Mind Candy asked us to recruit MNers with at least one DC aged 5-8 to test their new subscription service, containing fun Moshi-themed activities and games. The boxes work in conjunction with the Moshi Egg Hunt Mobile Game, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Selected testers were sent a letter from Moshlingologist Buster Bumblechops, enlisting their DCs to help in a quest to retrieve a special stolen egg. This was then followed up by the first in a series of Mystery Boxes, containing crafts and activities.

Here’s what Mind Candy have said about the product: ‘The experience begins when your DC receives an exciting personalised letter in the post, in which Buster Bumblechops explains that a very special Moshling egg has been stolen and that he’ll soon be sending a Moshi Mystery Box, jam-packed with clues, activities and missions. The first box contains fun art and craft activities, Moshi collectables, a comic strip, jokes and much more. And if you decide to sign up, there will be two more Moshi Mystery Boxes to follow.

A simple story runs across all three boxes, taking your child on a quest across Monstro City. Each box is also themed - box one is the Frostipop Glacier, two is Potion Ocean and three is all about the Gombala Gombala Jungle! The first box will also contain a pack of trading cards that can be scanned to unlock exclusive characters in the 100% free Moshi Monsters Egg Hunt Mobile Game!’

Testers - if you’ve been sent your mystery box, please leave your feedback on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Thanks for taking part and good luck with the prize draw.

My dc came home and opened up the letter she was very excited to get a letter addressed to her (I haven't told her anything about getting selected for this campaign as I wanted it to be a surprise) Only, it wasn't the letter about the egg hunt box but 2 packs of trading cards. My daughter is super excited (although very confused) to receive them. Just wondering when the actual letter & box will arrive now lol

Agoz · 10/07/2017 20:44

Girls got super super excited! Idea to receive a mysterious letter on their name was great!
And they kept asking whether the box has arrived or not for a week!
They both loved the most little Moshi monster toys
App wasn't interseting enough and don't like them to play w phones/tablets anyway
Found the price high, I would not considered to subscribe it as have to pay for both of my daughters.
They've got bored pretty quickly though.
But thank you all for to have a chance to experiment it!
Regards

_What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box

I thought the initial letter was such a lovely idea- my boys were super excited that they were going to receive a box. Every day they would ask if the post had been, over a week later it arrived!! They were very excited that they had received something addressed to them!

They were very excited about the contents of the box. Everything got opened all at once and jumbled up. However they did get bored quite quickly and seemed more excited just to get something in the post.

We didn't download the app- so can't comment on that. I try to discourage screens.

I think the price is far too high! The box was not worth 9.99 and I certainly wouldn't pay that.

I definately wouldn't subscribe- the price is far too high for what you get. I would suggest an rrp of 4.99. 9.99 is quite laughable.

How could it be improved?
Perhaps a little booklet of instructions rather than sheets of paper that get lost quickly. More substance. Maybe a story book or booklet. I think it was a little disappointing after the initial excitement and build up from the letter.

Thanks for letting us try-

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? Jumped and swirled with excitement then ripped them open
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The cards
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
They weren't very interested
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?far too expensive for what's in the box
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?really like them and thought they were really exciting, loved gettting the letter in advance of the box coming.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?no I won't because of the cost
  • How do you think the experience could be improved. The box could be better organised as everything was jumbled when opened.
kirsti123 · 13/07/2017 19:26

Never received anything despite being picked to try. Very disappointed

sarahbanshee · 14/07/2017 07:47

The initial letter was great - so exciting and nicely done. My 5yo couldn't wait to find out what came next.

The box was a bit less of a success. It was a bit confusing what to do; we struggled to work out how the app worked and the codes were not at all clear. The activities were fun but we didn't have enough moshlings to do the balloon activity. The most successful thing was just playing with the little moshlings!

I won't subscribe because I think the price is far too expensive. It was diverting and fun but no more so than a kids' magazine at 2.50.

missytilley · 15/07/2017 07:42

Thank you for the extra Trading Cards and Code Grin

Yerroblemom1923 · 16/07/2017 00:28

Still not received anything and we had an email saying we'd been chosen...disappointed, not impressed. Much as I'd like to comment more, with the lack of Moshi Mystery Box , I can't.

drsholmes · 17/07/2017 22:48

I still do not have the letter or the box Sad

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 18/07/2017 21:03

Still not received ours. Had several emails from MN saying how sorry they are and have passed my details to Mind Candy. Still nothing.

Not impressed.

starlight36 · 20/07/2017 13:07

I promised I'd get my two DC the remaining boxes (between them as they'd shared the first one we'll) but they are currently showing as unavailable. Can Mumsnet or Mind Candy advise when we'll be able to purchase them? I'd agree with the general consensus that there are other products available which are better value but my DC really did share the box well and it is the one app game which engages them both equally and they have been playing with it nicely (and calmly!) together so was prepared to buy the next two boxes at the combined price for some peace over the summer holidays.

Yerroblemom1923 · 21/07/2017 14:40

Still nothing.....in spite of emails saying or details have been passed to MindCandy

MillyMollyMardy · 23/07/2017 19:46

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
It seems expensive for what you get.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

PoppyMumsnet · 27/07/2017 09:56

The winner of the voucher is kod88! Congrats Smile

BlackeyedPetitsPois · 28/07/2017 21:56

My daughter is so disappointed she didn't get hers!

MummyBtothree · 04/08/2017 14:14

I never got sent anything either which I think is quite disgusting on Mind Candys part as after all, this trial was mainly based around the children and my son was absolutely gutted. No Moshi Mystery Box - no explanation. I certainly won't be purchasing anything to do with Moshi Monsters or Mind Candy again Angry

Mummy2aRockstar · 17/08/2017 00:28

Still haven't received mine and my emails have been left unanswered, sort of pointless to do a product if most of those accepted don't get the actual product.
