Mind Candy asked us to recruit MNers with at least one DC aged 5-8 to test their new subscription service, containing fun Moshi-themed activities and games. The boxes work in conjunction with the Moshi Egg Hunt Mobile Game, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Selected testers were sent a letter from Moshlingologist Buster Bumblechops, enlisting their DCs to help in a quest to retrieve a special stolen egg. This was then followed up by the first in a series of Mystery Boxes, containing crafts and activities.

Here’s what Mind Candy have said about the product: ‘The experience begins when your DC receives an exciting personalised letter in the post, in which Buster Bumblechops explains that a very special Moshling egg has been stolen and that he’ll soon be sending a Moshi Mystery Box, jam-packed with clues, activities and missions. The first box contains fun art and craft activities, Moshi collectables, a comic strip, jokes and much more. And if you decide to sign up, there will be two more Moshi Mystery Boxes to follow.

A simple story runs across all three boxes, taking your child on a quest across Monstro City. Each box is also themed - box one is the Frostipop Glacier, two is Potion Ocean and three is all about the Gombala Gombala Jungle! The first box will also contain a pack of trading cards that can be scanned to unlock exclusive characters in the 100% free Moshi Monsters Egg Hunt Mobile Game!’

Testers - if you’ve been sent your mystery box, please leave your feedback on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Thanks for taking part and good luck with the prize draw.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

They loved receiving the letter last week and was really excited after school to open the box.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
DS loved the balloons. TBH the box of goodies confused him. He didn't really understand what it all was and the activity was too difficult for him to do alone (age 6)
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

He tried to download on his kindle but failed. I will attempt on my iPad but I fear the excitement has worn off.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Much too expensive. Even if you look at what's in box and price individually it's very expensive. Especially compared to things like geek box x

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He struggled the understand it if I'm honest. The story seems complicated especially for a 6 year old!
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I'm sorry I won't be upgrading.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Cheaper Age related activities Simpler stories

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? He was so excited to get post addressed to him. Then he nagged me about the box for a week!
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? His main moshi toy. It's the sort of toy he will forget about then return to.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? He loves games but hasn't asked to yet. I'm sure we will do.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? I found this subscription confusing. So it's only two more boxes in total? What's the point? I'd rather buy one big moshi box of crafts than a subscription that is only three boxes long. And as everyone else say it is too expensive. I would be comparing this to other craft subs before purchasing and I believe others are much cheaper.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? He loved the personalised letter and getting a box full of different 'bits'. He nagged us about the crafts until we did them. He loved the ice task.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? We won't.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? Cheaper or a better thought out subscription. At the moment it feels like a last-ditch attempt to popularise Moshis again, rather than a decent craft product that might still be around in a year. He did really like it though!
Iambubbles86 · 19/06/2017 20:46

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
He knew the letter and box were coming so was quite excited when they arrived

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The moshi monster but no he hasn't played with it again
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes the mobile game is good fun for all ages.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Massively overpriced, I could have got all the equipment for less than a couple of quid myself. I wouldn't pay more than £5 for the prescription. Even my 7 year old said "not worth it mum" when I said due to the price I'd have to forgo his usual Friday magazine treat to pay for the other boxes
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Rather anticlimactic. He did one activity and lost interest
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Not at all, I also think the way it was worded was very underhanded, it seemed to a child reading as if the boxes were already on their way.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Better content, faster provision of the boxes, cheaper price.
abcxyz123 · 19/06/2017 20:47
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My five year old DD was excited to get post and loved the Moshi Mail stamp. I thought the wait for the box was rather long, but she was still asking about it when it arrived a week later. She opened the box straight away and took everything out (muddling it up)
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
She loved the balloon activity and has been asking to do it again. She likes the tiny moshlings too.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? We haven't downloaded the game, as the instructions on how to do this weren't immediately obvious (perhaps I have missed something)
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Very expensive for what it is. I definitely would not purchase.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
She really enjoyed receiving the letter and the box, but the novelty wore off quite quickly. I am not sure she would get excited if she was to receive another one.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Definitely not.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
The contents of the box was quite confusing and it wasn't immediately clear which info sheets related to which activity. Also my DD wasn't interested by the story or colouring, or anything else that was in the big pile of papers. More explanation is needed on the relevance of each item in the box, I think.
redstararnie76 · 19/06/2017 20:55

