Created for SOCKSHOP

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested SOCKSHOP’s bamboo socks for children aged 1-14.

Testers, you can now share your feedback! Please do so by responding to the questions below on this thread, as well as filling in the survey that we have emailed to you.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

All testers who leave the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher (from a list).

Here’s what SOCKSHOP has to say

“SOCKSHOP understands that sometimes small feet can be sensitive, and conventional toe seams and sock welts can be bulky and tight, often meaning tears and tantrums when it’s time to get dressed. Lessen the stress of your morning routine with our Kids’ Bamboo Socks with Smooth Toe Seams and Comfort Cuffs, designed to be super soft and comfortable against little feet and toes and much loved by kids and parents alike. A range of colours makes this selection of socks perfect for both school days and for playing at home.”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

How comfortable they are. She's nearly 3 and unprompted after having them on about an hour said to me "Daddy gave me new socks. They're very comfy". So I asked her if she preferred them over her normal socks and she was most emphatic that she did. She regularly chooses them over her colourful dinosaur socks.

From my perspective they are very soft, fit well and wash well.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

I liked it - it was simple and, most importantly, it was recyclable,

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Yes, to see what styles etc. were available. Nice website, easy to find what I want and good filters.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

No.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

More colourful patterned options. Most colour options are just a block colour. Kids like dinosaurs/unicorns/hearts/spots etc.

As an additional note - I've been wearing sock shop bamboo socks for years. I'm delighted I'll now be able to get them for my daughter.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

The thickness was just right. She also liked the colour (bright pink) although that meant she couldn't trial them for school. On first wear she was impressed by the softness - she finds most clothes 'scratchy'.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

All I recall is the cardboard thing that connects the socks. I'm not sure if I can form an opinion on a cardboard connector. I think it arrived in a plastic bag so would be better if it came in cardboard I suppose.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

No.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

My dd found the socks comfortable the first wear. She found they did slip down when she wore wellies/winter boots though and this was intensely irritating when out and about. She does have very slim legs so perhaps why, but she doesn't tend to have this problem with most socks.

On first wear dd loved these socks. I am a busy mum though, I work full time and about 50 hours a week so I have 0 patience for washing and drying clothes according to instructions. Everything goes in a 40 degree wash and then in the dryer if it's winter. So naturally these went into the dryer. They faired ok but the softness was definitely a little compromised - we also live in a very hard water area which batters clothes no matter what you add to the wash. DD still wears the socks after washing (other brands she may decide not to wear again as they become 'scratchy') but not sure how many washes they'd last before the scratchiness kicked in. I didn't read the washing instructions so perhaps they shouldn't have gone in the dryer, but as I say, I'm busy, I have no patience for draping socks to dry.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

We only got sent very vivid pink, not sure if it was because I'd indicated she was a girl. Luckily she does like pink but school colours (black, white) would be more useful.

Thank you for the socks! Overall they are lovely socks, I think time will tell on the washing front and we just need to remember they're not good for winter walks with boots.

Mittenmob · 27/11/2021 06:47

Reading the other responses I clearly mis-remembered the packaging. Perhaps that's what happens when you order 3 million parcels a day, oops!

Intotheclouds · 27/11/2021 09:34

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
No
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
I haven't had chance to look in the online shop so you may already do them, but socks with a design on them eg. Animal faces or prints etc.
cameocat · 28/11/2021 08:41
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
They have stopped have stopped his feet itching which has been a problem for years.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Love that it fully recyclable
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? I have now and will be ordering some things for stockings.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
No, honestly they're brilliant and my son loves them. He's been recommending them to lots of people!
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
As my son is getting a bit older he is outgrowing some of the patterns and stripes he used to wear so we are happy with current offering although some fun stripes might be cool.
RagzReturnsRebooted · 28/11/2021 12:34

1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
Soft, not annoying seams.
2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I didn't really pay attention to the packaging, but I do remember recycling it, so that's good.
3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Not until I went to write this. Had a quick look and was surprised at how reasonable the prices are. Delighted to see bamboo knee high socks, I will be buying these.
4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
DD said they weren't quite as soft on the inside as the outside. DD didn't like the colour (bright blue) so hasn't worn them much, but I will be buying her some in better colours and knee high.
5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
No, the range is better than I expected.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 28/11/2021 12:37

