JimJams asked us to find 250 Mumsnetters to test their hazelnut chocolate spread. Each lucky tester was sent one 350g jar of the low sugar spread to share with their families, spread on toast and eat with a spoon. Read the comments below to find out what they thought!

Here’s what JimJams co-founder, Kellie Bath, has to say about the 83% Less Sugar Hazelnut Chocolate Spread: "As a mum, I was shocked at the amount of sugar found in most chocolate spreads (the equivalent of 57 sugar cubes per 400g jar). I decided to create a range of spreads that tasted amazing but with a fraction of the sugar (83% less sugar than leading brands!).

Our chocolate spreads are available in hazelnut and milk chocolate varieties. They have won Great Taste Awards, are kinder to teeth and are gluten free.

We use Maltitol to sweeten our spreads which is derived from a natural source (not artificial). It has nearly half of the calories than sugar, is kinder on teeth and diabetic friendly.

The tiny amount of palm oil used (one third palm to two thirds rapeseed) is fully sustainable and certified by the RSPO."

  1. Did you and your family enjoy the taste of JimJams spread?

DH and smallest DC did, eldest DC was not keen though. I personally found it a bit too 'nutty' tasting, it overwhelmed the chocolate flavour for me.

  1. Does knowing that JimJams hazelnut chocolate spread contains 83% less sugar than the leading brands make you think differently about purchasing the product?

Yes, I feel much more comfortable giving this to the kids and DH, who is diabetic, so for him this felt like a real indulgence.

  1. Did anything surprise you about the chocolate spread?

I was suprised my very fussy youngest liked it so much, whilst chocoholic eldest did not!

  1. Would you purchase this product for your family again?

Yes, DH was a particular fan. Although eldest didn't enjoy it, I would still purchase it for DH and youngest DC.

  1. JimJams are thinking about adding some new products to their chocolate spread range. Can you think of any flavours, such as white chocolate, that you and your family would like to try?

Chocolate orange, and a pure choc spread with no nut flavourings.

  1. Would you swap your usual brand of chocolate spread for JimJams?

Definitely.

I only just found my spread in the bottom of the wheelie bin on Sunday!
We have tried it out on pancakes and on toast.

  1. Did you and your family enjoy the taste of JimJams spread?

Yes, we all liked it - particularly good on pancakes with slices of pear!

  1. Does knowing that JimJams hazelnut chocolate spread contains 83% less sugar than the leading brands make you think differently about purchasing the product?

I would certainly be more likely to buy it than I would Nutella - though I do prefer dark chocolate to milk chocolatey spreads.

  1. Did anything surprise you about the chocolate spread?

I was worried about the consistency more than the taste, but it was fine, melted easily on toast and pancakes.

  1. Would you purchase this product for your family again?

Yes, I have seen they stock it in my local shop and I would definitely consider buying it again.

  1. JimJams are thinking about adding some new products to their chocolate spread range. Can you think of any flavours, such as white chocolate, that you and your family would like to try? Definitely dark chocolate.

  1. Would you swap your usual brand of chocolate spread for JimJams?

I wouldn't necessarily swap, but I will definitely alternate occasionally - I think it is cheaper than the one I generally buy (Biona), which is a bonus.

  1. Did you and your family enjoy the taste of JimJams spread?

Yes, we all liked it. A bit sweet for me but it was good spread thinly on tart apple slices & orange segments. DD & DH loved it & I doubt the jar will last very long...

  1. Does knowing that JimJams hazelnut chocolate spread contains 83% less sugar than the leading brands make you think differently about purchasing the product?

It would depend on the price - chocolate spread isn't a regular feature in our cupboards - but I'd probably choose it over Nutella.

  1. Did anything surprise you about the chocolate spread?

It was softer than I'd anticipated (could be the warm weather though). Melted very easily on toast. I quite like that it's softer than some other chocolate spreads, as it's easier to spread on bread; some spreads just tear the bread.

