This thread is for the 280 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Lupilu Nappies with their DCs. If you're wondering where to get the best bargains for baby products, Mumsnetters' have picked out their favourite buys from the Lupilu range here

The following items were tested:
Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack £1.09
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack £2.19
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack £3.49
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack £3.49
Size 4+ Maxi Plus Nappies (9-20kg) 44 pack £3.49
Size 5+ Junior Plus Nappies (13-27kg) 36 pack £3.09
Size 6+ Extra Large Plus Nappies (16+kg) 26 pack £3.29

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product:
"Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. That's why we ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and last year Mumsnetters asked for a wetness indicator on size 1 Newborn Nappies, so we added one!”

“There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality is high. Our nappies are dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, helping to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Below are some questions we’d like you to answer, but feel free to add any other comments you may have.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

All testers who leave their feedback on site and complete the short survey we sent to you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

We tried new born nappies pack size 24.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby is 2 months old and we used new born

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

We loved these! They were extremely absorbent and we didn’t have any leaks. The material was very soft and my LO didn’t have any marks left on her skin from the nappies. They also didn’t leave a horrible smell like some nappies

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

I actually gave a couple to a friend with a baby a little younger to try her self and she was over the moon with them and has changed from pampers!
4) Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes absolutely! The price is fantastic and we will be waiting from our normal brand to these. I expected nothing from these nappies and got so much more so was bowled over by them

ohyesitis · 16/01/2018 19:52
  1. I was using the size 4 on a 12 month old
  2. I liked that the nappies were not bulky. They fit well around the waist, so avoiding and nasty leaks up the back (!) Also surprisingly absorbant. The tabs were a little stiff, but worked perfectly well.
  3. I would recommend these nappies to others.
  4. The nappies worked and are reasonably priced, so I would buy them in the future if I was near a Lidl store.
Cagliostro · 16/01/2018 21:43

I filled in the survey a few days back and was quite scathing, I feel guilty now as having finished the pack they have grown on us a bit.

1) How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
11 weeks, size 2
2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
Oddly my first impression was the smell, I didn’t like it. Never noticed an unused nappy smell before! I also found they smelled much worse when wet.
They were fairly absorbent although we had a few leaks. It seems they are slightly smaller than the brand we use, I definitely found the tabs weren’t sticky enough either. They did redeem themselves later on though with some averted potential explosions! The back bit seems to be very good at holding it in.
3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
I’d say they were decent and good value.
4) Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
If I’m in Lidl anyway, or I am nearby when we need some, then I would, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to. They are not significantly cheaper than our usual ones that can be delivered with the groceries so it wouldn’t be worth an extra trip.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My daughter is fourteen weeks old and I tested size 2 nappies.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

My first impressions were that they seemed to be soft and absorbent which they were. My daughter sometimes has red marks in her skin from other nappies which she never had with these ones. They fit her well and were good for both day and night. I liked the design on them. However, it is harder to see if the nappy needs changed as there is no colour strip on them. This is quite a minor problem though.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would, I usually buy more expensive nappies because I assume they will be better quality but this has shown to me that less expensive nappies can also be very good. I think other people would be surprised that these nappies came from Lidl as there are preconceptions about some products bought in discounter supermarkets.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes I think I would as I was pleasantly surprised by them. I have always assumed that less expensive nappies would not be absorbent or soft and might cause my daughter some skin problems, especially as she has sensitive skin. But this wasn't the case and I had a very positive experience with them so I can see myself buying them again.

Thank you for letting me and my daughter try these nappies, it was a very positive experience!

cocopopo · 17/01/2018 06:34

Baby is 10 weeks old and we u see size 3.

After using pampers and Sainsbury's nappies I was really impressed with Lidl nappies. I couldn't believe how cheap they were and they really do compare to pampers. They seem very soft and comfortable for babies and seem to be able to hold alot!
I definitely would recommend there's nappies and already have done to a few friends who might have turned their nose up initially due to the low price. I will be using them again.

Nibletmum · 17/01/2018 11:33

Baby is 7 months and I used size 4 overnight for the extra absorbency. I was impressed! Nice and thin, no leaks, secure fit, baby seemed comfortable in them. I wouldn’t say they work out much cheaper than the supermarket brand I usually use so wouldn’t go especially for them but I will buy them in if in Lidl. I wouldn’t have a problem recommending them either!

BatmanFlewAway · 17/01/2018 13:31

Baby is 8 months and we tested size four

Overall impression: Reasonable nappies with cute pictures.
Liked that they weren’t bulky. They were much less bulky than pampers even when wet. My baby wees a lot overnight and pampers leaves loads of crystals on her bottom which I hate. These nappies left a little bit so I wouldn’t use them overnight either but they are fine for daytime use. They didn’t leak onto her clothes even when the crystals leaked out. I would rate them as better than pampers but not as good as Aldi.

I would recommend them to a friend with the caveat above. Different nappies suit different babies. I didn’t have any explosive poos to test these on.

I would buy them again but not for nighttime use. Having said that, if my baby stops feeding at night we might not need such protection at night.

Sooner · 17/01/2018 16:02

3 yrs size 6+

Good value but not as soft as others brands. They did leak overnight (only used for night and naps) so I would say more suitable for short periods.

Due to the leak I would not be able to recommend.
I would perhaps use for a younger child in the daytime who has frequent changes.

hamburgers · 17/01/2018 18:42

@EmmaMumsnet do you know when the roll out of the new Lupilu nappies will be in Lidl stores? We were impressed with the nappies (as per my feedback upthread) and went out to buy some and when we got home realised they were the old Toujours ones, which are good but not as good.

ememem84 · 17/01/2018 19:55

Just noting that I still haven’t received the nappies so am unable to leave feedback. MNHQ are you able to advise?

