Mind Candy asked us to recruit MNers with at least one DC aged 5-8 to test their new subscription service, containing fun Moshi-themed activities and games. The boxes work in conjunction with the Moshi Egg Hunt Mobile Game, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Selected testers were sent a letter from Moshlingologist Buster Bumblechops, enlisting their DCs to help in a quest to retrieve a special stolen egg. This was then followed up by the first in a series of Mystery Boxes, containing crafts and activities.

Here’s what Mind Candy have said about the product: ‘The experience begins when your DC receives an exciting personalised letter in the post, in which Buster Bumblechops explains that a very special Moshling egg has been stolen and that he’ll soon be sending a Moshi Mystery Box, jam-packed with clues, activities and missions. The first box contains fun art and craft activities, Moshi collectables, a comic strip, jokes and much more. And if you decide to sign up, there will be two more Moshi Mystery Boxes to follow.

A simple story runs across all three boxes, taking your child on a quest across Monstro City. Each box is also themed - box one is the Frostipop Glacier, two is Potion Ocean and three is all about the Gombala Gombala Jungle! The first box will also contain a pack of trading cards that can be scanned to unlock exclusive characters in the 100% free Moshi Monsters Egg Hunt Mobile Game!’

Testers - if you’ve been sent your mystery box, please leave your feedback on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Thanks for taking part and good luck with the prize draw.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
DD loved getting post, I had forgotten to tell her about the test so the letter was quite a surprise for her. When the box came she opened it up and went straight for the cards.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
DD loved the cards and little Moshlings, she also really liked the craft activities and had her sisters (3 and 10) joining in.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes, again a hit, DD really enjoys it.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Ouch. I was hoping to continue with the next two boxes but I think this is just too expensive, especially as there does not seem to be any tasks to do to solve the mystery you just collect the codes over 3 boxes and the activities are stand alone.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Really liked it. The presentation was good and loves having post addressed to her.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Not likely, it is just too expensive for me.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
More activities that directly help to solve the mystery as this would give a goal to work towards.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

She opened it very excitedly and got each bit out.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

She likes the little figures and a colouring in page.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

No we didn't. My phone didn't have the app (microsoft) so I couldn't though didn't really want to download it on my phone anyway.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I think it is very expensive for what you get. The majority of activities needed adult help, there was very little my 7 yr old could get on and do on her own.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

I thought the box was nice, I liked the personalised letters and that the box fitted through the letter box.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I won't be upgrading.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

I think the box needs to have more activities kids can get on with themselves and complete without having to wait for an adult for parts. It would make them feel they have achieved something. More toys/figures would probably improve it too. My daughter loved the idea of it but was quite disappointed with the contents, she doesn't usually get bored easily either.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My DD (5) was so excited to receive a letter and then her box. She read that it was for her, ripped it open and asked me to read the letter to her (whilst looking over my shoulder and reading along with me). Then we opened the box and went through each part in turn.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
She loved the moshling figures, and added them to her other games (along with her horse, sheep, dragon and dinosaurs!)
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Not yet, but she has asked me to - haven't had the chance yet.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Whilst my DD loved the box and everything in it, I feel this is way too expensive for what is provided. The figures are the most pricey part if bought separately, and the craft materials, activity sheets etc are quite simple. I'd have thought a box should be £5 or less to be considered value for money.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
She loved it. That it was addressed to her and had her details made it really special for her.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Very unlikely. She did love the box and everything in it, but her interest waned and she hasn't said she wants to know what happens or discover the end of the story. And £18 for two more boxes is a bit steep.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
The price per box should be reduced. The covering letter was also quite long - perfect for an older child, perhaps, but as I read it I summarised it to my 5-year old as it was a bit too long/detailed for her in places.
OnMyShoulders · 26/06/2017 10:29
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

He tore it all open and kind of threw aside the paper, looking looking for the 'stuff'. He liked the moshling and was very interested in what was inside the two little packets.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The balloons. Yes, still playing with them.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

He'd lost interest before we got as far as downloading the game.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Way too expensive!

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

He loved getting a surprise in the post addressed to him.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I'm not going to - sorry.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Too much paper. I think he kind of viewed it as the leaflets that come with kids comics/magazines and wasn't interested in reading them.

