Can I win the shittest weekend competition please......
Took dd to the festa she was sooo happy ( nice spread as well lots of yummy homemade stuff). She was doing a percorso on those mezza palle things ( the animatrice is the gym instructors daughter who does a great job.). Dd1 put her foot the wrong way fell off landed on her shoulder and she was in pain .Off we went in ambulanza to pronto soccorso- bronken collarbone - in complete torso bandage for 15 days minimum and then no rough sport for 6 weeks. SO no gym club - well maybe the dancing bit.
SO all plans that were on hold we are living in a complete mess and the clothes I have here for dd are too small so off to see if I can find anything left in the sales- CArdigans etc and a coat as her winter one won't shut.
Stressed - me no!

Sputnik · 30/01/2011 13:19

Oh no Rosa :(
I thought I was having a crap weekend stuck inside with poorly children but can't compete with that.

Francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2011 14:49

Oh Rosa, poor dd Sad. It really sucks, poor girl.

BananaGio · 30/01/2011 15:07

House still a mess but I managed to find a coat in Coin sale Eu22 its padded but not as much as I would like so I found a mantellina in Benneton for Eu8. Never even looked for me !!! Went to the disney store and a bambola like a flexible Barbie of Trilli was Eu17 !! Anyway it was worth it for my little girl. She is in pain when she moves wrongly or minirosa pushes her - both dh and I are exhausted from telling mr off - trying to distract etc. Also dd1 is still scared of the pain so squeals loudly whenever she feels threatened thus fueling mrosa...Arrgh. Domani both at home but we might go for a walk if MR is senza febbre stanotte she hit 38 last night again .
Sput have your dcs got the flu ?

Sputnik · 30/01/2011 20:22

Ah poor little thing, hope she heals quickly. When can she go back to school?
Yes DD definitely has flu though quite a bit better today, DS is very snotty but no temp and is eating ok so who knows?

Francagoestohollywood · 30/01/2011 20:30

Oh dear, poor thing, it must hurt badly. Can you give her a bit of nurofen for the pain? And spoil her rotten, of course Grin

It snowed a bit here this AM, our inlaws came for lunch, which was lovely, I made a "spinacino" and all sorts of vegetables, I think it went down well.

Rosa · 31/01/2011 12:54

She is having tacchip 3 times a day regardless for the 1st 3 days then on request basically. SHe does seem more confident moving in it today apart from getting on the toilet and getting up from the floor - she doesn't feel safe. This pm Dh is coming home early and taking her for a walk - she wants to go in the buggy - but we have to get her confidence up . BUT she needs her hand held for obvious reasons we have 40 steps down plus the bridges uneven pavements etc. We just need to be careful until Feb 16th then she has the bandage off. Re school - in theory after the 16th but as there are 4 teachers for 3 classes I might go and see if she can do some mornings if I take her in after play time and pick up before lunchtime play . Or as the other kids know me I can go and stay there with her. The worry is not so much dd as she will play quietly , not go on the slide etc - it is the other kids who might bang into her or knock her over - even if they don't do it on purpose...they are asilo children!
It is so nice (even emotional) how many mums have offered to help , have her to play etc one even offered to have minirosa.....
MR has now a persistant cough ( run of this virus). Just hope it doesn't last too long as I need sleep.....

Francagoestohollywood · 31/01/2011 14:05

Glad she is feeling more confident today. And glad to hear so many people offered to help, it is always heart warming Smile

Sputnik · 31/01/2011 14:17

Take them up on it! No really, I'm sure people like to help in these situations, I certainly would if I was near you. Poor thing, she will be very bored by the end, maybe she'll be able to go back a little sooner. What are you going to do about the move meanwhile, is it all on hold?
Was hoping my lot would be back at school today but no such luck, DD still has a little fever, if anything she is worse than yesterday. So day 4 of being stuck inside...

Francagoestohollywood · 31/01/2011 14:24

Oh serious cabin fever after four days, I feel your pain!
I agree with Sputnik, take them up on it, send her to playdates etc.

Ah, I was meaning to ask, do you think it is possible to find golden syrup in Italy? And if not, can I sostituirlo with what?

Sputnik · 31/01/2011 14:39

I have seen it, do you have a supermarket called Elite in Milano? Otherwise I would use honey, if it's not liquid then warm it up in bagnomaria and it'll liquify

Francagoestohollywood · 31/01/2011 14:42

Ok, thanks Sput. No, I don't think I've ever seen an Elite here, but I'll try Superpolo that has lots of products from all over the world.

Sputnik · 31/01/2011 14:44

What are you making?

Francagoestohollywood · 31/01/2011 14:53

I have seen a good recipe for biscuits on here!

Rosa · 31/01/2011 18:59

I get mine in a small deli that sells funny pasta and foreign foods. I buy it in a bottle it costs more but takes up less space than the tin - plus you can pour it.
Sput understand your cabin fever but this pm we went out as minirosa with the coughing was sick during her trying to nap. She was vertical ( as lying down was just irritating her more) and it went over the sofa, me, her , the favourite bunny. SO bathed her and then took her with dd and dh out .... She had a complete meltdown in the vaporetto coming back and whilst I went to get her new cough syruo ( Sekki???) a lady told dh to pick her up from her buggy to stop her from crying (oooohhh bad move) He was short with his reply like if you know my child you will know whey I am not letting her out and mind your own business.....
NO gym tonight as am too tired...Also the diet is not going too well either.
Sput minirosa has 3 days of febbre then sunday thought it was all over then she started coughing for England .....