Oh, I would add bigger sizes in the knee high ones, as they only go up to 5.5 and DD is already 5.5 at 11!

ducktape · 28/11/2021 13:15
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
They're so comfortable and silky
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I really liked the paper packaging (actually I even kept it for reuse) .
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
No, I haven't, but I suppose I should!
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
dd would like them to stay pulled up / bigger cuff, (like sports socks) but I suppose that's not really the main intended design feature of these comfort cuff ones.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
we had plain black to test. I've now had a look on the website to see the other other colours, looks like the comfort socks are only in plain colours, some spots or stripes with nice bright colours would be good.
Madcats · 28/11/2021 15:16
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
The seams (you can't feel them)! We also liked the fact that they were not tight around the calf.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
They came in a firm brown paper-printed bag that could go straight into the recycling. I am not sure how it would fare in a downpour but we can't recycle jiffy bags here.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test?
If so, how did you find the experience? I wasn't really aware that Sockshop existed until we tested these socks. They have a good range of things online - and a big bamboo range.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
I made sure that we just tested a couple of pairs and washed them multiple times. They did bobble quite a bit after a couple of washes and tended to ride down if wearing boots.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
I am surprised they don't stock bottle green colour for school. It would be good to stock much larger sizes (up to adult 8 or 9)

Thank you for letting us test size 4-51/2 red socks

marplemead · 29/11/2021 09:04
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
The smooth toe seams, and softness.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I liked the socks were not packaged in unnecessary plastic, and that it was minimal & recyclable.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
My daughter asked for some more black for socks for school, and it was pretty straightforward to order.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
They have bobbled after a few washes.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
We tested the black socks, which were great for school. The navy pair was not a true navy, and looked almost black. Some patterned options would be a good addition for casual wear.
tandt5 · 29/11/2021 09:31
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
The socks were super soft and smooth. They were seamless and my DD loved the fact the cuffs didn't dig in or irritate.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? The packaging was environmentally friendly (albeit on a big side for the size of the socks). Would prefer an alternative to plastic tags as my DD nearly ripped the socks trying to pull them apart.
  2. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Yes, it was an enjoyable experience and I spent a long time browsing for Christmas presents and stocking fillers ideas.
  3. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? No.
  4. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? possibly thicker winter socks for walking boots/wellies
Chambord1 · 29/11/2021 20:52
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
We all loved how soft they were. DD has worn them and I have also tried them.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Nice, non plastic packaging.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
No, haven't looked at website
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
I did find that they went a bit baggy and loose over the day but washed up well.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
School colours always good and trainer socks.
mowglika · 29/11/2021 20:54
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

They were really soft, and the lack of seams was a plus. They washed very well.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

Minimal and recyclable elements. I don’t like the plastic tag as my son pulled it off and left a small hole in one pair of the socks.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Great website, lots of choice

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

They could be a little thicker - not sure how long they will last as my son is hard on his socks.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Kids themes and school uniform colours. Also Simple designs.

WilsonandNoodles · 30/11/2021 03:34
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
He said they were cosy with no itchy bits
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Nothing exciting but not offensive either.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Its quite easy to navigate and plenty of attractive pictures to get me browsing. I didn't buy anything so can't comment beyond the initial browse.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The sock material was good but the manufacturing poor. 3 of the pairs had socks that weren't the same size and 2 arrived marked. Although my son liked having no seams I wouldn't buy the socks again as they just didn't stay on. Also we had white socks and after one wash they looked a bit yellow ( only white things in the machine and it happened with pairs across two different loads
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Welly socks and patterns
Sparklystar · 30/11/2021 04:09

1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
How soft they were, first thing we both said

2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
It was great, fully recyclable , unlike a lot of companies

3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes we have to look at what other type/ styles of socks they offer. Found it really easy to navigate and find exactly what we wanted

4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
No these are the first socks my daughter has worn without any complaint, she has only worn these since we were sent them.