- What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My 7 year old son couldn't contain his excitement and immediately tore open both items. I deliberately hadn't told him as we've been involved in something a little similar before and it didn't turn up.
- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The ice eggs - he loved making them. The box turned up on Saturday and he is still going back to it.
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
He really liked the game.
- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
That feels a bit expensive - though many would probably think we were tight with what we are prepared to pay for this sort of thing. Think £9.99 for two boxes would be more reasonable
- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
My son loved the whole experience, and really got into it. He really seemed to get a lot out of it.
- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
My son would love to continue with it, but I feel it is too expensive.
- How do you think the experience could be improved?
A more durable box or bag so we can tidy it away and store things together.

Lovelongweekends · 19/06/2017 20:59

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Dd was so excited, the day the box arrived was apparently the best day ever!!

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The little moshling was the favourite but was forgotten about quite quickly.

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
No, it was too big for my phone.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Much too expensive for not very much content really. £9.99 for both may be more reasonable.

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
The anticipation of waiting for the box was the best bit, the rest was a bit confusing and there wasn't really much to it, the initial excitement soon wore off.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Not likely I'm afraid.

How do you think the experience could be improved?
Cheaper, more activities, more cohesive i.e. letter that gives actual instructions of what to do.

Bokky · 19/06/2017 21:00

- What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
DD was very excited to receive both but felt the box took too long to arrive after the letter

- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
She liked the 2 experiments and the little figurines. She has been back to the box a few times since we received it on Saturday.

- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
No we have not downloaded the game.

- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think that is too expensive. We did look at buying the next boxes as she liked the first so much but the price put us off so we did not buy. The contents are not worth £9.99.

- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
She really liked the experience - she loved receiving the personalised letter and box. However, her experience was short lived as we will not be buying the next 2 boxes because of the price.

- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely (unless the price was reduced)

- How do you think the experience could be improved?

  • Shorter time between the letter and box arriving
  • Lower priced subsequent boxes
SasBel · 19/06/2017 21:16

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Opened the letter, very excited to have received post addressed to her! Waited for days for the box to arrive.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The moshi toy, and yes, lives in her pocket.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes, she played on the app for about 10 minutes on Saturday and Sunday, not played on it today.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Way too expensive, have used Toucan and Weekend Box for much less than that!
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Liked the personalisation, bit meh at the box and app. Salt was not necessary to dissolve the ice, but the idea was ok.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Not at all, way too pricey.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Cheaper, better craft (eg more painting, dyes for real eggs, more colouring, colour your own paper, split pin to make a hatching egg etc) More punctual post!

Thanks for letting us try the moshi box!

MakeTeaNotWar · 19/06/2017 21:21
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

DD 6 was over the moon to receive a letter addressed to her - I hadn't told her it was coming. We read it together and she was ecstatic if perhaps not quite sure what was expected of her. When the box itself arrived, she was thrilled to bits and set cracking straight away on the two activities in the paper bags.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

She loved the cards and the little moshling, definitely still playing with that.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Yes - she enjoyed it but it didn't hold her attention for as long as I thought it would.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I am horrified at the price! Definitely not worth that - worth £3-4 at the very most. While it's fun to get a personalised letter and box delivered to your home, there is more value and activities in a kids magazine with their various freebies.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

Really fun and exciting for her but stuff like the word search and the jokes were ignored, they were too much like the Y2 homework she gets. She enjoyed the activities but the paint with only 2 colours felt a bit mean.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

No sorry, too expensive and not worth the cost.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Price could be lower and the whole thing a bit clearer, it felt bitty and chaotic. I feel really ungrateful - it was fun to test but I wouldn't be happy to pay for it.
Intotheclouds · 19/06/2017 21:21
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
DS was very excited to receive both but felt the box took too long to arrive after the letter. Once it did arrive he ran inside and looked through everything quite quickly.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The 2 experiments and the little figurines.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
No we have not downloaded the game.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think that is too expensive. The contents in the box are not worth £9.99.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He really liked it. He loved receiving the personalised letter and box. But was only really entertained by it for a short while.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Very unlikely.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Taking less time between receiving the letter and box arriving and not being so expensive for the next boxes.
PinPon · 19/06/2017 21:23

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

DD was delighted to get her letter and excited about the box arriving. She spotted the box in the post, ripped it open and was reading the comic strips and colouring in pictures before I'd even noticed!