FEEDBACK

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

My son was super excited by having 'grown up post' through the letter box (he had Chicken pox at the time so it cheered him up immensely).

He opened the letter but needed help reading it and didn't quite understand what it was all about.

When the box arrived he was even more excited, and wanted to open everything all at once.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

His favourite bits were the experiments and the gold collectable figurine he received.
He does play with the figurines, but the experiments are all complete so he can't keep playing with those. He looks at the cards every now and then.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

No I didn't download the app.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I think its a little bit expensive - apart from a few collectors cards, three balloons and three moshlings, the rest is just card / paper and postage isn't that much. I would buy them if they were £5 or £6 a box.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

Loved it. Lots of lovely printed colours and images - the box arrived safely in the post so none of the graphics were damaged and it did add to the excitement.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I will consider it - just depends if he wants to - he hasn't asked yet.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

You need to consider the age and ability of the children - my son has just turned 6 and he needed help with the experiments and with reading the letter. It wasn't immediately obvious what he had to do or what he could do, but then he did get stuck in with decorating the egg, and was able to understand the experiments once I read it through with him. He was able to do the spot the difference and word searches, and he likes the jokes. Maybe some special stickers might be a good inclusion and some moshling gummy sweets? With those extra items included, it would make it more worthwhile buying the boxes at their current price. And do they actually receive a replica of the stolen egg with the baby moshling? That would be a great conclusion to the mystery boxes.

abbiewebb12 · 26/06/2017 12:04

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
MY DAUGHTER WAS SO EXCITED BY THE LETTER, SHE CHECKED THE POST EVERY NIGHT TO SEE IF THE BOX HAD ARRIVED

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
SHE LOVED THE SCRATCH CARDS THE BEST - Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? WE DOWNLOADED THE GAME ON THE IPAD AND MOBILE, THE IPAD CRASHED A FEW TIMES BUT SHE ENJOYED PLAYING ON THE APP FOR A WHILE
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE, DEFINITELY WOULDN'T PAY THAT PRICE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WERE UNDER £5 AND COULD BE SENT TO FRIENDS FOR A BIRTHDAY GIFT
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? IT WAS NICE BUT NOT THAT MUCH DIFFERENCE TO THE FREE BOXES WITH CRAFTS YOU CAN GET ON TRIAL THROUGH THE POST. THERE WAS ALOT OF THINGS IN THE BOX BUT SHE LOST INTEREST AFTER A WHILE
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? NOT LIKELY - ESPECIALLY AT THE HIGH PRICE
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? LOWER PRICE, MAYBE A FEW LESS ITEMS AS MY DAUGHTER DIDN'T KNOW WHERE TO START AND ALTHOUGH SHE WAS SO EXCITED SHE THOUGHT THE GREEN AND YELLOW BAGS MIGHT CONTAIN MYSTERY TOYS RATHER THAN CRAFTS. SHE WASN'T TOO INTERESTED IN MAKING THE CRAFTS/EXPERIEMENTS SHE WAS TOO BUSY WITH THE CARDS. THANK YOU FOR LETTING US REVIEW THIS

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My son was so excited when he got his letter and then parcel, he loved opening and reading the instructions.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The clear toy
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We downloaded the Game, but once they had it they weren't Elbert impressed
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Very expensive for what it is, it's really not worth that price
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Waiting for the letter and the box was the best but I would say, the rest was fairly disappointing
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
We will Definitely not be getting again
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
The box needs way more in
skippink · 26/06/2017 12:42

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My son loved that he had his own personal letter and it built up the anticipation for the box arrived. When the box arrived he was very excited and wanted to open it straight away.

Which was there favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The favourite was the activities ad my son likes being creative

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes we did,my son enjoyed playing on the app.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
For what you get in the box I personally think the price is too much, maybe as a one off gift but not something I would continue to buy. I think around £6-£7 is more reasonable.

What did your dc think of the overall mystery box experience and personalisation?
My son loved the initial letter, and enjoyed the box but think there needs to be more things to do.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription,so that your dc can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I may sign up so he can get the next two boxes but probably won't long term.

How do you think the experience could be improved?
The price is something that would put me off in the future, and there could be a few more things to do such as activities.

Thank you for letting us test the box!

