Created for SOCKSHOP

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested SOCKSHOP’s bamboo socks for children aged 1-14.

Testers, you can now share your feedback! Please do so by responding to the questions below on this thread, as well as filling in the survey that we have emailed to you.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

All testers who leave the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher (from a list).

Here’s what SOCKSHOP has to say

“SOCKSHOP understands that sometimes small feet can be sensitive, and conventional toe seams and sock welts can be bulky and tight, often meaning tears and tantrums when it’s time to get dressed. Lessen the stress of your morning routine with our Kids’ Bamboo Socks with Smooth Toe Seams and Comfort Cuffs, designed to be super soft and comfortable against little feet and toes and much loved by kids and parents alike. A range of colours makes this selection of socks perfect for both school days and for playing at home.”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? How soft they were and the colour (bright red)
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Low key and looks sustainable, nice to see something with considerate packaging and no plastic
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? No
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? We have quite slidey floors so my 6 year old did slip a few times but he quite enjoyed it!
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? I think cool patterns and colours would be popular with my DC, especially if you could do Christmas ones or character ones
Poonique · 06/12/2021 16:20
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

The softness, around the tops especially. They didn’t mark his legs like elasticated cuffs-the main cause of him shedding his socks within an hour

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I really liked it. It had lovely illustrations, clearly advised all relevant information and was easily recycled.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
I really like the layout of the site.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Not a thing, they’re perfect.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
I would like to see some bright and bold patterns
Mummyoply · 06/12/2021 16:28
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

No seem and they were exceptionally soft.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Good, could be more eco friendly.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes, good, but limited stock
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

No, but we were sent white socks for my son to try and so it has taken us longer to trial them as he is not permitted to wear white socks to school or any of his activities. A dark colour would get more use.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Dark grey for school

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
He loved how smooth and stretchy they were, he said they're the bestest socks ever!
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Bigger than necessary. One pair arrived dirty (we got white socks) so maybe the envelope wasn't fully sealed?
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
It was fine
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
They're almost too stretchy....very comfy for my son but when trying to pull trousers like joggers down over them it's hard to get them to stay up.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
More patterns, animals etc
Candean · 06/12/2021 16:49
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
They had a lovely softness about them and stretched enough for my little ones feet - we struggle to find socks that are the right size and not too tight and these had a good amount of give in them but still didn’t slip down and magically disappear as do a lot of his socks!
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I liked it, it was nice to have patterned paper for a change rather than a plain boring parcel in the door - it makes it more exciting to receive. The socks have a card packaging which is easily recycled, I like that there was no plastic and it is environmentally friendly.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes, I thought their sock advent calendar was a brilliant idea for Christmas! I went on to see what other sizes and patterns they sell and was happy to see you can get bamboo socks in adult sizes too, have added bamboo socks to my Christmas wish list! The website is easy to navigate and well presented.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
I thought they were very well made, I think these might be my new favourite brand of socks! If I was going to change anything it might be to add some patterns - see my answer below.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
I would like some extra patterns maybe, the plain blue we got were lovely but my little boy does like to have a pattern and he makes a point of picking his socks to wear depending on which pattern he likes. There are other stripey bamboo socks but they were pink and the other ones I liked were the Thought Twinkle ones. Maybe some characters would be cute? My little boys favourite socks (albeit they didn’t fit great) were a pair that had a little bear face on them. The faces make getting dressed a hit more fun rather than a chore.

Overall I loved them, some people have said they bobbled a lot after a wash but I wash a low temperatures and haven't noticed too much bobbling at all - I actually thought they washed well. We had blue socks and they were a nice vibrant blue colour. I would buy from Sockshop in the future.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

My son is non verbal so he couldn't say specifically but to me they felt really soft. Much better than his normal socks.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

Liked it a lot.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Not yet but I will

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

No I really liked them!

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Any colours - will definitely buy ❤️

Glowlamp · 06/12/2021 17:03

The best thing about these socks is that they have no seams. My now 13 year old daughter was an absolute nightmare as a toddler when it came to socks! She would shout ‘they are struggling me’ which still amuses me. At 13 she lived these, comfy, no seams and really soft and comfy on the feet.
Ours were red, very festive!
Packaging on the socks is nice, the more recyclable the better.
I’ve had a quick look on the website and would buy more for myself and daughter as I tried them too!! Thanks so much.

Em1151 · 06/12/2021 17:23

. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

She liked the fit and that they were really soft. No seams was lovely and they were really comfy

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

Not great, struggled to get the socks off without catching them

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience

Not yet

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

Ours were all white, I would have different colours and patterns. The colour faded to grey quite quickly

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Pink or animals

BadlyWrittenPoem · 06/12/2021 17:54
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
They were comfortable.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
It seemed about average. Nothing particularly notable.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
No I haven’t.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The colour/style. They look like my husband’s socks and my daughter would have liked more colourful socks.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Yes! A variety of bright coloured patterns/stripes would be good.
vegum · 06/12/2021 19:22

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Good, nice to see paper packaging.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

The softness. They are silky soft but stay up and very comfortable to wear. My DD also said that she liked that the black colour goes with everything.

