look for somewhere in a small town, where there are not too many dangers. When I was a teenager I went twice to Penzance, once to Cambridge and then once in London, with a friend (it felt "safer").

Rosa, sorry to hear about minirosa and that you can't do much for the move at the moment.

JustForThisOne · 28/01/2011 22:16

Thank guys
I did post on a different thread thank you.
I ahree with you of course, they should not be together, they do not want any way. also think they should stay somewhere down coast or Cambridge or similar
Had a chat today with one mum and she was like...." why? what could go wrong with been in london?" [rolling eyes]

where do I start ;-)

anyway... cannot believe no one is in Florence... I could do with a good chat / cup of tea

speak soon

Rosa · 29/01/2011 10:13

Its all gone - how in heavens name its all going to fit in the new place I don't know - plus I don't have all the furniture I need there yet - am waiting to see what its like with the stuff we have already. Its like living in one big MESS here and its driving me mad. Still have shed loads of stuff to go and sorting . Minirosa hasd a nasty febbre ieri pm and a restless night with 38 but teh sugar free tacchip gave her the same effect as the normal one and she took 1hr to settle. Then dd1 came in about 3 times she was on a mattress in the salotto and the monsters were hiding I think in everything.

BananaGio · 29/01/2011 11:06

hello all from UK. Well we had a wonderful trip complete with 10 hour delay at Fiumicino while they flew a replacement part via Brussels to Rome. Thank goodness for the genius who put a soft play area in the airport so at least DS was able to use energy up a bit.
Hope all you with febbre are improving.

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2011 14:35

Hello. Gio 10 hrs delay!!! What a nightmare! I hope you are now having a lovely time in Manch.

Rosa, lots of sympathy vibes from me, both for the move (I hate living in total mess too) and minirosa's temp.

Cold and grey (again) here too. Took the children to Mcdonalds (bad mother emoticon), but they were incredibly helpful at the supermarket afterwards. Ah, bribes....

Francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2011 14:37

Justforthisone, I wouldn't think London would be that dangerous, if you avoid a few areas... am I wrong????

Join us for a chat, and a cuppa (better if a Brit makes it though, I don't make good tea, it must be in the genes!!!)

Sputnik · 29/01/2011 15:20

I've got some darjeeling in. Not to mention toast.

Francagoestohollywood · 29/01/2011 16:04

Mmmmmmm, lovely Smile