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

DS was so excited to receive his letter in the post and for it to be addressed to just him, he was over the moon with, it made him feel very special !! My little boy was literally checking if the postman had been every day Smile but as promised it arrived a week later and he was ecstatic !! He rushed to the table to open up the special box and was absolutely in awe as he emptied out all the special coloured paper gift bags, his letter and the other cards that were in the box. He couldn't wait to get started, he was that desperate to do it all he didn't even want breakfast and that's a huge deal for my son !! Grin

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

He is in love with the mini moshi collectable, he plays with it all the time and it has literally gone everywhere with him since he received it !!

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

We did and i literally lost my phone for an hour or so while he played on it as he loved it !! He really enjoyed matching and scanning the cards up and now wants mummy to buy him his own phone so he can play all the time he says !! Wink

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

We have tried the different brands of boxes you can receive in the post (arts and crafts boxes) as all my boys enjoy crafts and making and i must say that you get a lot more in those boxes for the price than he got in the moshi mystery box. I do think £17.99 is a little high especially if like me you have more than on child and i'm not sure you will find many mums who would be able to afford that much a month considering you don't get as much in the box as other brands offer for less money.

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

Making my DS feel so special and important was such a lovely touch. He really felt like he had been picked out to help and to me that was the best bit for me as he was so happy.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Unfortunately at £17.99 for two boxes its not very likely as i just cant afford that much, especially having three boys, who would all want one it would work out so expensive for me monthly.

How do you think the experience could be improved?

DS would have liked the little mosh monster to have been in a egg or some kind of surprise bag, i think the surprise and suspense is the best bit Wink

GayParee · 26/06/2017 13:28

DS8 tested this.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

He was really excited when he got his letter and was stalking the postie daily until the box came along. He loved that is was addressed to him.

-Which was his favourite item from the box and is he still playing with it?

He loves the experiments but we haven't had a chance for him to do them yet. He also loves the moshies, especially Hansel.

-Did you download the app? Are they still playing it?

Yes we did and he liked scanning the qr codes, still playing the game as it's DD10 who didn't even get a box! 'Its a very good game' says DS8

-These will be priced at £9-99 for one box . . .

I think that is quite expensive, the Moshis are much cheaper to buy, and with two children who would want a monthly box I am not sure I could bring myself to pay that much. I think around the £7 would be much more palatable.

-What did your child think of the overall personalisation . .

He loved getting things addressed to him, as the youngest I think he feels he gets hand me downs a lot so to get something new, addressed to him was really fun. Definitely a selling point.

  • How likely to upgrade to a paid subscription?

I really don't know, I've just signed to for a weekly magazine for him so for parity Is have to look into what I could sign up for for the others, with three kids that would be expensive

-How could the experience be improved?

By reducing the price a bit, offering something for siblings and emailing parents/guardians a few days in attendance giving them a heads up re the craft activities,

anne262 · 26/06/2017 13:36

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
ripped the box open and scattered all the bits everywhere!

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
the little moshlings and the frozen balloon experiment....moshlings were sadly lost be the following day

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
played for a short while initially but not been on it since

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
way too pricey for what is included , the craft stuff can be bought for pennies!

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
waiting for the arrival of the box was the most exciting part...he was not overly excited with the contents to be honest

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
no will not be subscribing , too expensive

How do you think the experience could be improved?
make the boxes cheaper, better instructions for the experiments and a reason for the experiments - they didn't seem relevant at all

lalahotpants · 26/06/2017 14:09

My 8 year old lost interest half way through the letter and it was kinda rambly, he doon perked up when he realised a box would follow! Unfortunately it didn't turn up for ages but excitement peaked when postie finally arrived with it.
Unfortunately the contents was more like a cheap lucky bag and sed contents are now strewn about his bedroom.
Lost interest almost instantly and got bored using the app!
We will not be receiving any other boxes as the price is too much for what you get.

