This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Fairy Non Bio Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “We want to reach out to all of the mums and dads out there who are faced with a daily everest of dirty laundry and are the best judge of what works… and what doesn’t. We want to put our products to the test and see if they’re still the best for a family’s needs.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, plus giving any other feedback you’d like to share:

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
  2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
  3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

All testers who give their feedback on this thread and complete a short survey about their experience will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I really liked the product it did a good job cleaning my clothes and the smell is lovely. It was the first time I have used a liquid as I usually use powder it was easy to dose with the handy cap. The only downside is having to clean the cap after use so if it was the actual lid that you measured with rather than another cap on top it may be better.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would probably purchase again depending on price. If it was the same price as my usual washing powder I would definitely buy.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would definitely recommend it cleans well and great for sensitive
skin and little ones

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the smell of the fabric conditioner and I the dosing cap forbthe liquid was good- I currently use fairy non bio washing powder which is excellent but I found the liquid just didn’t seem to clean the clothes as well as the powder does

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Yes to the conditioner. It had a clean smell that I liked and wasn’t too overpowering.
Probably not to the liquid- I still think liquid washing machine detergent is bad for the machines and as it didn’t clean as well as my fairy powder, I’ll stick to that

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

The conditioner yes

Polywhirl · 15/12/2018 08:26
  1. I liked the subtle smell of it but would like it to linger a bit more on clothing. Plus another positive is that there was no irritation in my toddlers sensitive skin. I don’t usually use a softener but liked the softness on bedding etc.
  2. I quite often buy fairy non bio but usually when it’s on offer- so yes I would buy it again. Softener - I don’t think so as it seems to have limited benefit for the price, this is a general view of softener not just fairy!
  3. Yes I would recommend it to friends as it smells nice and does the job.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the ease of use and subtle fragrance. The conditioner looked a funny colour though and seemed watery.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? Likely because they made the clothes feel soft and delicately fragranced rather than overpowering.
  2. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I like the fact the detergent was liquid and the dosing ball thing. I usually go for liquids - less messy than powder. BUT I don't think the cleaning power was quite as good as the previous product I had been using (Ariel liquid), probably because that was bio over non bio. None of the family seem to have sensitive skin so I tend to get bio for cleaning power. The fabric conditioner seemed a bit watered down and the smell wasn't strong enough. I prefer comfort concentrate. Finally the detergent is a slightly smaller bottle than what I usually buy so if sold as that size I doubt it would be as good value for money.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Only of they were on offer, as I think other products are better (bio liquid and concentrate fabric conditioner).
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
No

Firstly the bottle of detergent has a visual aid on the side so you can see how full it is, useful when you're getting low. They stand upright and don't fall over - maybe if they could be made so they slot in together into a corner? That would be great for me! The dosing is clear and it's easy to fill to the line, I'm in a hard water area so I'd always go to the top line, I don't think this was mentioned on the bottle though. I like how the measuring cup fits on the bottle cap and I've always preferred to add detergent directly into the drum. The softener is easy to pour into the lid but there's no line to pour to, maybe this could be added please? The clothes washed perfectly and smelled nice and fresh and were very comfy to wear. I don't ususally buy seperate detergent for other laundry, it all gets shoved in together, pretty much, and so my partners work gear got the good treatment and came out looking great. I did a load for my sister as her machine let her down and she said it smelled like dolly mixtures, her kids agreed but I think the smell is more like cotton-fresh. I'd definitely recommend Fairy non bio both detergent and softener, I just hope I can stick to the recommended amount so that both bottles finish at the same time! I'm much more likely to buy both together if both need replacing.

