JustineBMumsnet · 11/12/2018 15:37

This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Fairy Non Bio Laundry Liquid and Fabric Softener.

Here’s what Fairy Non Bio has to say: “We want to reach out to all of the mums and dads out there who are faced with a daily everest of dirty laundry and are the best judge of what works… and what doesn’t. We want to put our products to the test and see if they’re still the best for a family’s needs.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions, plus giving any other feedback you’d like to share:

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
  2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
  3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

All testers who give their feedback on this thread and complete a short survey about their experience will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks, and good luck!

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked that they didn’t make my sensitive kids’ skin react. The softener seemed rather watery. Not sure if they just tried to spread it out between the testers?!
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? Quite likely, although I’m pretty stuck in powders so it would have to be on offer.
  2. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes I would, especially those with sensitive little ones.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I loved the gel for washing clothes it got clothes really clean but was also very kind to sensitive skin.
I didn’t like the fabric softener really. I have a habit of leaving a load in the washer overnight before taking it out to dry. With previous softeners I have used in the past this has been fine but I found with the fairy softner the clothes didn’t smell as fresh the following day. Just a slight irritation as well was the fact that you got a different number of washes from the products so they will need replacing at different times.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would probably buy the laundry gel but would not buy the softener

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would definitely recommend the laundry gel but probably wouldn’t recommend the softener.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked the subtle fragrance of them both. It washed the clothes lovely and didn't aggravate my young children skin.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future? I'm completely converted to Fairy non bio.
  2. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends? Yes and I already have!

1.What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I loved how soft the washing was when it came out of the machine and it smelled amazing. I guilty of always adding more softener/liquid/powder than the packaging recommends, however, I decided to follow the instructed amount for the testing and it still smelt great. The dosing cap is great, and makes a massive difference from using powder which can get clogged in the drawer.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I loved both products and usually buy Fairy powder for the children’s clothes with another brand softener, however I will now buy the Fairy softener as it intensified the great scent. Liquid also seemed to clean the clothes better as it went straight into the drum.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I’ve got lots of family and friends with small children and would definitely recommend it to them.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
The fairy non bio washing liquid did a good job at cleaning most stains. I liked that the cap had a measure on it. The softener didn't seem to have much of a scent to it, but my washing did smell really nice and even after being tumbled and put away it still smelled nice.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I would buy both products if on offer.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I would recommend the washing liquid, but not sure about the softener.
babycakes1010 · 17/12/2018 14:04

Thank you for allowing me to take part in this trial.

  1. I loved the fact they were liquid and the cap seemed very secure. The smell was lovely but I would have to say it didn't do anything for stains.
  2. I don't think I would purchase again due to having to wash twice to get rid of some stains.
  3. No I wouldn't recommend. Sorry!

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked filling up the dosage cap, I feel like I must have been using too much product in the past as I usually just splosh some in the drawer.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

The difference in the product wasn't enough to make me spend premium price on these products - I used the copy-cat Aldi line alongside the Fairy products and there was hardly any difference. The supermarket one might have even been a bit better at stains.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

No, I wouldn't usually ever recommended washing products as my conversations are never about laundry, but I wouldn't be able to recommend these products over the supermarket knock-offs. Price and stain removal beats a slightly stronger smell for me.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

They made my washing smell nice and they came out very soft too.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

It would depend on the price as I have to try and buy the cheapest things in my shop

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes, they worked well and smelt nice too.

treegone · 17/12/2018 14:26
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested?
The smell suits me, it's clean without being over powering or too florally.

Is there anything you think would make them better?
Nothing product wise that i could advise on. Design wise...perhaps a lid that doesn't look so similar to the laundry cup because I kept putting the wrong one in the machine and was left without a lid to the bottle until it came out again!

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I will think about buying the liquid detergent. I sometimes use capsules but am sure they can't be great to enter the water system with that dissolvable plastic pod and I sometimes use powder which sticks to the drawer in my machine. A blob of liquid in the drum seems like the way to go.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
I would. I'd recommend them in as much that if someone asked what I use and if it was ok, I'd say yes. Quite honestly from one product to the next I could not tell you how clean or soft they make my clothes. I cannot tell the difference at all. The smell is what marks my preference and I do like the smell of the detergent and even the softener so when these products are on offer, I'll buy them.
Cleebeeface · 17/12/2018 14:27
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the bottle and cap design. I thought the bumpy side to rub the detergent into stains is a good idea. I thought they left our clothes smelling fresh but not over powering.
I found it didn’t remove baby food stains, mainly tomato, completely but I’m yet to find a detergent that does!

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would use again because I feel they are better for my babies sensitive skin. She can sometimes have irritated skin, but had nothing with this.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the smell and the size of the bottles. They haven't flared up my husband's or daughter's eczema which is a big positive. I found the measured by size of washing machine unusual and didn't need to use as much as was recommended.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Very likely.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes definitely

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I tested during a time when we, as a family, had norovirus. The Fairy did a much better job of removing the vomit smell (sorry) as I had to actually re-wash a load I’d washed in a different detergent.