Holly221288 · 26/06/2017 14:11

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My DS was checking the post everyday once I told him he would be getting a letter. Once the letter arrived his excitement exceeded my expectations even taking it into school for show and tell. He was excited when the box came but not so much when he opened it.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
The cards and toy
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? Yes, he liked it.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? A little steep given what was in the box. I think around the £7 mark would be better.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? The personalisation was definitely the best bit. He really enjoyed the balloon experiment but was less impressed by the other stuff. The toy was a hit though.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Maybe or we might look for a better priced alternative.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? An extra one or two activities in the box. Something that directly relates to quest. I wasn't sure the activities flowed or was clear how was related to an end goal
Missbobbins · 26/06/2017 14:23
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Upon receipt of the letter, both kids (Boy – aged 8 and Girl - aged 5) were so excited – they don’t receive much post addressed to them so it captured their attention immediately. They both read the letter over and over again and started discussing what it might be… Their usual squabbling was replaced by joint speculation! HURRAH! When the boxes arrived – thankfully they both arrived on the same day – my DD was hopping about like a loon and ripped open the box and the bag without really paying attention to the accompanying instructions. My DS on the other hand relished opening the box and each bag and kept everything in order.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
DD – she loved all of it! She is very craft orientated and wanted to do everything straight away – we had frozen the eggs and painted the egg as fast as we could. She really loved the little figures – and she still carries them in her ‘special things’ bag that goes everywhere with her. DS – he was more methodical – and actually allowed his little sister to help him – once again – Moshi Monsters made my little monsters friends! Once again – Hurrah!
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes we did – but I think the novelty wore off quite quickly for both of them and they haven’t been back onto it.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
That’s too expensive as I would have to buy 2! Maybe every now and again but for a regular monthly price it is far too much. Maybe around £5 - £6 per box?
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
My daughter was beside herself to get a box addressed to her, and she thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing. My son on the other hand thought it was a little young for him. Although he did do the activities, it was more to do with having something to do rather than that particular thing… Also the character that he got was a giant cupcake which my daughter thought should have been in her box not his!
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely – however my daughter has asked for it for her birthday so might consider that..
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
It was easy for my DS to understand what he had to do but my daughter struggled a bit and I had to help her quite a bit – which is fine but it could have been a little easier to understand for the younger ones. Maybe target the characters to boys? My daughter doesn’t care but my son was a little disappointed with the giant pink cupcake…

Moshi Mystery Box Review

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

She was very excited, but it was quite a long time between the letter and the box.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

She loved the little figurines, and still plays with them

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes, have downloaded the game, and she liked it.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I think it's too much for what it is, and won't be buying any boxes.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

She was very excited to get post, and personalisation was ok too.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

We won't be buying any boxes as i think it's too much money for what it is.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

I hoped it would be more educational. My daughter wasn't very interested in the two crafty bags either, i thought they looked a bit cheap and homemade- in a bad way. The little figurines interested her the most, and the game we downloaded. The figurines are very similar to other things she has, shopkis, nom noms and stuff like that. My opinion is that it is too much like things that are already on the market. The stories were also not very interesting, and the vocabulary was BAD. Sorry! Thanks for letting us try it.

welshmumof3boys · 26/06/2017 14:40
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My dd (5) and ds (7) were very excited when they received their letters and boxes. They wanted to get started straight away with looking for the eggs.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
They loved everything in the box. It was nice watching them working together to complete each activity.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes we downloaded the mobile game. They found it very easy to use and have played on it daily completing the games and searching for eggs.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think the price is reasonable especially for the bundle of two boxes.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Both dc thoroughly loved the fact the boxes where personalised. They took ownership over them and the activities included.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I certainly think it's something I will look at as both dc have enjoyed the first box.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Maybe make the boxes geared more for the different ages. My dd who's 5 did require some help with a couple of the activities but really wanted to do them herself
shrunkenhead · 26/06/2017 16:55

Not received letter or box despite receiving an email asking me to leave feedback.....I would if I could...

mummyhereandthere · 26/06/2017 17:02

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? got summer excited - he loved that it was personal and especially for him. He loved opening it and reading what it had to say.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?The moshi figures and the trading cards.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?Yes, my son is 5 so it the simpler tasks such as the designing and making ice cream was a hit. I would say it is more swayed for the older audience.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? Too much money. Even though it comes with everything, to be honest much prefer to buy a reduced Lego set in Sainsbury's. I would consider it if my son was proper into it, but as he does not no a lot about the actually product it is not something I would consider.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? He loved the idea of the box, especially the map. He loved the science task wit the frozen eggs, really impressed him. It was really fun for both us to do as it would be something that I would never think of doing.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? No, I wouldn't upgrade or buy another due to the cost.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? I think leaving the game out and focusing on the activities would be more suited for my five year old.