  1. Would you purchase this product for your family again?

I would definitely consider buying it again.

  1. JimJams are thinking about adding some new products to their chocolate spread range. Can you think of any flavours, such as white chocolate, that you and your family would like to try? Definitely dark chocolate (the darker the better, as long as it's spreadable & not full of horrible unpronounceable chemicals I don't recognise). I don't have much of a sweet tooth, TBH... I don't even sweeten my cocoa.

  1. Would you swap your usual brand of chocolate spread for JimJams? We don't really have a usual brand; in our house, chocolate spread is "holiday food" so we might only buy it a couple of times per year. But I'd definitely consider buying this as long as the price was reasonable (and as a holiday food I might be a bit more inclined to get the nicest one available). So, in short, yes.

1: we absolutely loved the taste of Jimjams chocolate spread. I wouldn't have known it had 83% less sugar from the other brands. Everyone who has tasted this amazing spread, said it absolutely delicious. They couldn't tell the difference between this one and our usual option, Nutella.

2: knowing it has 83 % less sugar, than the leading brand, has definitely made me think of buying this brand instead of the leading brand. It's definitely, great value for money, I would highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to cut down on sugar intake, without compromising taste. It's kinder to your teeth. This would cheer up any parent and child. My niece has been advised to cut down her sugar content for her teeth, she loves chocolate spread, and hasn't been having it since she was advised by her dentist. She was so excited when I told her that it had 83% less sugar than the usual brand, and therefore, kinder to your teeth and satisfies your taste buds. She has confirmed that she is now able to enjoy Jimjams chocolate hazelnut spread, due to the % of less sugar.

3: I was really surprised by the taste, of Jim Jams chocolate spread. I was expecting it to be, obviously less sweeter, and not as tasty as Nutella, I thought it's going to taste, more different from the leading brand. I was seriously in for a surprise when I tasted it, and couldn't even tell the difference, between this and my usual option, Nutella. I was also suprised of the fact, that it's gluten free. My other niece is currently on a gluten free diet. She's only 7 years old. But she is very intelligent and was so grateful that she could enjoy the Jim jams chocolate spread. We have found that gluten free products are expensive, and have a lack, of choice for gluten free snacks and foods for young children. I'm so grateful to see this product not being ridiculously expensive just because it's gluten free.

4: I will definitely be purchasing this product again. I usually wait for products like this to be on a special offer price and buy it in bulk, given how much my boys and family get through, in a short period of time.

5: I would certainly appreciate it, if Jimjams created more flavours and variety. I would love to recommend a, peanut butter and chocolate chocolate spread combination. I'm curious about a raspberry jam and chocolate hazelnut flavour. I would definitely consider trying it in a hazelnut chocolate fudge and caramel flavour. 🍫 🍊 Hazelnut chocolate orange flavour, lnspired by Terrys chocolate orange. Banoffee flavour, cookie dough flavour and possibly hazelnut chocolate, cinnamon and apple flavour. Chocolate gingrerbread flavour, chocolate brownie flavour and chocolate fruits and nuts flavour. Popping 🍭 candy flavour? I would happily try these suggestions.

6: I would definitely swap my usual option for Jimjams, based on the benefits of less sugar, gluten free, kinder to teeth, I really like that it is so much easier to spread than Nutella chocolate spread. Especially when it's cold. We love #Jimjams #Hazelnut #ChocolateSpread #83%lesssugar #glutenfree #ApprovedByParents #mumsnetinsight. #rated ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🏆🎉🍫🍭🥞🥐🍯🍞🥖🍩🍪🍦🍰🍨🍩🍡🍓🍏🍌🍒🍊🍇🥜🥑🍶🥛☕️🍣👌🏼❤️🍫💋

Overall I really enjoyed this opportunity to review this product. I will definitely be recommending this to my family and friends. I would love to collaborate with Jimjams for editorial content. I would also like to participate in any further trials from Jimjams brand. Thank you so much for the amazing experience and making my nieces and nephews extremely happy.