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

Moshlings and the frozen balloon egg activity. The comic strips came a close second. The cards haven't really excited her.

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Not yet. We limit screen time during the week so haven't had the opportunity yet.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

It's a bit pricey!

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

The letter and box were well designed and attractive to DD.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?*

Probably not.

How do you think the experience could be improved?

I would prefer less emphasis on the online game.

Nigglenaggle · 19/06/2017 21:26

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
They were so excited to receive a letter each (thank you for that!). I had to read the letters at least 5times and they kept trying to get a better look at the map.

- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Definitely the moshlings and yes they love them.

- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Oddly no. I read out to them that there was a game and normally the older one would be chomping at the bit. Maybe they were a bit overwhelmed. I was relieved!

- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Bit steep. Although I'm aware that the Moshlings and cards aren't cheap and I was chuffed they were included.

- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
There was high excitement after the letter and they enjoyed the box.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I went in well prepared to buy one for each of them, but they haven't mentioned it. I'm reluctant to subscribe without pushing from them - we've had the normal weekend boxes before and the unsubscribing process annoyed me - harder to find the necessary information than it should be.

- How do you think the experience could be improved?
If I were paying I'd like an option to have mininiggle and mininaggle in the same box, as not everything in there needed two copies and the letter would have been more authentic coming to both. Obviously would still expect to pay extra.

I think I imagined the box would be less crafty and more puzzle solving. The littler one has enjoyed the activities (older one doesn't do craft) but they don't seem linked to the storyline in a meaningful way. I'd have liked the story to be stronger, if that makes sense, so it feels like the activities contribute to helping Buster. They loved the moshi and the cards, but I could have bought those separately. I think if the storyline and puzzle were emphasised more, they'd be worrying about where the next box was and I'd have to buy it!

mata777 · 19/06/2017 21:27

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

My son loved the personalization and quickly explored everything in the box and almost lost the smallest monster straight away (luckily we found it...).

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The monsters. We froze the monsters in balloons - that was his favourite activity.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

My son liked the game but his camera wont focus enough to scan the codes. We will try again, its probably the camera's fault not the codes.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Way too costly.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

Nice but not enough to keep him interested for too long.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Not likely. Sorry.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved? Make it cheaper, please...
annieno1 · 19/06/2017 21:32
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
She was full f excitement when the letter came and double excited when the box came she waiting on the post man everyday until it came.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Has to be the little monsters she just loves them
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes we downloaded it from Apple she loved it and was so happy and found it very fun and interesting
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think it reasonable given the fun and the peace I get when she is playing with the box
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Looking having something arrive in the post with her name she loved it all especially hatching the egg
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Yes very likely especially with summer holidays coming
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Nothing she loved it all. Included a picture of the eggs been hatched
Belmo · 19/06/2017 21:32
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

Dd (5) was sooo excited when she got her letter! She even took it up to bed with her, although did keep asking if I thought it was really real. She was beyond excited when the box turned up. Having the personalised letter first was a lovely touch.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The little moshi monster probably, and yes she is. Her favourite part is definitely the game, though.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Yes, and she loves it. Absolutely obsessed!

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I can't believe it's so expensive! Am a bit gutted, as dd is looking forward to getting the next two but there's no way I can justify that much, I would have expected maybe £5 each.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

Absolutely loved it, it was magical for her.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Sadly I don't feel I can afford it, I'm sad though as I'd like to. But that is really far too expensive.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

I agree with a pp that it's a little chaotic when you open the box. And a little more in the way of clues about the egg, perhaps- dd was about ready to pack a bag and go out looking for it!