I wish the dosing cap on the liquid was built into the lid. It’s mucky and a hassle being separate.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Depending on availability at Lidl, I which is likely buy the fabric softener again. I feel fabric liquid is just more plastic bottles, when I can use powder from a cardboard box.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I actually have done already, as I discussed the efficacy of the liquid during our noro outbreak!

Imgettingcheesefries · 17/12/2018 14:36

I also liked the dosing cap, although I'm crap at pouring it in and had to try tip some back in the bottle most times. I really liked the smell of both products

If they were on offer I probably would. They worked well and I really liked the scent

Yes I would recommend

QwertySmalls · 17/12/2018 14:36

Very likely
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends
Yes Thank youbfor having the chance to review. I still have a lot of product left.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I really like this washing liquid, I have been using non bio since the birth of my child and have used this before too. I am very happy with it.

I like the measuring cup, I like how it pours, I like the ergonomics of how the bottle handles. No complaints at all

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would def purchase again, if it’s on offer even better

I was pleased to be able to trial the softener as I hadn’t used this before, I air dry all my clothes now and was finding that they were feeling a little stiff but this definitely leaves the clothes softer.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

This was tecommended by my sister to me and now from me to others.

I would def add the softener in as I do think it’s made a difference on the feel of my clothes and makes them smell amazing

Cotswoldmama · 17/12/2018 15:12

I really liked the product and would definitely recommend it to family and friends. I hadn’t used either product before as it’s out of our price range. I always by own branded stuff. If it was on offer I would probably buy it. I was really surprised by the fragrance, for some reason I think because it’s for senti e skin I thought there would be little or no scent but the fragrance was nice and quite strong.

iamcalledemma · 17/12/2018 15:17
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I've never used liquid before, and liked it once I'd got the hand of not getting it everywhere! Clothes came out smelling clean and lovely. I would like an extra ball, holder thing as managed to lose it twice already Hmm but I guess the idea is you save up old ones and then have spares!

The fabric conditioner was fine, didn't see much difference from my regular conditioner really. It smelled nice though..

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I would use the liquid again but would have to check the price, as I'm getting through the liquid much faster than I would do with powder. I probably would stick to my Tesco own brand fabric conditioner.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends? Yes I would.
PsychoPumpkin · 17/12/2018 15:17
  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

The detergent was great, it cleaned really well even when I used it in my daily low temperature wash. Smelt very fresh when the wash was done.
The conditioner was fine for keeping clothes soft but there was very little scent after the clothes had been tumble dried but I guess that’s the trade you have to make for less irritating ingredients.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would definitely biy the Jon bio again. It works brilliantly.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the fragrance of the products-they are nice and fresh without being overpowering-and the dosing cap, which was nice and mess free. The fabric softener was a little runny, so maybe a concentrated version which you need less of would be good.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would be reasonably likely to buy the products in the future. They still didn't get satsuma stains out though.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I would recommend the products to friends and family for the fragrance and gentleness to delicate skin, but not for its stain removing qualities.

PickledWilly · 17/12/2018 16:10

What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I liked the laundry liquid; it had a nice clean fragrance and the dosing cap was good. I LOVED the fabric conditioner! I am a bit obsessed with laundry fragrance and the combination of the laundry liquid and fab con together was really lovely and delicate. I did use 1.5 capfuls of the fab con though. The stain removing qualities of the liquid were average to good - I usually use vanish on stains anyway

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I will definitely buy both in the future. I will probably continue to use bio liquid for the rest of the family but will continue to buy the fairy non bio for my newborn. She smelt delicious!

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends

Yes I would, I have already recommended it to my mum

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I liked them, the washing was fresh and it hasn't caused any skin reactions with my lb who has eczema.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would purchase them, although it would depend on the price.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

I probably would.

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I loved fairy non bio. It was great that it came with a measuring cap that was separated to the lid as other company’s don’t have this. I loved how it made out clothes soft and was great with stains.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I would most definitely buy this again.
  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Yes, I have recommended it to my sister in law for her sons.

Smells clean and fresh

2. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?
I’ll definitely buy the washing liquid again, but I don’t use softener

3. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?
Definitely

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?

I had been struggling to find a washing powder or liquid that didn’t give my 4 year old son a rash - since using the Fairy Non Bio Liquid the rash has gone.

  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

I would definitely buy the non bio liquid for the reason given above - I also really like the smell. The fabric conditioner has nothing special about it in particular and I don’t tend to use it much anyway but would buy it above another brand for the non rash inducing element as stated

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes I would

  1. What did you like about the Fairy Non Bio products you tested? Is there anything you think would make them better?
I absolutely loved these products and was so thrilled with the results. Clothes came out soft, clean and smelling fresh. I would only recommend changing the shape of the nozel on the non-bio as I found it often dropped down the side.
  1. Now you’ve tried the products, how likely or unlikely would you be to purchase them in the future?

Definitely will be switching my usuals brand to this.

  1. Would you recommend the Fairy Non Bio products you tried to family or friends?

Yes and already have. Have recommended to my mum who has sensitive skin to washing powders/liquids and she has had great success with it. I also think that this combination is fantastic on baby clothes in keeping them soft for baby skin but also managing to remove stains
