This thread is for the 280 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Lupilu Nappies with their DCs. If you're wondering where to get the best bargains for baby products, Mumsnetters' have picked out their favourite buys from the Lupilu range here

The following items were tested:
Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack £1.09
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack £2.19
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack £3.49
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack £3.49
Size 4+ Maxi Plus Nappies (9-20kg) 44 pack £3.49
Size 5+ Junior Plus Nappies (13-27kg) 36 pack £3.09
Size 6+ Extra Large Plus Nappies (16+kg) 26 pack £3.29

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product:
"Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. That's why we ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and last year Mumsnetters asked for a wetness indicator on size 1 Newborn Nappies, so we added one!”

“There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality is high. Our nappies are dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, helping to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Below are some questions we’d like you to answer, but feel free to add any other comments you may have.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

All testers who leave their feedback on site and complete the short survey we sent to you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck

  1. 18 month old child, size 4+

  2. I like how thin they were, the pictures were good, no leaks. Size 4+ felt smallish on my child when fastening it but no leaks and the nappies kept them dry. The only thing I slightly disliked is the fastening Velcro felt a bit flimsy, as I'm used to the sainsburys ones that are quite thick, but this had no impact on how the nappies performed.

3)Yes

  1. Yes. I will buy any brand that is the right price and works well.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
    5 weeks old, size 1

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I thought they were nice looking and ds seemed comfortable in them.
We had 1 leak, but I don’t think any nappy could have contained that

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes, they are excellent for the price

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby is 6 weeks old, and we tested size 2.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

We have now used the nappies for a week and found them to be good quality nappies that are very absorbent, a good size and a very good price. Kept rather large breastfeed poops within the nappy.

The only things I didn't like about the nappies was that the fabric around the waist and legs seemed a little too stiff, and not as soft as the previous brand we had been using, and the waist didn't sit or stretch with my babies movements and caused a little bit of skin irritation due to friction. The gusset of the nappies also seemed to be quite bulky which was not a problem when on the baby, but they didn't roll up small (even with minimal urine in them) meaning they take up more room in the trash, which could prove problematic if you end up filling your fortnightly bin collection pretty quickly if you have more than one child in nappies.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, I would.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, but not until baby's skin is less sensitive (Due to the waistband stiffness and friction).

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

23 months, size 4

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

We normally buy Lidl Toujours nappies, and I was a bit worried that a new design wouldn't match up, but if anything they're an improvement - they're less bulky, just as absorbent, and fit well around the waist and the legs. They're excellent value, and DD seems very comfortable in them.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes - they're great value and perform as well as a more expensive brand.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes - they're good value, they perform well, and my toddler seems very comfortable in them, so I'll definitely keep buying them.

dinosaurkisses · 08/01/2018 16:45
  1. DD is 13 weeks, we tested size 2
  2. really impressed!!!! We’d been using Pampers up up now and had regular explosions and leaks. I thought that was just normal, until I tried these. No leaks at all, really really absorbent and didn’t irritate dd’s skin- her nappy rash has actually improved in the last few days of use. That’s before we even start comparing the price to Pampers etc!
  3. 100% yes!
  4. definitely see a trip to Lidl in my future! Once my current stash of Pampers has run out I’ll be swapping to Lidl.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 9.5 months, size 4
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? No leaks even after 12 hours, stretchy and soft and much more lightweight than Aldi nappies which we usually use. I don’t have any negative feedback.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Definitely
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? I will definitely be buying these nappies in future as they are a similar price to my usual brand but I found the leak protection much better and I like the look and softness of them.
glitterglitters · 08/01/2018 17:40
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 6 months and size 3

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? I felt they felt better quality than the other "discount supermarket" brand, cute design and tabs were good. We had a bit of leakage but that's pretty common with my baby as she is a very heavy wetter. Easy to tell when needed changing with the "squidgy" test but didn't bloat out so uncomfortable for the baby. Also accommodated bubs MEGA CHUNKY things nicely.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes, I think the price that I've seen they are makes them more than competitive and good value. I think the Lupilu branding is a lot clearer as a "baby" brand than the previous Toujours.

beautifulsoup · 08/01/2018 17:41

How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
My son is 2 years (and 1 month) and we tested size 6+

What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
My first impression was that they felt very thin and they looked sort of furry, as though they had been in the bottom of my handbag for a while! However I really liked the fit, he seemed really comfortable in them and I loved that they held everything in, we had no issues at all with leaking. Unfortunately they did become saggy as soon as he did anything in them so I ended up using more each day than my regular brand (Mamia by Aldi).

Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Sorry I wouldn't overall. The fit was great but the sagging was really annoying.

Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
I wouldn't buy these no. I really really wanted to like them as we shop for food in Lidl but I'm afraid I'm adding them to the pile of rejects along with Asda Little Angels, Sainsbury's Little Ones, Tesco Loves Baby and Boots own brand. I think I'm quite fussy reading that list back! I will quite likely give Lupilu pull-ups a go when we start potting training though as Aldi pull-ups are awful.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
  • 8.5 months, size 4.
2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
  • Overall impression was good, but they leaked with the first two poos. My LG is towards the bottom of the weight bracket (she's about 18lbs) so it might have been that there was too much room round the legs and she's quite slim. Impressived with how thin they are compared to other brands, and didn't get too bulky when wet. No leaks overnight. Didn't really like the cartoons - like the idea but the actual cartoons are a bit creepy!
  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
  • Yes. Experience with these nappies has been similar to others.
  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
  • Yes if shopping Lidl, but the closest one is the other side of town.
babycakes1010 · 08/01/2018 19:14

Thank you for allowing us to take part in this product test

Ds 21 months size 6+

I was very impressed with these nappies they didn't leak and didn't go bulky. The fit seemed perfect for my son and he was comfortable in them.

I would recommend these nappies and I will definitely be buying these again.

Coffeeorginplease · 08/01/2018 19:22
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? Our baby is 5 days old and we tried size 1s.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
The design including a wetness indicator was hugely helpful and the softness of the inside was much nicer compared to other brands we have used.
I really disliked the tabs, they didn’t feel ‘sticky’ enough and didn’t always feel securely attached to back of nappy so had to be careful when pulling them.
The packaging was great and I like that it had a handle for ease of carrying and shape for storing.
From limited experience of nappies I’d say these size 1s are ever so slightly bigger length ways that others brands which would probably be ideal if you had a long baby.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes sure, they were equally as good as the other similar priced nappies we have used.

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
I would purchase if there was an Lidl closer to me, unfortunately at present all other supermarkets are closer.

londonrach · 08/01/2018 19:27

Nappies arrived today will test them tonight...that be a good test!!!

MaryPoppinsStoleMyHandbag · 08/01/2018 20:00
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Just turned 18 months - Size 4+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I’ve just finished my first day of using them on DD and so far my first impressions aren’t that great tbh. When I took the first one out of the packaging to put on DD there was a strong, almost chemical, smell which I could still smell on my hands and from DD 5-10 mins later. I think this might have been the packaging that they came in rather than the nappies themselves though as I took them all out of the packaging and put them all in a storage trolley and the smell went away.

They are not as soft or thick as my normal brand and nowhere near as absorbent. The nappy was wet and left my DDs skin damp which my normal brand doesn’t seem to do. She’s had one dirty nappy today which leaked. Again, I never normally get leakages with my normal brand.

The price is amazing so I’m really pleased to have the opportunity to try these as they are much cheaper than my normal brand but I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing (though I have only been using for 24hrs so far).

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

No. Though I’d mention them if they were looking for a cheap brand.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

No, unfortunately not. They’re just not absorbent enough in my opinion.

wineandcheeseplease · 08/01/2018 20:15

  3. Yes they seem very good value
  4. Yes because they were as good as any i buy already

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 18 Months and we used size 4+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? I liked how thin and light they were. Nothing I particularly disliked.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes, definitely.
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes, seem good quality and just as good as other brands.
Janeyjaneyjaney · 08/01/2018 21:30

1 - My son is 3, and we tested size 5+

2 - I was pleasantly surprised by the Lidl nappies. I liked that they were thin and not bulky unlike some brands of nappies. It was useful that the waistband was stretchy too. My son liked the images on the nappies. There was nothing we disliked!

3 - Yes I would recommend them to a friend.

4 - I would definitely purchase them again in the future. They are great value for money.

applebags · 08/01/2018 21:40

I tested the size 2 nappies on my 11 week old.

First impressions were:
• They seemed to be made of very thick material so I had high hopes these wouldn’t leak.
• They look fun (which I’m sure is good for older babies).
• They’re a great price.
• They fit my son’s body shape very well - better than the other own brand nappies I’ve tried previously.
• As a PP said, the green tabs are handy to find quickly - if they could also be glow in the dark that would be great! Grin

I’m about halfway through the pack (so have used about 20) and I’m impressed.