But thank you for letting me and my son try the mystery box, it was a good experience and had fun spending time together doing it.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

They had a good look, they felt really excited by the letter and couldn't wait to get the box. When the box arrived, they grabbed it and rummaged through immediately.
- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
DD1 (8) says the moshlings, DD2 (5) says everything. They were both very keen to do the frozen egg and I can see them wanting to repeat that. They're still looking at the other box bits.
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes, we downloaded it. They loved the game, they both said it was 'amazing' and were excited about opening the new eggs. However, at one point the game reset itself so that all progress was lost, which was obviously upsetting.
- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
A little pricey to be honest, I could see myself getting a one-off at that price but not a set of 3- especially when you have more than one child wanting them.
- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
'Absolutely amazing.' They really liked having the letters/boxes addressed directly to them and really enjoyed trying out the activities.
- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
We'll, the children really want to get the next ones but they are more expensive than I would like, so I haven't decided yet. Maybe.
- How do you think the experience could be improved?
Personally, I would have liked to see more pencil and paper activities, like quizzes, wordsearches, colouring- stuff to keep the children busy without having to be supervised. And make sure the mobile app is fixed so that it doesn't reset.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My son was very excited to receive the letter and box and wanted to read and do EVERYTHING straight away.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
His favourite was the egg. He broke though and is no longer playing with it.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? No.we did not as some of the activities were too old for him.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think it is a little overpriced for the kind of activities they have to do.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
My son loved the experiment with the balloon and salt. But the word search was far too old for him.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I am not going to.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved
I think that the target audience should be older than 5. And that there should be more experiments to do than the 1 for the price of the box. However, my son lived that the letters were personalised.

DS was very excited by the box, and the letter although it would have been better had it arrived a bit sooner.

He has been involved with all the activities and they have really captured his imagination. I think they are well planned and presented.

He really likes the little figures and has been carrying them round with him for days!

We haven't downloaded the app because DS has been happy with the activities but will do so at some point.

We won't subscribe because I think it's too much money. If the boxes were between £5-£7 each I would consider it for a treat because they are well thought out and good quality.

I think the overall experience could be improved by linking the activities more closely and by providing a set of instructions. I.e paint the egg and then make a nest for the moshlings to hatch in.

Overall, they have been fun and a good way to spend time with DS. Thank you :)

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

My son was really excited when he received the letter and kept asking when the box was going to arrive!

When the box did arrive he spent quite a while looking through the items before downloading the App.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

My son liked the cards the best and liked the interaction of them with the App. Once he had used them once though he has not picked them up again.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Initially my son was really excited and spent a little while playing on it, however, since the initial excitement he has not played with it again.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I think they are very overpriced for what you receive.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

I think my son was really excited by the idea of the box, however, perhaps a little bit disappointed with the contents. It didn't really keep him entertained for that long.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Not at all I am afraid.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

I do think it needs to be a lot cheaper for parents to really be able to consider purchasing.

My son was very excited when I gave him the box, could not wait to open it. He was delighted when he saw the goodies.

His favourite was the cupcake. Unfortunately all the excitement lasted for a day and no he's no longer playing with it.

We downloaded the app but it took a few tries before we could log in. Once we did, my son got bored with it quickly.

They are asking way too much for what it is.

The best bit was getting a personalised mail and finding out the contents however he lost interest very quickly.

Not at all likely I'm afraid.

They need to improve the contents and pricing.

Wow my daughter loved receiving the letter in anticipation for parcel coming and lived up to expectations. You got a lot included and kept her occupied especially in the sun - she loved finding out all about it.

I do however think its quite expensive and dont think I would be able to afford it :(

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My DS read the letter and then proceeded to open up all the packs to see what was inside!

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
His favourite activity was the frozen egg one, especially the effect of adding salt to the frozen mass. Not playing with it anymore though we could recreate this activity with other items.

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
Yes, he loved it. The scanning of cards, the games and activities were engaging.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
It'd be better to have a lower price, more in line with the usual Weekend Boxes. Around £5-6 each would be fair especially as there were less activities than the W/B.

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He enjoyed the personalised letters and box as with any post he gets directly. The cards to be used with the mobile app were probably his most favourite thing.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely due to the high price.

How do you think the experience could be improved?
Reduce the cost and add colour coded activity cards with the activity packs.