Mindblank · 18/01/2018 09:56
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? She's 17 mo - we used size 4.
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Quite impressed by them. They were noticeably thinner that others that I've used, but no leaks etc. DD seemed comfortable in them & they lasted the night.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes.
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? I'm not loyal to a specific brand of anything - if it was convenient, I would do so.
kit2018 · 18/01/2018 12:19
  1. Baby is 3 months, tested size 3
  2. Nappies worked brilliantly. Surprising absorbency for the slim size of them. No leaks even when used overnight.
  3. I would recommended them
  4. If there was a Lidl closer to where I live I would definitely buy these again
1033MICHELLE · 18/01/2018 15:27
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? - My daughter is 2 years and we had size 5+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? - Very good overall impression. They were soft and comfortable and we didn't have any leaks. Nothing to dislike.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? - Yes for sure
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes as we got on well with them and they are good value

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

4 months, size 3

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was very impressed, I tried Lidl's nappies many years ago with my eldest son, who is now 4 years, and they felt very cheap and plasticy, they also leaked at nighttime. These new ones feel completely different, more of a material type texture which makes them seem much better quality they also have not leaked even after a whole night in them. The only negative thing that I noted was that they didn't seem as good at controlling urine odours as my usual bland and they seem to become more bulky when full.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would, they are very similar to the more expensive brands but such good value for money.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, I would definitely consider them. I currently get my nappies in large amounts from Amazon using their Subscribe & Save and Amazon Family offers which is good value and convenient. But sometimes we run out before the next delivery is due, I would buy Lupilu nappies for times like this because they are so much cheaper than buying my usual brand in supermarkets and I would not be worried that they would cause nappy rash or leak over nights.

cmairiw · 18/01/2018 20:08
  1. My daughter has just turned two and we tested the 6+ size
  2. I was impressed. They seemed soft and comfortable. Nothing was disliked.
  3. Absolutely.
  4. I would definitely buy again. The quality was good and the price excellent
PJ04JCW · 18/01/2018 20:56

23 months, used 5+
I liked the slimness and softness of the nappy, they perhaps didn't last as long as our usual nappies (leaked after 12 hour sleep so only used them in the day). My daughter liked the snowman on them!
Yes would probably recommend and yes would buy again if they were cheaper than our usual (Morrisons or Tesco own brand).

GruffaloPants · 18/01/2018 21:21
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

18m. We tried size 4.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

Good, very slim fitting, but more absorbent than other supermarket nappies. No leaks.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, they seem a good all-rounder at a good price. Didn't cause irritation.

JCleRoux · 18/01/2018 22:46
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
DS2 was six weeks old at testing and we used Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
I really liked them! First I was surprised at how soft they are to the touch compared to competing brands. And the price is very competitive too.

The only thing I didn't like too much (but not a deal breaker) was that it was a bit fiddly to undo the velcro straps, especially for the night changes in the dark. I had to undo the velcro a few times more than I am used to to tie the nappy.

I also like the wetness indicator on the outside of the nappy; it takes the guesswork out of finding out if the nappy needs changing or not.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    Absolutely!

  2. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Yes. The material is soft and the price is unbeatable.

EmmaMumsnet · 19/01/2018 11:27

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Baby is 2y 1m and we used 4+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

Very good! Thin out the pack but very soft whereas I find a lot of cheaper nappies a bit scratchy. They were very absorbent. Initially we had no leaks but then we had a leak twice, overnight. Both times the nappy has been saturated so I think it was just too much volume. However I was impressed enough with them that I got size 5 for overnight and they haven’t leaked yet so I think we’re on the size borderline and need the large size for overnight.
The don’t have the horrible chemical smell that pampers do.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I would (and have already bought some to rest the next size up). I tried toujours nappies ages ago and found them rubbish (despite mumsnet raving about them!) so was tentative with these ones. However Lupilu seem softer and less leaky and I’d happily buy again.

newmumwithquestions · 19/01/2018 15:01

*To test not to rest

Modernfamiliesaretough · 19/01/2018 22:51
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
    13 months, size 4

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked the design, they seemed thinner then the others I have used and were therefore not as bulky. However I’m not sure if they were absorbant overnight as others.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes, although think they are better for short daytime use.

  2. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes think they would be good for holiday because they are thinner to carry.

kierie · 20/01/2018 12:02
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 3 years old and we used 5+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? I liked them. There are a good amount in the packet, they felt soft and the design was pleasantly unisex. They were easy to put on with no ripping and tearing.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes. They worked for us. They kept my LO dry all night and didn't leave her sore or irritated.
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Depends on the price, but knowing Lidl, they won't be too unreasonable!
MummySurgeon · 20/01/2018 18:58
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?
We used them on both my 1 year old and 2 year old. We had the 5+ lupilu nappies to trial.

  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?
They were nice and slim and otherwise pretty standard supermarket own brand nappies.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
    No, I’m afraid not.

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
No - we were fortunate to trial Lidl’s nappy pants and were converts because how impressed we were by them. So I had high hopes for these nappies (and before we got chosen to trial these, I even asked my mum, who lives near a Lidl to stock up on the nappy pants - she mistakenly bought the toujour pants instead which really didn’t compare at all and were pretty average at most). Although I think these nappies perform better than the standard toujour nappies, they still didn’t compare to the nappy pants we trialled. We couldn’t use them as an overnight nappy because they regularly leaked and so would only use them during the day. Even then, when they got wet/full, they didn’t fit so well and tended to sag a fair amount. So sorry - not for us, but thanks for letting us try them out!

radmum81 · 21/01/2018 19:48

I used all the sizes on my daughters and found them to be excellent value