The nappies have survived several very large poo explosions without leaking, although I’ve had one leaking wet nappy overnight.
They seem comfortable enough for my son and generally don’t leak so I’m very happy.

TheMendedDrum · 08/01/2018 21:44

Oh! Didn't realize this thread was up yet. I was expecting to be sent a link?

Anyway, size 4+, 14 month old.

I really rate Lidl nappies. I think they are great for the price and would still be good value if the same price as Pampers etc.

Would definitely recommend to others.

Thanks for chance to try them.

Lambhenry · 08/01/2018 21:58

How old? 14 months. Tested size 4.
I liked the fact they weren't bulky, they felt soft, and they were nice and stretchy. They felt quite premium and much nicer than aldi. The design was cute. The width of the actual nappy was good.
However because they are so slim I didn't trust them overnight with my heavy wetter. I also had a daytime leak. They don't seem big enough to last to 18kg to me - my child is 12kg but the tabs weren't that close together! The tabs woukd be better if more stretchy. I prefer nappy pants as my child is very wriggly, and would be very interested in a lidl version.
Yes I would buy them in future if lidl open a branch closer than an hours drive!
I would recommend them to friends.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? nearly 3, tested size 5+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? I really liked the design and the feel of the nappies. They held up overnight for 12+ hours. No complaints at all.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Definitely
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? I would (if there was a Lidl nearby!)

Sorry we are late to the party! Hadn't received our nappies till a few days ago and wanted to go through the whole pack before giving feedback.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

2.5 weeks/Size 1

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I put this on the survey but I think Lidl nappies healed my DDs nappy rash! She was back in Pampers two days ago (as we had excess stock in the house) and her nappy rash is coming back!

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes. Although I still think there is a stigma amongst certain social circles that Lidl isn't somewhere they'd like to be seen to shop (just being honest!).

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes and I sent DH out yesterday evening to buy 2x 44 packs (see point 2)!!

IsabellaTruffle · 09/01/2018 11:16

1) How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

17 months old, size 4+

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was pleasantly suprised, good quality, cute design and reasonable cost

3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes for a similar aged baby, or a mum wanting a more reasonably cost nappy without having to forfeit quality too much.

4) Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes definatley, I had initially thought I wouldn't as nearest Lidl is a fair way away for nappies but after trialling them I'd make the extra effort. They are a lot cheaper than pampers and of similar quality and for my toddler worked just as well.

Other comments

I personally wouldn't use these on a small baby, or one with sensitive skin as they don't feel as soft as pampers and DD pulled at it quite a bit at first scratching her tummy. I think they are perfect for an older child.

RC10 · 09/01/2018 11:34
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
My baby is 10 weeks old and I used size 2

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I really liked them. The patterns and colours were nice, I liked the stretchy back and they didn’t leak at all. My son is quite a wriggler so trying to get them stuck down takes a few attempts and usually the stick is gone by the time we’re finished but I’m delighted to say this didn’t happen!

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    Definitely

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Absolutely. They’re really reasonably priced and I’ve been using Aldi nappies which is a 30 minute drive away but I have a Lidl just 5 minutes away.

Blahblahblueblee · 09/01/2018 12:29
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? Age 19 months and size 5+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? I was really impressed, they felt nice, didn’t leak unless I used them at night and were the best cheaper nappy I have tried.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes, I would recommend, after pampers they are the next best thing - and cheaper!
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes for day time use, they don’t feel as cheap as many other cheaper nappies!
Keepingupwiththejonesys · 09/01/2018 13:33
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Age 10 months and we tried the 4+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

They looked/felt quite thin which is good as they aren't as bulky under clothes. Loved the design of them. They did an amazing job during the day but I had to stop using them at night after day 4. Each morning my babies vest was a little damp. I will add though, since applying for this product trial baby had a growth spurt and we had moved up to size 5 in our usual nappies. I do think size 5 in the lidl nappies would have been fine. My baby sleeps 11-13 hours straight at night so needs a good nappy. I think the 4+ was just slightly to small as he had grown. They never fully leaked, he just felt damp on his vest in the morning and they held poops in well.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would, they are better than other brands we've tried and as good as others

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, the price is good. I am rarely in lidl but would get them without doubt if I was in there. I don't think they are better than the nappies we normally use but they're as good
