Mind Candy asked us to recruit MNers with at least one DC aged 5-8 to test their new subscription service, containing fun Moshi-themed activities and games. The boxes work in conjunction with the Moshi Egg Hunt Mobile Game, which can be downloaded for free on iOS and Android. Selected testers were sent a letter from Moshlingologist Buster Bumblechops, enlisting their DCs to help in a quest to retrieve a special stolen egg. This was then followed up by the first in a series of Mystery Boxes, containing crafts and activities.

Here’s what Mind Candy have said about the product: ‘The experience begins when your DC receives an exciting personalised letter in the post, in which Buster Bumblechops explains that a very special Moshling egg has been stolen and that he’ll soon be sending a Moshi Mystery Box, jam-packed with clues, activities and missions. The first box contains fun art and craft activities, Moshi collectables, a comic strip, jokes and much more. And if you decide to sign up, there will be two more Moshi Mystery Boxes to follow.

A simple story runs across all three boxes, taking your child on a quest across Monstro City. Each box is also themed - box one is the Frostipop Glacier, two is Potion Ocean and three is all about the Gombala Gombala Jungle! The first box will also contain a pack of trading cards that can be scanned to unlock exclusive characters in the 100% free Moshi Monsters Egg Hunt Mobile Game!’

Testers - if you’ve been sent your mystery box, please leave your feedback on the thread below to be entered into a prize draw for a £300 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Thanks for taking part and good luck with the prize draw.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
She was very excited by the letter and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her box. She was asking almost every day if it had arrived yet! When it did arrive she was thrilled. She opened it up quickly and had a look at what was in the box but didn't immediately get stuck in with the crafts.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? She liked the little figures but hasn't touched them much after the first day.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We haven't had a chance to download the game yet.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
The price seems very high for what you get. I would not be adverse to spending £9.99, I'd just expect more than 2 balloons, 2 tiny figures, powder paint and some papers to cut out.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
SHe was thrilled with the personalised aspect. I think it made it feel very special for her.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Sorry, not at that price for what you get.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
I think the instructions on the craft activity could be a bit clearer. The paint instruction weren't very clear and in the end we just painted each sheet as we wanted. I get that you are limited in the size of items you include because you want it to fit through the letterbox but there could be more interesting items included. 3d cut outs that you need to assemble etc to create a structure for the little character to live in for example.
CheeseandGherkins · 24/06/2017 22:26

@Geneticsbunny

I don't think we get any more boxes without paying the sub. I think it's a set of three and we only get the first one.

merliquin · 24/06/2017 23:26

Thank you for this fun testing opportunity!

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
I wasn't home when DD 5 received either item. She was very excited to get a letter and loved the mystery of the egg. She also liked the character of Buster and was intrigued as to who he was and how he knew to write to her. She asked almost every day about the box until it finally arrived!
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? DD has both letters blu-tacked to her wall - she can read a bit on her own which makes it particularly fun for her. She loves the moshlings and plays with them most days. The ice egg activity was so much fun - her little brother enjoyed helping her melt the eggs in the garden to hatch her moshlings. She plays lots of imaginative egg games since receiving the box. All of the funny words made her laugh.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
She was eager to download the game but we haven't done so yet as my phone is being repaired.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Expensive!
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Absolutely loved it and would be delighted to receive each month.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Unlikely - although I liked the concept and activities, I feel the price has been seriously misjudged.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Less reliance on the app and more of a standalone experience with the option to extend this experience through the app. We were excited about tracking down the egg but this aspect didn't really live up to expectations.
HeadDreamer · 25/06/2017 06:57
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
DC1 was very excited after she received the letter. She really liked how it was addressed to her. And the promise of an egg hunt. She is in year 1 and can't read the letter yet so we read it to her. She asked about the promised box everyday in the next week.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Nothing. DC1 was only interested in the two craft activities. We made the frozen egg and the egg drawing the first day. DC2 who is 2yo also wanted her own so I made another egg with a coloured and a plain piece of paper using the same template.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
DC1 wasn't interested. I mentioned it but she didn't want to play. She wasn't interested in anything else in the box either.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Very expensive given DC1 was only interested in the craft. Lasted an hour!
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
She liked it. And was excited about the letter and the box.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
We won't get more boxes.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
I think the experience is great. But it doesn't match what DC1 likes. I was also confused what the egg hunt is about? We didn't understand it. I thought there will be some clues in the box? But both DC1 and I were left confused. So maybe that's why she weren't enthused by it.
BigGrannyPants · 25/06/2017 08:35

- What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
My DS was really excited, we read the letter first, he absolutely loved that, laughed all the way through it, then he ripped in to the box Grin

- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
He really loved the little clear dogs and the moshi monster, he played with it loads to begin with but less now, he's had it 10 days, he has gone back to it though which tells me it's a hit.

- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
We did download the game but DS lost interest really quickly. My 1 year old DD was more interested in the game.

- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think that's too expensive, I wouldn't buy them at that price, maybe if it were £9.99 for two.

- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He loved getting the letter and the personalised box but I don't think the contents was enough to keep him amused for any length of time.

- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Very unlikely, my DC is 6 and I think he is already getting to the stage of being too old for it.

- How do you think the experience could be improved? if there had been an actual egg to hatch the moshling out of, if it had involved some sort of experiment and if there had been more than 2 little pots of paint.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
I saved the letter for when the activities box came and we sat down at the table together it was a complete suprise for dc. Immedietley we downloaded the Moshi app and uploaded the cards into the scanner.
We had fun exploring the map carefully with a maginifying glass for a closer look.
Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Dc Loved the cards and dc Named the moshi figure. Dc has carried around the cards and figure all over the house they even sleep under the pillow on a nighttime! We loved the balloon craft was fun trying to blow balloon up several times we got the hang when you had to stretch it first.

Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

It was the first thing we downloaded,we had fun scavenging coins to scratch off the codes and line them up to the camera to scan in.Our Favourite is the mermaid Moshi. If we stay away to long it calls us back to play its endearing really.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
Its rather highly priced for what is is, I would pay if there was a few more figures in would be quite fun to collect weekly figures and tock it off as we go.

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

The letter and box were well designed and catchy for dc eye I loved the indiana Jones style Dc and I had become the explorers ready to do challanges to earn codes.

_How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?*

As above if there were a few more figures in as its more paper and leaflets than anything, dont get me wrong dc loved it and I enjoyed time we spent on crafts and challenges but it is quite expensive.

How do you think the experience could be improved?

Dc says maybe a nice storage box with different things label for them to go in each place and maybe a preview of whats in store for the next boxes.

Flanderspigeonmurderer · 25/06/2017 09:15
  1. He was very happy to receive a letter addressed to him, but was a bit put out at having to wait for the box to then arrive. When it did arrive we made the eggs with the balloons then he painted his egg.
  1. His favourite items were the two little moshlings, he's still playing with them.
  1. I did download the game but he became quite bored with it early on.
  1. I think those prices are expensive and not worth paying for what you get in the box.
  1. He liked getting letters and parcels addressed to him and he liked some of the activities in the box. The mobile game wasn't for him.
  1. I wouldn't pay for the subscription as I don't think my son would be interested.
  1. I don't think the mobile game made it very clear what you had to do or how it was connected to the initial letter in the box. I thought there was some kind of treasure hunt but I couldn't figure it out. My son liked the actual activities but not the game so perhaps a more reasonably priced box with more activities would suit him.
serendipity1980 · 25/06/2017 10:07

Hi, Firstly Mind Candy andumsnet, thank you for selecting my DD to be a tester, she enjoyed the experience.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? She is 7 but not a confident reader yet and found the letter a bit challenging to read. She was really excited about the thought of the box arriving and kept checking outside the front door on a near daily basis. It did take a while. She was very keen to open the box straight away.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? She did some of the colouring while we were away at family, she loved the little Moshi toys which we played a role play type game with a Farm set. However, the box is currently just sitting on her vedroom floor, a week after she received it and she hasn't played with it since the weekend.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? Because we received it & went straight to visit family we didn't download the game. She did the scratch cards but hasn't asked us about downloading it. She doesn't seem excited about it.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? Far too much money, the activities were very basic and the moshi balloon egg activity just seemed pointless - DD thought so too. Given that it's just sitting on her floor, there's no way it's worth £10. Maybe £5? But I still wouldn't buy it. It's also a bit chaotic for children- lots of little packages and paper but not sure of the overall theme.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? She didn't get excited about the personalisation but did get excited about the prospect of it arriving. However, it didn't keep her attention for long.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Definitely not- far too expensive and no longevity and contents very basic.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved. Better activities that are more creative, cheaper price and better organisation of the box overall with a guide.
Thanks again for choosing us, we did really enjoy the experience.
teetee9 · 25/06/2017 11:06

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

My DD couldnt wait to open them. I let her open the letter and look at the box.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The moshling characters. Yes my DD's are all role playing with them.

  • Did you download the mobile game?

Not yet but will do

How did they find it?

Will reply once I have downloaded.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Seems a little steep to be honest.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

My DD loved that the box and letters were addressed to her and as shes a n arty girl she loved the crafts in the box and the whole experience.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Not very likely as I feel the price is steep especially as the box is only suitable for one child and I would need 3.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Put more activities in especially if the pricing stays the same so that people with more than one child can share the activities out amongst their kids.

Nottheshrinkingcapgrandpa · 25/06/2017 11:54

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

DC was so excited to get the box, they almost ripped it open in excitement!

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

They liked the cards.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

I thought there was lots of room for improvement in the app.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Too expensive for what it is.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

They loved the personalisation, and the box was really colourful and appealing.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I'm unlikely to do so. If they were priced up to £6 I may have done.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

The presentation of the box was excellent, but at £10 a box, I would want more substance to the contents for that price.

