Created for SOCKSHOP

This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested SOCKSHOP’s bamboo socks for children aged 1-14.

Testers, you can now share your feedback! Please do so by responding to the questions below on this thread, as well as filling in the survey that we have emailed to you.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

All testers who leave the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher (from a list).

Here’s what SOCKSHOP has to say

“SOCKSHOP understands that sometimes small feet can be sensitive, and conventional toe seams and sock welts can be bulky and tight, often meaning tears and tantrums when it’s time to get dressed. Lessen the stress of your morning routine with our Kids’ Bamboo Socks with Smooth Toe Seams and Comfort Cuffs, designed to be super soft and comfortable against little feet and toes and much loved by kids and parents alike. A range of colours makes this selection of socks perfect for both school days and for playing at home.”

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

Really pleased to get the socks to test! My DD has some sensory issues related to her disability and has always hated the feeling of socks. When she was little we used to leave a trail of them behind us wherever we went! Like a PP said, these socks are a genuine godsend for kids with sensory issues Flowers

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

I liked that they have less packaging than some socks - just a simple recyclable piece of card and plastic tie.

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

I had a look as will be ordering more of these. 10% discount on first purchase is a bonus. Seems easy to search and navigate but haven't yet made a purchase to comment on ease of use there

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

No! Literally nothing - only wish they been around years ago Grin

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Not sure about design for smaller kids as DD is a bit older but really hoping there will eventually be a wider range of adult styles and colours to choose from. Personally I also dislike the feeling of wearing socks and they've always made my feet itch. Bamboo is a lovely, soft material and they seem to wash well so far.

Thanks for the opportunity to test these Smile

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
DS (4) LOVED the fact there were no 'sore bits' (seams) at the toes and commented on it immediately after putting them on.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I cant remember the packaging.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes, had a peak to check out prices incase I want to buy more in the future. I'd change the delivery pricing to free to compete with the likes of amazon.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
I didnt find the band at the top held particularly well, but DS has quite thin legs which may be why.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Some funky kids designs
undercoverhero74 · 23/11/2021 19:44
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? He loved the panda on the label and the bright colour of the socks
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
It was small and only used the necessary amount needed so I was pleased with that.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
I have taken a look and was surprised by the amount of products they sell and the variety that is available. It was easy to navigate and add items to my basket.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
I would probably like to see more designs. From what I can see all the socks are a plain solid colour.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

As stated above I think some cute designs or multicoloured socks would be a hit. I know my son loves anything with cars/rainbows/characters and would pick these over the the plain socks any day.
Also thicker winter socks for wellies/boots would be great

Beach11 · 23/11/2021 20:09
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? How soft they felt and that didn't cause sweaty uncomfortable foot.
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Great that it can be recycled but size of packaging was too big.
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Yes, it was easy to navigate and see the range of products.
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? No, loved everything about these socks.
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? Socks with patterns or pictures on to appeal to children.

We loved these socks and will definitely be buying more in the future.

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
How soft they were!
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I like the packaging. Felt simple but special.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Not yet no.
  2. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Our socks were all one colour so would like to see some patterned styles.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Yes brighter patterns and colours.
Elpheba · 23/11/2021 20:57
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
These were for my 3 year old but they actually fitted my 5 year old too so she tried them as well. The elder one commented on how soft they were. I thought the same, seemed noticeably softer than others.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I can’t remember the packaging! The brown labels on the socks themselves were fine- good they were recyclable but would expect nothing less.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Yes, easy to navigate.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
In terms of the test I think I’d have been able to persuade my son to wear them more if we hadn’t only received bright pink ones! But other than that, I think they’re great. They did occasionally slip off- I think I’m used to them being tighter around the top.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
My DC love patterns. Maybe some thicker ones or ones with grippers on the bottom.
ButtonMoonLoon · 23/11/2021 21:16
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
She keeps saying how soft they are and loves the fact they don’t have seams on the toes. I have to say they are the best socks I’ve ever found for children with sensory needs.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Nice. Appeared quite environmentally friendly from a packaging point of view
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes- to order more of these socks in several different colours. We also bought some as Christmas gifts as I was impressed at the range available for both adults and children. We did experience a slight website glitch; our entire order simply disappeared at one point but we started again and managed to complete the order without any issues.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
Nothing at all!
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
My daughter suggested that some with non slip pads on the bottom would be good- kind of like slipper socks
Glendaruel · 23/11/2021 21:31
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
They were nice and soft.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
Liked the brown paper bag, I could recycle it.
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
There seems to be a great selection.
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The sample I was sent were too big for my little one and were all black. I like to put her in bright colours. The big thing for me is socks that stay in her feet, as she is at the stage of moving around and socks dropping off.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
For the younger ones nice bright colours, grips on bottom are useful and a design that keeps socks on for as long as possible.
Thorilicious · 23/11/2021 22:12

What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? How comfortable they were for him

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Standard packaging, didn't jump out at me.

  3. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? No, they did exactly what they needed to do .
  4. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Some character type socks would be amazing!
PashleyB · 23/11/2021 22:24
  1. No seams on the toes. The socks were also very stretchy so easy to put on
2.packaging was fine though not especially distinctive
  1. I have not used the website
  2. The socks came up a little big, but that wasn't a big problem. Though it did mean some socks were appropriated by the older sibling not testing them!
  3. Bright cheerful socks are generally a good thing :)
wellingtonsandwaffles · 23/11/2021 22:39
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

Smooth and easy to put on with no toe seams! Plain dark colour meant he could wear to school.

