Hope everyone has started their 30 day challenge... let us know how you're getting on

Hi all -
Futurity, if you've already done a 10 mile run, you'll have no problem doing the half marathon.
I'm just getting back into my training after a LONG time out. All I can say is DON'T give up running after the half marathon and think it'll be easy to get back into - it soooo isn't! Even 2 weeks out makes a difference, and I had left it about 6 months!

Anne - yes, you are right, I had been doing the tennis incorrectly, and managed MUCH better this evening!

Burned 141 calories today, and really enjoyed the bicep curls, shoulder raises, etc. And even managed to enjoy the lunges, probably because I only got told off by the trainer 3 times instead of the usual 10 times, for wobbling!

Also managed to keep moderately coordinated on the dance warm up and cool down, which is a big achievement for me!

Hi Maggie - if you have just started on your 30 day challenge, lets keep each other company. I started on the official challenge with every one else, but then missed loads of days and have gone back to the start - today was day 3.

Does anyone else get really pissed off with the resistance band? I seem to take a while to get it untangled after each exercise.

AnnieShamrockInYourEar · 25/06/2009 10:58

Day 23 Wednesday, Workout 13.
Loads of inline skating (dull), frustrating high kicks -too slow, too slow... I can't go any faster!
The dancing wasn't very energetic by me.
Arm and shoulder exercise -good.
35 minutes, 136 calories.

Tigerbear, I find the resistance band gets all tangled too. And starting to get sticky...

To complete the 30 days I now have to do seven days in a row to catch up... uh oh...

Oh, didn't realise that you had to give the game back!
I won the actual Wii - hope they're not coming to claim it back (we bought a new flat screen TV so I could use it!).

futurity · 25/06/2009 15:27

we get to keep the game..that was my understanding anyway

Day 15 today...so hot and hard work even though I did it at 7.30am! Lots of inline and jumping around generally. Too hot to write anymore >

tigerbear · 25/06/2009 15:30

Uggh, those inline skating jumps are pure evil!

tigerbear · 25/06/2009 15:30

Uggh, those inline skating jumps are pure evil!

tigerbear · 25/06/2009 15:31

So evil that I posted twice!

Smalline · 25/06/2009 19:03

It would be nice if we were allowed to keep the game, I thought we had it on free trial for 30 days, then would have to decide whether we wanted to buy it or not, that was my understanding anyway.

futurity · 25/06/2009 22:06

Just looked at the original invitation and other emails and they refer to getting a "free copy of the product if you choose to take part in the 30 day challenge" and "... as recipients of a free copy of the product, it would be amazing if you could keep us and your fellow
Mumsnetter’s abreast of your progress on the Mumsnet forums and on your
blog/Twitter/Facebook or wherever you hang your hat online!". Haven't seen any reference to having to buy it afterwards. Haven't got the original letter that came with the game though.

Smalline · 25/06/2009 22:47

Ooh thanks futurity just looked at my emails and yes you are right, that teaches me to read the small print

Workout 15 tonight, I must admit I was a little disappointed with a few things! first of all the intensity, the last 2 workouts were in my opinion very hard, which I thought was great I couldn't wait for the next workout. However todays workout was mostly focused on arms and at the end of the session I felt that I hadn't really done much, so much so, I had to do one of my workout dvds afterwards, in order to feel like I had worked out, iykwIm! second, I found the Wii controls very annoying in this session, this was mostly during the toe touch side lunges, I was either being told to stand still in between the lunges, or, hold the lunge a bit longer, this made this exercise extremely slow and frustrating.

Just out of interest, are there any left handed testers out there? do most of the games appear to be right handed or is it just me?

AnnieShamrockInYourEar · 26/06/2009 11:08

Day 24 Thursday Workout 14.
Burned 126 calories, 35 minutes. Skipped two sets of jumping lunges - my poor knees, but impressively I was able to hold the holding squats for 1 minutes twice!
Inline skating DULL!

We definitely keep the game, as long as we blog it. I don't know if they come and take it back if we don't blog it though!

Smalline, I'm right-handed so I haven't noticed, but you do always have to hold the remote in your right hand, so I suspect for the tennis it might be harder. I also feel the diffference in intensity on different day, eg the other day I couldn't hold my squats at ALL.

6 days to go!!

futurity · 26/06/2009 20:28

I can't hold the squats at all...I cheat

I am left handed and I was a bit annoyed when I started that there wasn't an option to swap to left handed settings (like there is in Wii Sports the original game). However, I haven't really noticed it being a problem recently..I suppose I have got used to it.

squilly · 26/06/2009 20:39

I'm not part of the testing programme, but started using the disc a couple of weeks ago and I've replaced the resistance band with one from local sports shop. Only problem is it sometimes gets in the way of the remotes. It's not a great part of the game.

