This thread is for the 280 Mumsnetters who tested Lidl Lupilu Nappies with their DCs. If you're wondering where to get the best bargains for baby products, Mumsnetters' have picked out their favourite buys from the Lupilu range here

The following items were tested:
Size 1 Newborn Nappies 24 pack £1.09
Size 2 Newborn Mini Nappies 44 pack £2.19
Size 3 Midi (4-9kg) 56 pack £3.49
Size 4 Maxi (7-18kg) 50 pack £3.49
Size 4+ Maxi Plus Nappies (9-20kg) 44 pack £3.49
Size 5+ Junior Plus Nappies (13-27kg) 36 pack £3.09
Size 6+ Extra Large Plus Nappies (16+kg) 26 pack £3.29

Here’s what Lidl have to say about the product:
"Lidl knows the most important things when choosing a nappy are dryness, protection and comfort. That's why we ensure ultimate dryness and leakage protection, and last year Mumsnetters asked for a wetness indicator on size 1 Newborn Nappies, so we added one!”

“There is no need to pay a premium price for a premium nappy, our prices are low but our quality is high. Our nappies are dermatologically tested, latex free, skin-friendly and independently tested. Protecting the environment is also important, therefore the padding used is from sustainably managed forests. The slim design means less materials, less packaging and less energy, helping to minimise our carbon footprint.”

Below are some questions we’d like you to answer, but feel free to add any other comments you may have.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

oliversax · 11/01/2018 19:00

18 month old, size 5+.

I really liked the nappies. At first I thought it was a small pack as they are so compact. The fit is really good. I usually use pampers for their absorbency because DD has very sensitive skin but the Lidl nappies were just as good.

I would definitely recommend them and buy them myself. They are good value for money and had everything you’d want in a nappy.

  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?
Yes. I assume they would be cheaper than premium nappies, but worked just as well, perhaps even better.

  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?
Yes. They kept my boy dry and comfortable, and didn't sag - all you need from a nappy.

Thanks for letting us test them.

7 months, size 3

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was very pleasantly surprised. Liked that they weren't bulky or stiff under clothes. Didn't have any leaks, baby was comfortable even after a 13 hour sleep.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Definitely, I already have!

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Absolutely, I would choose these over the brand I was using previously.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

13weeks, size 2.
2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked these nappies, they were a good quality material. I haven't used any brand other than pampers before trying these and was pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The nappies kept baby dry and contained any poos. I also liked the wetness indicator and the appearance with the animal characters. There wasn't anything I disliked really, although did find the tabs a bit tough.
3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would recommend.
4) Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I don't shop at Lidl but if I were to go into a store I probably would buy them.

DryHeave · 12/01/2018 01:57

I was picked as a tester ~a month ago & still haven’t received my tester nappies. I’ve sent several emails, but recent emails haven’t had a reply. Have I missed the opportunity to test/provide feedback/be entered into draw?

turtletum · 12/01/2018 02:45

My baby is 3 months old and was given size 3 nappies.

Positives - cute design, despite being thin they were surprisingly absorbent, few leaks.
Negatives - I felt the width a bit narrower than other brands of the same size, also the sticky tabs were quite small meaning more risk of nappy coming loose with an active baby.

I'd probably not recommend them to friends unless they were very very cheap. They are ok but I think they do feel cheap.

I'm unlikely to buy them. I feel other own brand nappies out perform them and are worth paying slightly more to get a more secure fit.

Wattonearth · 12/01/2018 10:38
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My baby is 10 months old and we have tried size 3

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was very pleased with the nappies in general. I usually by pampers active fit and the same size pack costs £8 so these are less than half the price.
I was really pleased with the softness of them, they didn't seem plasticky or scratchy at all and my daughter was very comfortable in them. i think they came up slightly bigger than pampers as i was starting to think about moving up to a size 4 in them but the lidl ones fitted really well.
They have been great in the day and we have not had any leaks in the day apart from a poonami.... which no nappy could have contained!!
But they have not always lasted over a 12+ stretch over night. But this is ok as I normally buy different ones for day and night

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

i would definitely recommend to a friend

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

i will also be switching to these for her to wear during the day, as it will save me so much money and for the same quality of nappy and comfort they provide it makes sense to.

heebeegb · 12/01/2018 11:21

Size 1 Newborn nappies tested on 9 week old baby.
I was pleased with the overall performance of these nappies never having tried them before. The elasticated band at the back was a particularly good idea as i think my baby had a growth spurt during this trial!
I'd feel happy recommending them and buying them.

KellyMarieTunstall2 · 12/01/2018 12:22
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

Size 2

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I like the name Lupilu. They are very reliable nappies and my baby wore one for 12 hours, with no leaks and I liked this very much about the nappies. They are also slim, and soft. I did not dislike anything about them.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would certainly recommend these nappies.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

I would definitely buy these nappies, as they did not leak at all for either bodily function over a 12 hour period. I felt confident whilst my baby was wearing the nappies, that she would remain dry and everything would be contained until I changed her.

Laulaura · 12/01/2018 13:58
  1. 1 month used size 2
  2. Very good, they were thin and easy to put on, liked the wetness indicator and design on the front.
  3. Yes
  4. Yes, good price, work well and look good. Just as good as other more expensive brands.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

10 months, size 4+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

Really liked the design, felt quite thick and absorbent. Unfortunately he leaked out of them the first night we tried them so we wouldn’t put them on him for bed again but they haven’t made him sore like other brands so we would use in the day when we know we’re going to change him every few hours.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes but I’d probably recommend doing as we will and using his normal brand at night and these in the day.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes but for daytime use only.

Thanks for letting me try them!