Francagoestohollywood · 31/01/2011 20:23

Oh rosa, che giornata!!!

Sputnik · 01/02/2011 13:25

Hope things are better today Rosa.

eurocommuter · 01/02/2011 17:40

((((Rosa)))) poor dd and poor you. Hope things are better today.

I typed a long message last night but lost it so will summarise!

Justfor - London is not that dangerous. I haddh's cousin here learning English and he was suprised that he saw more muggings in Rome and didn't see any for the year he spent in london. I think London is not very family friendly but it'snot any more dangereous really.

So~ drama at casa EC! So ds has improved and does his homework on his own with little help from us. This has been since the Christmas break. So dh goes to school on Friday to see how he is doing in class and Maestra says he's worse. Dh looks into class and sees ds playing cutting pieces of paper and not doing any work Sad so he speaks to him and starts working. So the maestra says. he doesn't listen to me so i just leave him alone Shock.
Yesterday we go to see the Preside, who says but it's not our fault he doesn't like to work; more Shock. He works at home with very little help. We took him to another teacher (retired and he did what he was told, so it is only in this class that he refuses to work. He won't respond to us exactly why, just excuses such as i was tired, the blackboard was too far etc. Afer endless arguements and them not offering any solutions only complaints, even after we kept asking what can we do?, we asked for a nulla osta (sp).We went to aother school in a different town and the enrolled him immediatley. So I was in a state yesterday. Wasn't sure I had made the right decision. Couldn't beleive the lack of interest in a child's education by a school. So feeling guilty that I have failed my son and maybe they are right it's not their fault, it's ours. It is a smaller school and they have a maximum if 20 children, it's 5 days a week rather than 6. I do feel better today and don't think it can get any worse than it was at that horrendous school.

eurocommuter · 01/02/2011 17:42

Sorry the preside said it's not their (not our)fault as in the school, that ds wasn't working.

Rosa · 01/02/2011 19:18

Ec what the F?? I cannot believe a school would behave like that - yes it is their fault that ds is not working and you dod everything out of school that you could do to help - they just diddn't do anything inside the school. I am sure you will have done the right thing and I hope that ds adjusts ok .
Today better illness wise I think - new cough stuff seems to do the trick. I am loathed to give too much as it is a cough depressant and I have heard that when there is cattaro then they should be able to move it so it doesn't get infected but she coughs so much that her whole body shakes and I think she is going to vomit again, she has been retching when it gets too much so I have stuck to the syrup. DD1 is more confident and I think it is going to be us shorthly that are going to be the ' be careful , don't do this , don't do that !!'
I am off to bed with acammomila as diddn't get much sleep either last night or this pm and dd1 is catching up now from last weekend so she will not be napping soon.....

Francagoestohollywood · 01/02/2011 20:03

Eurocommuter Shock, Shock, how useless the school was! Well done for changing school, I hope ds will thrive there! And good thing it is only a class of 20 children, much better, I think.
But I agree with you, it is totally stressful for a parent when it comes to make such big decisions, I really feel for you. I am sure it will turn out fine.

The teachers in ds's class are apparently totally unhappy of the class's behaviour, apparently the children are too "svegli". Knowing some of the children, I have to say that I agree with the teachers, but I also feel they should use different tactics to improve the behaviour, no? And I worry that ds could misbehave, I know for instance he is a chiaccherone and does anything for a laugh. Arrrrg!

Rosa, I hope you have a restful night Smile

Sputnik · 01/02/2011 21:18

Euro, sounds like you are well rid of the school, unfortunately I can well believe it as they were a bit like that at DD's materna, totally couldn't really be bothered and the kids pick up on that (I know I did at school).
I noticed you mentioned he said the board was too far away though, has he had an eye test? Just a thought as it rang a little alarm bell with me. Apologies if you've already covered this.
Glad you're having a better day Rosa, bones heal remarkably fast when they're little.
My DD still has fever since last week and is really lethargic and not eating so the doctor said to start her on ABs. DS seems to have escaped though, hoping to send him back to nursery tomorrow.

cellini · 02/02/2011 07:40

hello all! sorry for absence - our internet is patchy at best at the moment (long story, been told it will take 60days to install non-wireless/phone line etc!).

yikes - sounds like much mis-hap and illness for many - poor Rosa and family, hope you're (all!) feeling better soon..two ill/injured must be awful, espec with so much in the offing. Euro, bravo on the school front - decisive action!

all well here - lovely group of english-speakig parents have adopted us for playdates, outings (evenings out for parents, too!) etc...just need to find a babysitter now ha ha! DS much happier with little friends to see throughout the week, plus going to a sort of weekly activity session run by a private leisure centre (extortionate!) which i'm hoping will build his confidence in terms of being spoken to in Italian, alongside other Italian children. i am fearful of how he will feel come Sept when he's in Materne and not understanding what is being said (maybe i underestimate small children's comprehension..i hope so!). any top tips for an elementary level Italian speaker to start introducing language to her 2 year old v welcome!!
i hope today sees sunshine for you all. (p.s. Golden Syrup...mmmm...just need to find porridge oats to go with it - i can't find them anywhere here!)

BananaGio · 02/02/2011 07:40

EC more Shock from me. Absolutely unbelievable. But well done for getting him out so promptly. Think you have definitely done the right thing, they seemed to have decided he didnt work at some point and left him in that box without doing anything to change it. Unreal.
Rosa I hope you're OK and managing to get some rest yourself. How are things? How are dd and mr? What about DD Sput? Responding to ABs?