I appreciate the fact they are all the same so don’t need matching after washing!

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

Eco friendly, attractive, simple and easy to take off

  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?

Easy to navigate. Good product descriptions

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

My DS is a size 10.5/11 and the heel of the 9-12 was quite big / up towards the ankle. The tops of the socks went very high up the legs too. Good for winter, won’t be as good for other seasons.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Winter / welly socks

JimbosJetSet · 24/11/2021 06:04
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
The softness of the socks and the lack of seam at the toes
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
I don't remember the packaging! So it can't have been anything too remarkable (or awful)
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
I haven't, but I would do in the future to buy more of these particular socks
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
The colour wasn't our favourite but I assume there is lots of choice if purchasing them.
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
My son (9) would be happy with plain blue socks every day - if he was younger and I was choosing then I'd like packs of rainbow coloured socks.
Passmealargewine · 24/11/2021 06:31
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? - they were lovely and soft and washed well. My little boy has been wearing the grey ones for school so those especially have been washed a few times already. Ocasionally when walking to school he will make me stop & take his shoe off to move the seam from his toes but I've had no problem with these socks.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? - I really liked the packaging, was easy to open
  1. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? - I havnt yet but would have a look when I need to buy more socks
  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? - I can't think of anything, we really liked them
  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? - fluffy bed socks would be good
BoobsOnTheMoon · 24/11/2021 06:45

1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? Initially, the colour - red is his favourite at the moment! But then he touched them and went "oooooOOOOooooo" Grin DS is 11 and autistic with sensory processing disorder, and clothes are a Big Problem here, socks in particular. We have hard water and no tumble drier which doesn't help, as socks tend to go "crunchy" after a few washes and DS then can't bear to touch them. He put these ones on with exclamations of joy, and even after a few washes they're still as soft as they started. DS has named them "no-socks" because he can't feel them on his feet, and we are now replacing all his socks with more of these.

2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Very nice, brown paper envelope and pretty much no plastic. I approve.

3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? Yes, to buy more of the socks also rainbow ones for me Good website and surprisingly excellent value. I hadn't looked at SockShop since I was a teenager to be honest, and was impressed.

4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? Nope, they're just about perfect

5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? DS would like to know why the rainbow ones aren't made in kids sizes? And I'd like to suggest you make tights with the same fabric and toe seams, in kids and adult sizes please!

Etihad · 24/11/2021 07:51

Photo to go with review: showing how DD used the socks (wears AFOs on both legs all day) please note slight thread that came loose on one of them the first time she wore them - but this only happened on one sock out of the ten (excuse bare floorboards Grin

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?

Definitely the soft feeling, he put them on and said 'they're soft and cosy', he's not too keen on bulky clothing so he loves these. They're really lightweight. He normally takes off his shoes and socks when he comes home but he even wears these socks to bed.

Nicely packaged, no excess packaging, seems quite eco friendly.

Not a thing. They're brilliant.

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
Rainbow stripes. Grey for school, but with bright colored bits on the bit that goes inside the shoe.
PinotAndPlaydough · 24/11/2021 21:01
  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? Just the fact they were so comfortable, I didn’t have to adjust the seam once, she was able to put them on her self and they didn’t dig in at the top. These socks are now called “the comfy socks” in our house.
  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? Simple no fuss packaging that was easy to open.

My DD’s favourite thing about the socks was that they were soft, comfortable and warm she has been wearing them constantly and even sleeps in them! Smile

  1. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?

I loved the packaging. Very environmentally friendly and felt quite special and nice to open.

I haven’t visited the website but will do so after testing these socks as we were really impressed with the quality.

  1. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?

Absolutely nothing at all, as I said above DD wears them all of the time apart from when she is at school!

  1. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?

Black or Navy knee high socks would be great and we would absolutely buy these for school as the quality and comfort would mean that they would be very popular among primary and secondary school DC.

Once again another great product test! Thank you Mumsnet Smile

  1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks? They were very soft and comfortable
  2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived? It was good - not too much waste
  3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience? No I didn’t
  4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change? No
  5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks? Yes - some different patterns would be great
CatkinToadflax · 25/11/2021 09:49

1. What was your/your child's favourite thing about the socks?
That they are so, so soft and comfortable and don't dig in on the seams or tops like many other socks do. DS says "are you going to quote me - OK then - they are so soft and velvety on my tootsies". Hmm Grin

2. What did you think of the packaging in which the socks arrived?
DS didn't really have an opinion but I love the paper packaging. Stylish and so much better for the environment than plastic packaging.

3. Have you visited the SOCKSHOP website over the course of the test? If so, how did you find the experience?
Yes, whilst filling in this questionnaire now. I loved SockShop as a teenager back in the '90s but I'd completely forgotten about the brand until this product test came up. There's a good range of socks and other products on the website - I was impressed.

4. Is there anything about the socks that you would change?
No.

5. Are there any additional colours or styles that you think would be a good addition to SOCKSHOP's range of kids' bamboo socks?
It would definitely be good to have a wider range of colours and patterns. We generally buy patterned socks in this house so that we know whose are whose!