HashtagTired · 13/01/2018 03:45
  1. 4 months. Size 2.

  2. I thought the nappies looked and felt how I’d expect and no different to other nappies. I thought they were very absorbent and overall we liked them. Nothing I disliked.

  3. yes.

  4. yes I would buy them. They were very good nappies.

Mabherick · 13/01/2018 10:45

Survey complete, thanks.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

She is 10 weeks old and I used the size 2 nappy.

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

My first thought was how similar they are to Tesco nappies. The inside is a similar texture. They seemed very leak resistant and comfortable. My little one didn’t have any complaints at change time and they fit really well. Nice and stretchy when putting them on. Good design. They hold a good amount of wee/poo without making baby sore.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes, they seem as good if not better than other nappies we have bought, especially as the little one seems very comfortable in them and we don’t have any middle of the night leakage!

EmberRainbow · 13/01/2018 11:07
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

5 months and size3 (9-20lbs)

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked the thinness of them, meant more could go in nappy bag and also when on less bulky.

The fit was strange, too much nappy between legs and waist was huge (our baby has been fine in other brands size 3 and is well into the weight guidelines for these). As a result breastfed poos were not contained (this is controversial but we have found 2 other brands that cope well with these situations as long as nappy is changed fairly soon after pooing) although wet nappy performance was good.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Sadly not, just because our experience meant we found them unreliable.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Again probably not, the fit wasn't great and the leakage issues led to a few stressful situations whilst out.

I do think the quality is great for the price I'm only disappointed they didn't work for us.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

12 month old, size 4+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I like the the fact that they were not too bulky, nice designs in them & seem to be absorbant so far.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes I would.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

If I was in Lidl I would probably pick a packet up.

  2. There was nothing I didn’t like about them. I liked that they didn’t leak at all and they didn’t go saggy
when full
  1. I would definitely buy them again
  2. I would definitely recommend them. They compare really well to other brands of nappies I have used and are good value

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use? 14 months, size 4+
  2. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Loved how absorbent they are! My son stayed in them longer than our current brand. They were also less ‘bulky’ when wet, which looks better under clothes. The only thing I didn’t like was that the tapes aren’t as stretchy as other nappies we’ve used.
  3. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes, absolutely! I’m really surprised by how much I like them.
  4. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes! They’re cheap, absorbent, and less bulky than other nappies. I am very impressed.
drinkyourmilk · 13/01/2018 16:55
  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

I have a 9 month old and tested size 4

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I was surprised by how good these nappies are. Despite trialling size 4 when I should have asked for size 3 (she grew slower than I had thought!) I found them to be very absorbant, they didn't irritate my babies skin, and weren't at all bulky.
I generally use cloth nappies, but have had to move to disposables while in temporary accommodation, and these have been the best ones I've tried.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yes, absolutely

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yes. I'll be using them until we can go back to cloth, and also overnight.

Padfoot1 · 13/01/2018 21:41
  1. 9 months old and we tested size 3
  2. I was really impressed with the nappies and were much nicer than I expected. There were no leaks, the design was lovely and they were quite close to pampers - soft and not too bulky. Normally use pampers or aldi and they were much nicer than aldi's which are a lot thicker and stiffer. The fit was nice.
  3. Yes I would recommend to friends due to the quality of the nappies and value for money
  4. Yes I would buy as I found them very good quality and the price is also good

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

16months Old.
Size 5+

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I liked that they were quite lightweight and thin. I really liked the printed design on the actual nappy too.
Whilst using these my daughter leaked through them during the night on 2 occasions. Both times she did not wake up but as we co-slept, I could feel the wetness on her and sure enough there was a large wet patch underneath her when I checked. Both times the nappy itself wasn’t extremely full as I would have expected. This is my second child and at 16months I definitely know the correct way to put on a nappy, I.e making sure the frills around the nappy legs have been “pulled out” etc. The nappy was the correct size too.
During the day, we had a poo leak too. The nappy was also fairly dry but for some reason the poo moved up and out of the nappy whilst my daughter was squatting. This hasn’t happened with our normal nappy brand.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

No.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

No. I’ll go back to what we currently use as we have not had leaks or poo explosions in months. I was fairly unimpressed by the first leak during the night and put it down to a coincidence but the second overnight leak and the poo leak have made it clear to me that the nappy is the problem.

  1. How old is your baby/ child who you tested the nappies on, and which size did you use?

My baby is 12 weeks and i have been using size 2

  1. What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them?

I LOVE these nappies! We normally use Pampers but we are converted... even the nannies have commented on how good they are and they are not easily pleased.

  1. Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation?

Yeah i have done a few times already.

  1. Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why?

Yeah infact I am going to buy more tomorrow now i have run out

As an added extra the elasticated back on these nappies are genious! My son is a very active kicker and a normal nappy comes loose very quickly but these give him enough stretch.

muffmuff · 14/01/2018 17:55

My son is 11 months we had size 4+
I liked the design on them and the fact they didn't feel or smell chemically. Also they were the nappies I've used that do not leak at nighttime
I would recommend
I will be using these nappies from now on they are brilliant and great value as well

Sparkles23 · 14/01/2018 20:01

2) What was your overall impression of Lidl’s Lupilu Nappies? What did you like and what, if anything, did you dislike about them? Great! Good size and fit and liked that the sticky tabs were bigger than my usual brand and very secure. Liked the price too, much cheaper.
3) Would you recommend these nappies to a friend if they came up in conversation? Yes
4) Would you buy Lidl Lupilu Nappies again in the future? If so why? Yes I would as they are great value and serve their purpose well, they even worked overnight with no leaks. When I’m in Lidl I will certainly pick some up.
