This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Fairy Non Bio Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “We want to reach out to all of the mums and dads out there who are faced with a daily everest of dirty laundry and are the best judge of what works… and what doesn’t. We want to put our products to the test and see if they’re still the best for a family’s needs.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, plus giving any other feedback you’d like to share:

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
  2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
  3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

All testers who give their feedback on this thread and complete a short survey about their experience will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck!

I wanted to use this product as my dd has eczema and I’ve read that non bio can help. I’m using it with an extra rinse on an allergy cycle and happy with this and wouldn’t use anything else now. I don’t use the fabric softener though as I’ve also read that this isn’t good for dd with eczema. I do like that there’s no over powering scents

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the easy to measure cap, although I found I had to use much more than recommended to get a good wash. It wasn't able to remove stains very well, although when used with vanish powder it was fine.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would purchase them again if a good price was available, more likely to buy the fabric conditioner than the liquid. Much prefer the gel or tabs instead!!

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would recommend the non bio range, but not particularly these products.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested?
It cleaned my clothes! Now you may think, I'm staying the bleeding obvious, but it's true, my clothes came out the washer nice n clean, and using the conditioner, smelt really nice. 1A, Is there anything you think would make them better? Maybe a range of conditioner smells?
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Complete 10/10 especially for babies. Babies I feel, need very gentle washing products, but ones that really clean.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Of course I would. I have a couple friends who have sensitive skin, who would really benefit from this.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I like that the liquids were easy to pour and the dosing cap was easy to see and use. Very good at removing stains. I didn't like the scent of either, I found them very chemically and artificial smelling
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Due to the scent it's unlikely I purchase either in the future.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I would for stain removal and ease of use but I would mention the scent.

1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I thought they had a really nice fresh smell. It was so lovely when I did all the bedding and all the fresh sheets were on - it smelt lovely all though my upstairs.

I have always used Fairy as is it seems to be the best for my skin, (whenever I've been crazy enough to try another brand on special offer I have come out in a rash), and had been using the caplets previously to this trial. I will probably now switch from the caplets as I really liked the cap which you put straight in the drum of the machine. It had a measuring gauge on the side as to how much liquid you needed as per the load size. This was by far more economical than putting just one capsule in the wash as a one size fits all, when sometimes you do have a smaller wash as you need stuff quicker (I'm looking at you special teddy bear ds4 can't sleep without). I much prefer using liquid to powder as I find powder can get clogged up in the machine drawer and need taking out and cleaning every so often.

The fabric conditioner had a little lid as well to pour the liquid into before putting in the machine, which is better than glugging staight into the machine as sometimes I've tipped it into the other compartments, it did seem a bit watery but actually it did the job.

Clothes were fresh and clean when they were done, plus no girly flowery smells (my 8 year olds words) that would have annoyed my 2 ds (4 and 8) There was no lingering marks or stains after the wash. Everything felt lovely and soft as well, especially my towels.

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Yes I will be buying the liquid version of the detergent from now on.

3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes, I would recommend fairy as a brand anyway as I feel it's better for sensitive skins, especially children, but I love the liquid detergent and the lovely fresh smell. Honestly it was better than lighting a scented candle when the bedding was all done and put on the beds.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
As others have said I really like thedosing cap. It makes it easy to measure and I like the smell of the liquid. The only unfortunate thing was that the clothes didn’t have a distinct clean smell which I like with clothes but I’m not sure if this is just because it is a gentle product so not much scent used
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would purchase. Possibly not at full price though. I usually add a capful of zoflora for extra scent

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
would recommend to others as it is gentle for the families skin and easy to use
SeaGreenSeaGlass · 17/12/2018 20:34
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the products. I usually use powder, and like that the powder container is recyclable cardboard. I realise its harder to avoid plastic containers for liquids.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I liked them and would consider them vs my usual powder.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I'd recommend them to families with sensitive skin, like mine.
Babycarmen · 17/12/2018 20:36
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the dosing cap. I wasn’t too keen on the smell I think it smells too clinical. It was really good for my eldest daughter who has very sensitive skin though.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
If it was on offer I might, only because it didn’t effect my daughters skin like most others and I do prefer liquid detergents.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I would recommend to them if they had issues with sensitive skin but I wouldn’t particularly shout about it otherwise.
PizzaAndChips · 17/12/2018 20:41
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked that the recommended dosages included a larger load, as with babies, you usually have lots of washing so need the bigger dose! I would like to experience stronger scents with the finished products, however. I couldn’t really smell much at all.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I would purchase the products if on offer, but to be honest, I don’t find them to be any better or worse than the supermarkets’ own brands. The offer would have to be very competitive.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes, for those with babies or family members with sensitive skin types. I wouldn’t recommend based on the final scent alone, even though, in the bottle, it smells lovely!
Shireslass · 17/12/2018 20:44
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
Gentle on the skin, cleaned clothes well. Perhaps a slightly lighter fragrance- I personally am super sensitive to smells.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Will most definitely be purchasing, I liked the product and I am happy to use it on my daughter’s clothes.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes, it lasted really well- a little truly does a long way.
VioletPickles · 17/12/2018 20:55