5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
We would like trainer style socks as this is what my daughter mainly wears af the moment

cantbeforeal · 30/11/2021 06:41
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
How soft they were and that they were plain black as that’s what he likes
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Good packaging
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes it was easy to navigate
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
They bobbled a lot after first wear and they were quite thin so I’d like to see thicker ones
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Ones with cute animals on for younger kids
Goingovertosusanshouse · 30/11/2021 09:03
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? They were so soft and perfect for school
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Lovely, not too much.
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Very easy, lovely range
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? No
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? Pastel and autumn colours!
littlefaith · 30/11/2021 22:00
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

To be honest, she doesn't usually have strong opinions on socks and didn't with these ones. She is (an immature) 14 and we had bright pink socks to test. She lived the softness though, and they actually seemed softer after washing.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

I don't really remember the actual sock labels. However the ecofriendly paper jiffy bag was appreciated. Hate the plastic tags through socks though as I can't help myself from snapping them instead of cutting and end up with little holes!

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

No, I haven't.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

I would like patterned, Striped, spotty socks. Socks with animals, dinosaurs etc. Why have plain socks when you could have patterned?!

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Thicker socks for walking boots and wellies perhaps. These types of socks are often less soft so bamboo would be a good option.

BookShop · 01/12/2021 13:15

1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
DD loved how soft they were. She was impressed that the seam although not invisible was very slight.

2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Great. Lovely to see them simply displayed and packaged.

3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes. It was easy to navigate and the options for socks was vast. I liked the colours and designs.

4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The navy and black were very similar! We had trouble pairing them up unless in daylight. No change needed just FYI.

5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
We would love white running socks and a range of quirky bright colours for kids. Perhaps a massive multipack as well with 15 pairs of socks in a mixed bag.

onedream · 01/12/2021 17:02
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
My son loved how soft they were, they were not too thick but still kept his feet nice and warm. No sweaty feet, his feet were lovely and dry, cozy and warm. After few washes they still look and feel the same, no bobbling or loosing fibres as sometimes regular cotton socks can do.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Packaging was nice, eco friendly and adequate to the product.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
I did as I wondered what other colours or prints they are in these bamboo socks. Website is easy to navigate and easy to use.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Just to have more kids themed prints in the bamboo version of these socks.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Just the regular kids themes, animals, transport, nature, etc. Would be good to see some gentle neutral baby socks too, would definitely buy those.
Cubeagsnog · 01/12/2021 19:14
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
He absolutely loved how soft, warm and comfortable they were. He doesn't like wearing other socks now.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
Not very memorable, but liked that it was recyclable.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Briefly. It seemed fine, though was slow to load (for me anyway).
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Nothing at all, they're really great.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Maybe some stripes?
ChessieFL · 01/12/2021 19:52
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

They were really soft; and nice and stretchy

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

I can’t remember anything about the packaging, so must have been pretty standard.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Haven’t used the website

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

No

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

We had black ones to test, don’t know what other colours are available. DD was happy with black because she could wear them to school.

TheTempest · 02/12/2021 15:18
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? How soft and comfy they are.
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Yes was nice, seemed quite eco friendly but a little boring.
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Yes, good website and I bought some more socks (for me this time!)
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? Brighter colours
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? The socks we got were grey, good for school but it would be nice to have some patterns on them.

Thanks for letting us try the socks, they are super comfy and I even borrowed a pair as DD raves about them 😊

Kochicoo · 02/12/2021 18:26
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? She loved how soft they were and I loved that we didn't have a single complaint about putting them on.
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Good, recyclable, no complaints.
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Yes. Good website, easy to navigate. Will be ordering more bamboo socks for different family members.
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? Not a thing!
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? All the styles/colours looked good. We got dark grey to try and they were perfect for school but would buy bright coloured ones for weekends and would like white for summer at school. Maybe white ones with a frill for summer school socks?
Vanillabourbon · 02/12/2021 22:35

What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
Very comfy, no marks on skin around the top.

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Great that they were in eco friendly packaging, not so great the postman left them outside my front door in the rain so the package was pretty soggy!
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Easy to navigate website, quite a good range.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
They did leave alot of fluff on the carpet (even after several washes) one pair out of the five had a small hole after one wash, not sure if this was due to poor stiching as it was right on top of the toe so not caused by shoes etc.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Slipper socks/welly socks
