This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing Homepride Slow Cooker concentrated sauces. The sauces are available in Chilli Con Carne, Chicken Curry, Beef & Ale or Pulled Pork flavours.

The only two flavours stocked in our Tesco were the chicken curry and the chilli con carne, so that’s what we tested. I cooked them for myself and 3 boys (25, 23 & 14)

1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?

They were so easy to do. Pop it all in the slow cooker before lunch and it was ready for dinner.

1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

The boys liked the flavours and all thought it made a good sized serving. They said the curry could have been hotter but was still very good.

1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes. It’s a handy sized packet to keep in the cupboard and very easy to use. I don’t use my slow cooker enough as I never know what to make and I’m not very organised but this was so easy I would do it again.

1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

I would like a peppercorn sauce. I used to buy it in a jar but it’s discontinued. Perhaps a spicier curry too.

I liked not having to add water. Slow cooker sauces can be too liquid but these were just right.

They liked the best and ale one I think it had the nicest flavour. The chicken curry was ok, but a bit bland

Yes they're a good standby for a weekday meal

Something a bit Chinese lemon chicken perhaps

1. The Curry sauce was simple to use and prepare, with very little ingredients to add so included some peppers. I did feel the amount of sauce was quite meagre for the price.
2. I could only find the Curry sauce in the shops that we went to (I'm avoiding any unnecessary shopping trips), but didn't enjoy it - there was an underlying sweetness to the sauce that I found quite unpleasant, although my husband liked it.
3. Based solely on this particularly sauce, I wouldn't be able to recommend them.
4. I would like to try Beef & Ale.

I have since managed to find the Chilli sauce so will come back and comment again when I have used it.

They were very easy to use and a good consistency for the slow cooker.

They liked the flavour of the children one.

Yes - a real time saver for a family meal.

Ones to go with other traditional family meals eg stroganoff, bolognaise etc.

1. I liked the easiness and size of packet. Just right amount for me and DD.
2. Favourite with family was the beef and ale. I could only get hold of that and the pulled pork one.
3. Yes I would definitely recommend it. Very easy to use.
4. I'd like to see some cajun type sauce or Mexican inspired sauce.

Despite trying three different supermarkets I still haven't been able to find the sauces available.

I'll keep trying but am aware the feedback deadline was today.

I could find any of the flavours in my local Tesco unfortunately 😞😞

This is my feedback for the chicken curry flavour.

1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
Honestly? Nothing. As the chicken and onion had to be cooked before going in the slow cooker I didn't feel that the packet saved any time. I could have made a spice mix/sauce whilst they were cooking and had more flavour.

2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? DS2 said it was "nice"

3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
No unless they were very new to cooking because I think it's easy to get a better tasting meal cooking from scratch.

4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? having tried 2 now and been unimpressed with them both i don't think I'd be interested in trying any more.

And as a general comment. Whilst the pouches are good in terms of space, and would be lighter to carry home than a jar, I prefer jars as they can be recycled and the pouches can't.

For a packet sauce these were nice. We had beef and ale and chicken curry.

Made a lot for just me and DD, she preferred the chicken curry however I would prefer more spice.

1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes and no. Yes for those that do not cook regularly or for a quick fix to have on hand for the end of the month. No-limited flavour profile and easier to chuck in fresh products.

Some sort of creamy garlic sauce or more flavoursome Mexican dishes. More spice to curries.

Nice flavour (chicken curry) and only a few ingredients needed to make.

Tasted good and the house smelt lovely all day while it was cooking!

Only to people who are not confident with cooking, or new to using a slow cooker. Really it wasn't much easier than making a dish from scratch, seeing as you have to brown the meat and onions anyway.

Chicken and white wine or a bolognese/meatball sauce

Quick easy to use, good depth of flavour.

Really easy to throw few things in slow cooker and let it do its thing . Results taste great

Maybe a creamy sauce

They weren't in stock in Sainsbury's or Tesco, unfortunately.

2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? They absolutely loved the Pulled Pork one. The gravy was eagerly mopped up with bread!
3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why? I would recommend the ones we tried (Chilli and Pulled Pork) They both make planning nutritious meals very easy.
4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? I'd love to see a curry flavour, definitely for vegetarians/vegans - maybe a dhansak - (something with a bit of oomph) Something that would encourage people to make a lentil based dish or at least substitute part of the meat content.

Thai or different curries

1, I liked the ease of use and the concentration of the sauce mix resulting in food that wasn’t too watery

2, It was very quick to prepare and resulted in tasty food without the “metallic” kind of taste I always seem to get from my slow cooker.

3, I would recommend the sauce when sold for £1 on offer but at £1:80 no - I think that’s poor value for money.

4, I struggled to find these sauces at all, then could only find pulled pork and beef and ale. I would like to try a sausage casserole and a sweet and sour or honey/ginger type sauce. I would also like to try a range of curry sauces .

4. Something creamy

I tested the pulled pork one (couldn't find the Beef and Ale on in the shops).

1. The taste was great and it was easy and convenient to put it in the slow cooked and leave it - the smell when it was cooking was great.

1. The flavour was a bit hit and I liked the fact I could just leave it to cook.

1. Yes, I would recommend it.

1. I'd like to see a Moroccan lamb flavour.

One thing I think could be improved was the instructions. I cook a lot but had to check on the internet what 'trimmed' pork meant. Also it's not clear whether you shred the pork in the cooking juices or not.

Lovely flavour and easy to make. Convenient to do the work in the morning rather than evening when the kids are tired and more demanding.

Nice flavour, good sized portions and the ease means I am willing to go a step further and make into a pie, which I wouldn't have done if I was making it from scratch.

1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Yes for sure! Why? as they are so simple and convention. I am a busy mum to boys and so.time is very precious to me.

I loved knowing that with everything going on at the moment, a nice dinner (that isn’t freezer tapas) is possible. The sauces made tasty meals and they were really convenient and easy to use.

My 6 year old still struggles to eat meat that is dry (as in cooked without sauce). He wolfed these down and really enjoyed them. The meat is lovely and tender and the sauces we tried were all really tasty. The curry was ds’s favourite and dd loved the pulled pork.

1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes I would because they are lovely meals and they are convenient. They were popular with everyone in my family and I will be buying them again so I would be happy to recommend them.

I’d love different curry flavours or bbq chicken.

Unfortunately I couldn't find them in my local supermarket but Post covid when I go further afield I will definitely try them.

So easy to use with bags of flavour without taking loads of prep time. Also was able to prop at the beginning of the day instead of the end when I’m exhausted by home-schooling

We tried the beef and ale. The flavours were great even for young children.

Saves time but maximum flavour and added veg!

Very easy to use with plenty of flavour. I did all the prep at breakfast time instead of the end of the day when I’m exhausted by home-schooling and work.

1. They were easy and quick to use. The packets have a long use by date. The preparation can be done well in advance.
2. Our favourite was the beef and ale - tasted just like a home cooked traditional meal.
3. I would recommend the sauces to others.
4. I would like to see a creamy tomato sauce for chicken.