I actually really liked these products and would definitely buy again. I really liked the smell and the softness of the clothes. Cleaning wise they worked as well as most washing liquids, pretty good.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 17/12/2018 21:00
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the smell - laundry smelt clean and fresh but it wasn’t overpowering. Seemed to clean reasonably well.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I might purchase the detergent if the price was right, but probably the conditioner
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Possibly, if they asked.
LyndaLaHughes · 17/12/2018 21:08
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I like the simple packaging, the lack of overpowering scent and the fact that the products do not irritate my children’s sensitive skin.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I am very likely to purchase again but as a family of 5 with at least a load of washing daily, I am not loyal to any particular brand as I get through so much that I go for the products on offer. I do tend to always buy the fairy fabric conditioner now though as I find it good value and suitable for not irritating anyone’s skin.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes I would. Particularly to those with young children and babies.

BobDobbs · 17/12/2018 21:18

Thank you for choosing me to test these products

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the smell, and the fact that they did not set off my son's eczema. I also liked the dosing cap as others have said.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Likely, especially if they were on offer

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
It smells really nice, even my husband prefers it to the scented powders I used to use. My son was scratching himself quite badly a few weeks ago too, and his skin has calmed down since making the switch. I wasn't keen on how 'greasy' the fabric softener makes the wet clothes feel, and to be honest I haven't noticed a difference between using the softener and not.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I may use powder rather than liquid but I will be sticking with Fairy Non-Bio.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Definitely

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I loved these products - washing was soft and very clean, even weaning stains came out without having to add stain remover to the wash. The clothes were very soft and kind to my babies sensitive skin. The only thing that could make it better would be if the smell lasted a little longer as I found after tumble drying it had faded quite a bit.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I would be very likely to buy them again if they were a reasonable price.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes I would recommend they try it if it is reasonably priced compared to competitors

liked them easy to open not too overpowering smell.gave an ok result.2 would buy again if on offer but would not be my first choice,3 would recommend for any one with sensitive skin,or young children .in total ok but not the greatest.thank you for picking me

Racecardriver · 17/12/2018 22:41
  1. I liked that the smell was fairly neutral and the clothes weren’t left as stiff as they are with other brands I have used.
  2. Maybe but I can’t say I would seek out fairy products in particular or choose them over a cheaper option.
  3. If a friend asked me directly about these products I’d say what I said above but I’m not so wowed by laundry detergent that I am going to go out raving about it.
hartleyhare · 18/12/2018 00:00

I really liked both products I have a 1 yr old granddaughter and five children - 3 are grown up! I also have really sensitive skin so I was interested to see how this was with my washing. It definitely was easier using liquid in a dosing cup than my powder. The fabric softener also was thicker than my regular supermarket brand. Both washed clothes and bedding well, everything was fresh and clean and smelled really nice, just like fresh washing! I love the scent so much I am going to buy it again. I found it to clean stains including grease spatters from roast potatoes on a top I had. I poured a little liquid onto the stain and washed as usual and it removed the stain completely. I would recommend these products they wash well, I had no irritation, my family’s clothing and bedding was clean and smells lovely. The bottle was easy to use and measure with the cup, the fabric softener was also easy to measure with the cap. Both were a decent consistency and not watery, and neither left a residue . I was very happy with both products.

SweetPeaPods · 18/12/2018 11:05

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to test!

  1. I liked the clean delicate smell, not too overpowering. No reaction to dc eczema.
  2. I would purchase again if on offer. I prefer the liquid tabs to the liquid however can see the benefit to the bottle of liquid.
  3. Yes I would recommend.
clairedunphy · 18/12/2018 11:27
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

Like others, I like the dosing cap and the products themselves are very easy to use and mess free. I liked both products but didn't find them to be anything special over and above my usual bio powder and supermarket brand softener. Smell is OK, although I find the softener smell a little cloying so use less than the recommended amount. Skin issues in the family are certainly no worse, it's hard to know with other factors but I'm keeping an eye on the kids' dry skin to see if there is a real difference after using up the whole bottle.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I don't think I'll go out of my way to buy them, purely because I tend to stick with own brand products for their value. If on offer though, I probably will buy them.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Not particularly, but I certainly wouldn't advise against them.

lovemyflipflops · 18/12/2018 12:48

1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
The washing smelt lovely when it come out of the washing machine, reminded me of when my baby was a newborn. The lovely smell did not last when wearing the jumpers I washed (which I get with my other detergents)

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would buy fairy for my delicates, but only if it was on offer at the supermarket, it's a little more expensive than my usual product, I would buy the conditioner as I thought this was lovely and made my school uniforms feel lovely.

3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes I would recommend, because of how it washed my uniforms.

PontypandyPioneer · 18/12/2018 13:59
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I loved the smell of both, they left our clothes feeling soft and smelling fresh. I have a builder husband and a 4 year old and 2 year old so we get through a lot of washing. It cleaned my husband's scruffy work gear very well. No issues with it on my boys' skin. I liked the dosing cap.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

The price would put me off a little but I absolutely love the smell so I'd definitely think about changing.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Absolutely!