DressMe · 19/06/2017 21:33
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Bounced around the room! He was so excited!
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
He absolutely loved the frozen egg in the balloon and we've done it a couple of times since (especially in this heat!). He also loved the Moshi toy, and has played with it a fair bit.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We tried but it wouldn't fit on my phone.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Most of the box is simply printed paper, and I feel like it's a lot of money for not a lot. One of the activities was a paper bag with two balloons, two tiny figures and a pipette. The other was a paper egg to cut out, with two sachets of paint. I feel it's a expensive for what it is.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He loved it! He loved getting his own post with his name on it, and that the letters were addressed to him. The activities were aimed just right for him and although he needed a little help, it didn't feel like I was doing it all for him. He enjoyed being able to do most of it himself.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I know he'd love it, but I'm put off by the price.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
I'd like to see a variety of different activities and I'd like them to be aimed at the right age to allow him to do as much as he can for himself. I'd also like it to be cheaper!
lhlee62 · 19/06/2017 21:36
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
The first letter came a few days before the box and she was so excited. She was able to read quite a lot of the letter herself and she loved that ti twas addressed to her. She was really excited when the post man came looking for her box in with the letters. When it finally came it was great that it came on the weekend so we could get it open and play with it straight away.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
We loved the tiny little Moshligs, she refused to part with them and I had to barter with her to get one off her to put in the balloon to put in the freezer!
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? I haven't yet as I'm reluctant to let her play with my phone a lot, but I'm thinking it will help entertain her in the 6 week holiday.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? I'm not sure if its worth the money, I wouldn't pay that much. I think the most I would pay is £6.99 and then I would expect one or tow more toys in the box.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? She enjoyed the mystery and the suspence of waiting for the post man to come. She loved receiving post with her name on and the packing was really colourful which really engaged her.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Probably not as I can get more toys that she can choose herself for the same money.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? More toys to play with and I'm not really sure of the point of the frozen egg and the painting, it didn't really link in.
strawberrypenguin · 19/06/2017 21:57

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Was very excited, looked at all the pictures on the box and then open the bags and pulled all the activities out

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Loved playing with the plastic moshi toys and they 'ice eggs' were a huge hit. Loved the collector cards too - Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? Loves the app. Very excited about being able to hatch a new egg every day
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think this is a bit expensive for what is in the box (depending on pricing of the individual card packs when they are released. Would have preferred about £7 a box
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Loved the personalisation but I think the story wasn't really clear enough for 5yo
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Still undecided.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? Delivery time between initial letter and box could be a bit faster. DS would have loved another plastic figure (and I would buy these for him if they were available in shops again)
BigBroIsWatching · 19/06/2017 22:00

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My son was expecting it so was checking the list, excitedly, every morning! It finally arrived when he was at school, so he waited all day to open it. He loved the fact it was personalised to him, and not just a generic letter.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The little mosh longs. He liked unwrapping the envelopes and working out what to do with all the bits and bobs inside.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We did. He was enthusiastic at first, but for some reason, didn't want to continue using it?
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Ouch! A tad on the expensive side. To be honest, two boxes at £9.99 would have sufficed.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He actually enjoyed the idea and looked for ward to receiving it. However, he thought there would be an actual egg to excavate (!) so was slightly underwhelmed when he realised it would involve an app etc. There's no pleasing the kid!
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Probably unlikely, based upon the price and the unlikelyhood that he would carry on with it.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?A cheaper subscription service, for a start. My nephew felt like they were quite old as he played with them years ago. Maybe. New characters?
kod88 · 19/06/2017 22:04
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

My son was very excited to open it up and complete the activities.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The little Moshi toy.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

My son downloaded the app on his iPad but it constantly crashed so made it null and void, he couldn't scan the cards either because of this so was left not able to use them.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

NOOOOOOO way too expensive, for some bits of paper and a couple of balloons?! I could do that stuff myself for a LOT cheaper.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

The personalised letter was a nice touch. But the rest was complete let down. My son got so easily bored with it and frustrated that the app didn't work so literally half the box was useless.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Not at all, it's extortionate for what it is, totally not worth the money.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Don't do cheap crafts and activities that I can do at home myself for way cheaper, improve the app and add more to the box if you're going to charge the ridiculous price.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