As I was very generously sent 5 pairs, I was able to test them along with DD and can confirm they are very soft and comfortable to wear.

DD has sensory issues and these are the socks she chooses above all others in her drawer and they sometimes even stay on once home. Most socks get taken off as soon as she no longer needs to wear them.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

My daughter liked the panda on the tag.

I liked that the packaging is easily recycled and looked nice.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Yes. It was easy to navigate around.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

They do seem to leave a lot of fluff.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

More colours and multipacks of various colours would be good. Patterns are fun for both adults and children but not characters or slogans. Definitely not days of the week.

Thanks for letting us try these socks. I have bought some of the bamboo tights to try and will definitely be buying more of the bamboo socks in the future. The offer of £4.99 for 5 pairs is good value for a nice product.

archaeoptyrx · 06/12/2021 23:08

Thank you for giving us a chance to try these. They have made mornings infinitely easier with my sock phobic eight year old. He loves them so much, he is even sleeping in a pair!

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
The feel of them, especially on the toes.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
No issues, quite environmentally sound.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Easy to use. We went back to order five more pairs!
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Some fraying out the top /loose threads on one sock after several washes.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
The feel is everything but we would happily buy more colours or designs

Thank you.

santabetterwashhishands · 07/12/2021 16:57

My daughter loved them she said they keep your feet warm but you don't feel like your wearing any.
She's being assessed for asd so believe me they must be comfortable or she would let me know!

SmellyOldOwls · 07/12/2021 17:36

Funny how quite a few of our children are sleeping in these. My son requests them for bed!

Agapornis · 07/12/2021 22:59

I have their adult bamboo socks, and unfortunately they're much lower quality than my other bamboo ones. They start to wear through on the toes within three months (washed 5x), and after 2 years they all have holes.

BlueTuesday20 · 09/12/2021 13:21

I forgot to enter this, BUT, having discovered bamboo socks earlier this year I ordered a load of grey ones for school from SS. My reason for spending a teensy bit more on them rather than the usual supermarket ones - we no longer have horrendously stinky feet, socks or shoes to deal with. Grin That alone makes them worth it, but alongside that, they are so soft, comfy and easy to put on. I won't be buying any others now I've discovered these at Sock Shop.

Badfootkk · 10/12/2021 08:11

Have to say I agree. I bought them a while back . Loved them . Told anyone who moaned about their socks, to buy them. When I recently purchased some more , they were really bad quality, honestly didn't last five minutes ! They wore thin with in two months.
toughtoes · 10/12/2021 11:00

@BlueTuesday20 we've had the sock shop ones in the past due to DS having dock issues with seams. They were very sweaty, the thing is bamboo socks are not like cotton ones. Saying bamboo is green washing to say they are natural, but they are semi- synthetic and blended with other things. But I'm not against it. But the socks are basically vicose and polyester.

Thanks so much to everyone who took part in this product test. The winner of the prize draw is @PinkLisianthus - congratulations!

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
Very soft wash really well.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Iirc came in a paper bag, so easy to recycle
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes, easy to navigate
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The colour I receives was an inobtrusive pale blue so not so something I would choose for a 6year old girl. The socks are huge I received a 12-3 and they fitted me...I am a size 7. The heel cup came half way up my 6 year olds leg.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Princess or girly stripes

All testers who leave

Intotheclouds · 15/01/2022 18:40

I got these socks through this test and was really happy with them. But I have noticed that 4 out of the 5 pairs we got have all gone thread bare on the bottom all ready. Obviously if I was too of paid for these I would be really annoyed that they hadnt lasted at the price they ask for them!

Redwinestillfine · 07/02/2022 19:57

Lovely and soft but they don't stay up. Mine kept disappearing down my boots which was really frustrating.

adagio · 07/02/2022 20:35

Well I missed the trial, didn’t even know about it until I saw this pinned post. I purchased some as stocking fillers and the kids love them! Super soft and comfy in nice colours, wash well with no shrinking. I genuinely recommend (well clearly, as I paid top whack for them 😂).

MrsS92 · 10/02/2022 22:26

These are the only socks my daughter will wear, unfortunately my last order 2 of the 3 pairs had holes in when they arrived and the last pair have acquired a hole within a few weeks.
No answer from customer services, quite disappointed as the socks weren’t cheap!

littlefaith · 03/03/2022 16:11

After 4 months (?) we also have a couple of holes...so incredibly soft but perhaps not very durable?