And I think tummy exercises should be standard...also the ability to add injuries/problem areas so exercises can be tailored around them.

Sorry if I shouldn't have posted this at all but I do love the game and it's got me to session 15 after 30-odd years of inactivity and I'm looking forward to 15 tomorrow.

Smalline · 27/06/2009 19:59

Hi squilly, I'm glad you are enjoying the game, you're right about the stomach exercises, I was surprised to find that there wasn't any!

Workout 16 yesterday, a good all rounder with a lots of emphasis on the legs, I find the dancing quite funny, I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but sometimes I find that it doesn't always register the moves on the left hand side, it?s either that or I am doing something wrong. Had a 6 min run, that was a first, usually it's only 3.

I don't know if anyone else feels the same, but I would have preferred it if there were some more fat burning exercises, I think the mistake I made when starting this challenge was to cut out all other exercises, I thought the challenge would be enough. However just over 3 weeks down the line and I have found that yes my arms do feel slightly more toned, but the rest of my body doesn?t, I now have 2 spare tyres around my middle and my clothes are feeling a lot tighter. Prior to this challenge I was doing Tae-Bo exercises regularly and kept in good shape, I suppose all I am trying to say is that if I had my time again, I would make sure that I continued my usual exercise routine alongside the sports challenge. Sorry about the long post

Smalline · 28/06/2009 10:02

Workout 17 today, lots of work on the upper body today with some lunges thrown in for the legs. I've got the hang of baseball now, I'm not brilliant but it's fun, got a bit mixed up with the arms, you're supposed to catch with the left and pitch with the right, I found myself trying to catch with the right at times and then couldn't pitch quick enough.

Only 3 more workouts to go.

Smalline · 29/06/2009 13:02

Workout 18 completed this morning, the arms & bands got a rest, whilst the legs did the work, squats, jumping squats, inline skating, more squats, jumping squats and inline skating, with some baseball & prancing dancing thrown in.

2 workouts left

AnnieShamrockInYourEar · 29/06/2009 13:20

Day 25 Friday REST
Day 26 Saturday REST

Hence I will not be able to complete the 30 day challenge in 30 days... Oh...

Day 27 Sunday Workout 15. So three days to go, and five workouts left.
I did it early morning, instead of late evening like I usually do, and found it much harder going... only burnt 80 calories, and it seemed to take forever... It didn't really help that the children were running around me grabbing my legs either.

Smalline, you're doing brilliant, you will finish in time! Well done.
Agree there should be more fat-burning exercises, eg longer runs I guess, but I'm happy with the overall toning up. Though I would have liked to lose a few lbs as well. Which I haven't.

Squilly, glad you are enjoying it! It is great, like me, I was very in-active, and it just gets me off my arse, even just for 20 minutes.

Futurity, I couldn't hold the squats first time, but the second time when we got two reps I could. I think it depends on how you are feeling tbh!

Has anyone tried to do two workouts in one day? I could just about squeeze the 20 in if I do that twice!

Smalline · 29/06/2009 14:26

I don't think you can do 2 workouts in one day Annie, I did try to once, but the only option I could see was to do the same days workout again, which isn't what you want is it? someone else might prove me wrong though.

Smalline you are right, it's the same workout again, so I guess it wouldn't count as the next workout.

Day 28 Monday Workout 16. Only 80 odd calories, and took about 25 minutes. I had to skip all jumping things, it bothers my knees, like you Ruby, but it was fine otherwise.

Two days and four workouts to go!!

Smalline · 30/06/2009 11:10

Lol Ruby, maybe I should be giving my nearly 48 year old knees a rest too, I've noticed some twinges in them recently when I go to sit down.

By the way where did those squats with calf raises come from? in all of my 30 years of exercising I have never come across those, well you learn something new everyday don't you

Ruby - I can go one better - I did it naked this morning!!

I missed 3 workouts in a row, so was a bit annoyed with myself. Friday's session was good, but I HATED the jump lunges (can anyone else do them without wobbling all over the place?). Anyone else noticed that when the 'trainer' gives feedback at the end of the session, it's totally wrong?
Like on that one, the feedback he gave was something like ; you were awesome on those jump lunges - great job!' - when that was the exercise I was worst at!

Today I burned 155 calories - I think my highest amount so far. LOVE the boxing and punch bag, and managed all of the targets. Still annoyed that there aren't any tummy exercises.

Everything else is toning up - and I'm getting arm muscles!