The letter was very exciting as it was personalised. My son loved it and it was great to get a letter in advance of the box.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

the moshling itself was the favourite item. THe other activities are also great and really engaging - we're still working our way through them.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Not yet! Will do though as its the sort of thing my son loves.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I think the kids would want it mainly for the moshling rather than the other activities etc. On that basis it is pricey for a moshling. We used to collect the other moshlings which used to be around £5 for a pack of 5 so this seems a relatively high price for this sort of box. They've also have had subscription boxes in the past and the price ranged from £3 - £5 so £9.99 is too much to commit to.

Having said that my older son (who was too old for this trial age range) has shown massive interest in it and has asked for the 3 boxes for his birthday. Haven't found if there is a way of ordering box 1 for him specifically other than via this mumsnet trial - only details online seem to be for box 2 and 3.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

I have to admit I was beginning to worry about the delay between letter and box. It arrived on the saturday rather than during the week which is what we had been expecting.

The personalisation is great. Really appeals to kids. Makes it feel really special to them. And unique too - i'm not sure if there's anything else quite like this out there.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
We're currently considering it for my eldest son (not in this trial but he's very interested in it )
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

The ice moshling activity is great - really well loved! And fun to do in this hot weather!

Things like colouring in sheets are never of any interest to my kids.

I think the in -game element would appeal more to certain age groups (slightly older?) and the actual activities etc perhaps to a different age group (around aged 5-6 mark) but i know this was specifically aimed at 5-8 so i suppose within that range it works well overall.

I wonder if more links with the original moshi monsters online game would help resurrect popularity / interest in the game? It is an amazing concept and it's such a shame that it no longer seems to have that mass popular appeal that it had in its hey day.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My son was so excited to receive the letter as it was addressed to him. He was even more excited when the box appeared through the letter box and ripped it open there and then.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The little see through moshi monster is his favourite, he wanted to take it to school to show his friends.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? We did although it kept crashing on the iPad which made playing difficult.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
If I'm honest, I think that's too expensive for the content.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He loved it, especially the scanning of the cards into the app. He loved making the balloons and seeing which method helped them melt quicker.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I don't think I will be subscribing for the boxes as they are expensive for what you get.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
*The boxes could be better priced or the contents could be worth the price. Look into why the app kept crashing on the iPad.

Thank you for choosing us.*

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

Very intrigued by the letter, excited waiting for the box and asked every day if it had arrived. It arrived Saturday and he was excited to open it.

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

He liked the little moshlings and the frozen egg activity. The moshlings are scattered around the house now.

Did you download the mobile game ? How did they find it?
We have not downloaded it yet. The weather was too good at the weekend to be indoors on an iPad but we may download it at a later date.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
This is too expensive for the contents, and it didn't occupy him for long.

What did your DC think of the overall mystery box experience and personalisation?
He liked that the letter was addressed to him, but I think the point of it was a bit lost on him. The activities were a bit basic and he lost interest.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely as the price is too high. DS would be keen but only because he likes the fact that it's sent to him, not because he is particularly entertained by the activities.

How do you think the experience could be improved?

The frozen egg activity and the moshlings egg painting are things that can be done with basic crafting supplies, the contents would need to be more unusual/imaginative to make it worthwhile.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? She squealed with delight the fact it came addressed to her made it so much more exciting.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? The moshling (It's currently in the freezer in the balloon for us to defrost this evening after school.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? I will be downloading it after school we have had a busy few days.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? I do think they are very expensive to be honest I'm still deciding whether to order the next 2 boxes for during the summer holidays for s special treat activity or spend the £17.99 on craft stuff.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? Loved it makes it all the more special to my little girl.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
At the minute I'm 50/50 and will decide within the next week.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? A bit more to do in the box to be honest, a colouring book or notepad so the child could write down what they have done so far.

Thank you so much for choosing us to test the box it's been exciting for my little girl having something arrive in her name rather than me ordering something and just giving it to her.