  1. I liked the cap, meant you could measure out the correct amount very easily. Not convinced about the stain removal though, they got a little lighter but I wouldn't say they had disappeared completely which is disappointing.
  1. Would probably buy them if they were on offer in the shops, but not sure i'd pay full price for them.
  1. Possibly, might recommend if I knew they were on offer as they are not a bad product, though there are others out there that do a slightly better job.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the smell the detergent and softener left on the clothes, fresh but not too strong. They also didn't irritate my son's sensitive skin. I liked that it is liquid and the detergent goes straight into the machine, the measuring cap was great so I didn't use too much liquid. They cleaned the clothes fine although didn't remove all baby food stains, but I don't think any detergent does really. Maybe a stain removed product would also help for tougher stains.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Yes I would continue to use both products.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes I would recommend, particularly for those with children or sensitive skin.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I really liked the dosing cap and the easy pour bottle, super easy to use and no mess. The detergent worked great and left the clothes fresh and clean.

I wasn't too impressed by the fabric softner. The smell was pleasant enough but the clothes didn't feel as soft as my regular supermarket brand conditioner. However it seemed gentle and didn't irritate those with eczema in the house.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would purchase the detergent if the price was reasonable but not the fabric conditioner.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would reccomend the detergent but not the conditioner.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked that my ds with sensitive skin wasn't irritated by either product so now there is a back up washing detergent I can use if my usual one isn't available. However, I think it smells vile. It's not too bad in the bottle so I was quite excited but the smell on the clothes is not nice at all.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Very unlikely unless my usual brand has a disaster and stops making theirs.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I would suggest it to someone with sensitive skin but I wouldnt necessarily recommend it.
WilmaJean · 17/12/2018 13:05
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

^^These clean really well and the new dosing cup was easy to use and made putting just the right amount of detergent in the wash straight forward. I like the gentle smell and am confident that it is kind to sensitive skin, both for my baby and my husband, who reacts very easily to laundry detergents.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

^^I will definitely be using these products again, especially the fabric softener.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

^^Yes. Especially to anyone with babies or has family members with sensitive skin.

What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the dosing cap- usually use tablets so I don't put too much or too little in. I forgot once and poured it straight in to the drawer though and it worked fine.
I liked the smell of both detergent and softener, it wasn't too strong but clothes smelled nicely clean and fresh which can be hard to achieve when drying indoors and something my usual powder wasn't providing.
It also took stains out better than my usual washing products.

Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Very likely especially if they are on offer.

Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
If it came up in conversation I'd mention it, especially to other parent friends, as it smells nice without irritating the skin on my DD. The nice smell lasts too which is a plus.

Shuggas · 17/12/2018 13:13
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I really liked them both! I liked the cap particularly on the washing liquid, and the conditioner made clothes much softer! The smell is great and really lasts which I found really impressive as I have tried other non bio which has never had a smell to it.

I’d like a bit more stain removal to it, that’s the one thing I’d suggest improving, but we always have vanish in the house anyway so wasn’t a massive deal.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Very! Whenever it’s on offer I’m stocking up! I love them both!

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes I absolutely would and am!! I’m so glad I got to try these! Thank you.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
i like both products as they are simple and very lightly fragranced but they clean the clothes effectively. I think it’s ideal for baby/toddler clothing for those reasons. The dosing cap is good too and easy to use
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I have a baby so will be using fairy non bio for his washing (but only when it’s on offer as a bit highly Priced otherwise)
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would recommend the items to my fellow parent friends

alliwantforchristmasis · 17/12/2018 13:15

I tried this with someone who can only use certain detergents and softeners as they are allergic to most of them out there, so I washed an outfit that they were going to be wearing for a whole day including the underwear so it was next to skin as well. I have to agree with everyone else the dosing cap is good but the reaction that happened wasn't.
It took only 20 mins for them to come out in an itchy rash which was very unpleasant to say the least.
So in answer would I buy again?
it's a resounding no
Would I recommend to anyone else? that is also no.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/12/2018 13:18

1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked that the scent wasn't overpowering or chemically (to my nose) but that our laundry still smelt 'clean'

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Reasonably likely, although I'm tryimg to reduce the amount of plastic we buy as a family so it wouldn't be every time we need detergent/softner.

3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes, if they asked for different products to try.

myotherbagisgucci · 17/12/2018 13:18

1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I thought the fabric conditioner made the clothes soft, but they didn't really smell of anything. The detergent didn't seem to remove stains on my baby's clothes, even on a 40c wash.

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I'll probably buy if it's on offer, but I wouldn't pay full price.

3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Id recommend to family and friends with newborns, as it is nice and gentle on babies skin.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the dosing cap as others have mentioned. I liked the smell of the conditioner but the washing liquid didn’t get stains out of clothes.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Yes to the conditioner but no to the washing liquid
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Probably not as the saying removing power wasn’t good enough
MrsSiriusBlack1 · 17/12/2018 13:21

1: I loved the smell of these products and especially on my 10mth olds clothes! The dosing cap was very effective and the liquid not gloopy, I also thought the conditioner was softening and had a lovely smell! I found I had to use vanish in bigger loads though.
2:I would definitely buy fairy non bio again but maybe the powder and the conditioner which I loved!
3: I would definitely recommend these products, in fact my mum bought the conditioner when she had a smell of mine!

Ahardmanisgoodtofind · 17/12/2018 13:23

What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
The dosing cap was my favourite thing, I'm terrible with weights and measures so I found it really helpful. For general washing I found it great, my dh chef whites needed a soak, bit to be honest I'm yet to find a detergent that works first time. Worked well on non set stains, but not so well on anything dried in, needed vanish for those, but again not had a washing detergent that didn't need an extra boost occasionally.
The fabric conditioner was great if you don't like strong fragrances left on clothes, my clothes did feel soft, and I found towels stayed softer for longer.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
If they were on offer then yes, I like a stronger fragrance with fabric conditioner, I actually really liked the detergent and will probably use it again.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes, probably more to those with sensitive skin or small babies.., I did some washing for a friend whose machine broke and her daughter has very sensitive skin, she's made the switch.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested?
Is there anything you think would make them better?

I really loved the non messy dosing cap on the washing liquid. It was really easy to see the level marks and there was no mess around the bottle top at all with this great design.
I also liked the light fresh scent of these products.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would definitely purchase them. They were kind to skin, they had a light fresh scent and were easy to use.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes I would because they worked well at various wash temperatures and there was nothing I didn’t like. It was a great trial to be a part of - thank you.

QueenOfPharts · 17/12/2018 13:29
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I had mountains of washing as dcs, dh and I had awful vomiting/diarrhoea bug. I got through a lot of washing and both lasted well and left washing clean and fresh. I thought the liquid detergent bottle had too wide a neck so I probably slightly overdosed.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? Yes I will but probably when on offer/feeling flush
  2. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends? Yes they are brilliant, mess free and easy to use .
TheBrilloPad · 17/12/2018 13:30
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the fragrance. I thought it was delicate and not overwhelming, which is perfect for my newborn baby. It wasn't fantastic at stain removal - basically it was ok in removing the baby sick and small poo stains from babies clothes, but not the stains from mud/food etc on the clothes of my toddler and pre-schooler, but then I've never found non-bio that's great at stain removal, and it's no worse and possibly slightly better than other ones I have tried.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
Yes would purchase for newborn baby, or for children with sensitive skin.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes if they had a new baby or wanted a gentle washing liquid/conditioner. I wouldn't recommend in terms of stain removal.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I didn’t like the dosing cap- felt it made much more mess and was just extra waste. I have been using cover since the last mumsnet product test which I don’t use softer with and as a result I found the smell of this really overpowering though it kind of reminded me of childhood as my mum uses bucketloads of softer.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I don’t think I will. I think I am happy with a slightly more eco friendly alternative. I didn’t find this claened any better, though it did fine.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I found the smell too much, but this is what we used to use and to be fair as we are about to go back to the nappy stage we may again depending on how ecover is on the nappies.

MotherOfCats · 17/12/2018 13:37
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
The detergent seemed decent and I liked the mess free bottle and dosing cap. There didn't seem to be much fragrance with the fabric softener witch was disappointing and I didn't find the products to be particularly good at removing stains.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I might buy the detergent if it was on offer or if I had a very young baby and needed something very gentle. But I wouldn't buy the fabric softener.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Probably not