MoltenChocolateBabycake · 25/06/2017 14:05
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

She was very excited when she read the letter, she expected the box exactly a week after the letter so had given up on waiting for it. The box arrived 10 days after the letter and she shrieked when she checked the mail.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The frozen balloon activity. The box arrived when the weather was hot so the ice egg was really enjoyed. We have bought more ballons and filled them with moshis in ice.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

She loves the game and asks to play the mini games frequently. Some of the cards wouldn't scan which was frustrating.

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Too much unfortunately.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

She loved that her name was used throughout the letters and the build up between the first letter and box made it more exciting.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

The next boxes do look good but unfortunately cost too much. For the same money you could buy a lot more.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

Aside from the cost, the only niggle we had was that the instructions on the ice activity were not very clear and were separate from the bag the activity was contained in. The bag contained salt but it wasn't mentioned on the main instructions so dd mixed it into the water then was disappointed when she found the bubble saying to sprinkle it on because she had used it already so couldn't listen to it.

Thank you for choosing us, I could never have justified paying for it but it was magical for her.

Raahh · 25/06/2017 14:51

- What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? - DD2 was very excited by the letter- she rarely gets post addressed to her that isn't doctor/dentist appointmentsGrin- so that went down well. The letter was a bit 'wordy' for her (she's 6) but she was excited about the prospect of getting the box. The box didn't come for over a week later- fortunately, she seemed to forget, so I didn't get constantly asked about it, and it was a nice surprise when it did come.
- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? - She liked the small moshlings- we still have a lot from my older 2 (who are now nearly 11 and 14) so they joined them- her favourite is a unicorn. She also liked the paints. She likes craft things in general, but the small toys will probably end up getting lost.
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? we did download the game, she found it easy to use, has used the old version, was interested in hatching eggs for the first couple of days but lost interest after a while. She will probably go back to it, next time we are out and she is playing on my phone.
- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? Over priced for what they are.
- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? loved the personalisation, and the cards, found some of the box a bit over complicated really, she got a bit bored with it quite easily.
- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Very unlikey
- How do you think the experience could be improved? Simplify, they experience, link things more clearly, and make the boxes cheaper if that is how you finish the challenge. Otherwise, it was a nice thing to have, but wouldn't be worth the money, it was really little more than the contents of a magazine with a toy- but for a lot more money.

But dd2 would like to thank you for the unicorn in particular (because her sister wants itGrin)

scepticalexpat · 25/06/2017 16:41
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Ripped it open, had me read out the letter, and looked at everything in the box. She was really excited about the letter and highly anticipated the arrival of the box.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
Liked the little moshi creatures but no, not still playing with it.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
No.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think that's way too high. I think £4-5 for one box would be more appropriate.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
She loved the overall experience. However the account of what the mystery was and what the box had to do with it was quite confusing and neither of us could really figure out a coherent box.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I'm not. She isn't all that bothered and I prefer e.g. Toucan Box.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Make the story a bit more overall coherent - integrate the creatures and the activities into it better. I guess also my 5-year-old was a bit too young for the jokes and word searches, so an older child would have got more out of that.
Lucilulondon · 25/06/2017 19:16

The letter when it arrived seemed to confuse my son - although to be fair i couldnt really explain what it was about, so wasn't much help. The box he tore open and threw the stuff around then tried to figure out what to do (unsuccessfully) and inwas desperately picking things up trying to figure out what to do
The ice balloons have been a big hit and theres been a lot of freezing and ice games as a result. He doesn't particularly follow the instructions but found freezing the men and getting them out great fun.
We havent downloaded the games yet as im a bit unsure how they fit inI think the price isna little expensive as whilst its fun, its not clealrly expensive materials
Because hes 5 i dont think he got it or the personalisation
Unlikely to upgrade
I think the toys need to be better quality and providing some sort of background note tomexplain it to the parents would be useful. Maybe its just me but indidnt understand what it was meant to be so fiund it hard to explain to my son

Nanodust · 25/06/2017 19:27

Just to add another message, update. My DCs absolutely love the app. Every morning they are waking up and wanting to 'hatch the egg'. Really good stuff.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 25/06/2017 19:33

Hi

_What did your DC do first?

He was v pleased to get the letter disappointing the box took so long and the box was a big disappointed more a cardboard envelope than a box!

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? he liked the cards but to be honest lost interest within minutes

_Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? Yes although wasn't as good as the others he plays although will flicjk to it on occasion

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? way to expensive for what it is maybe if it was a proper box of goodies but no way its not much more than a mega £5 comic freebie inside the box!

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? He enjoyed getting the letter but from there forward it was a big let down.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Good idea but needs a rethink def won't subscribe

How do you think the experience could be improved? More for the money or reduce the price

Sparkles23 · 25/06/2017 19:39

Here are the questions Mind Candy would like you to answer:

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box? My son was v excited by the letter, he was so pleased! I wasn't home when the box arrived but I got home to find all the contents scattered across the table and he was playing with it.
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it? The figures were his favourite and yes he has added them to his collection.
- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it? Not had a chance to yet but are going to do so.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price? It's quite expensive and probably not something I would subscribe to at that price.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation? Fantastic he loved it!
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series? Not v likely
  • How do you think the experience could be improved? The box it came in was a little flume by, if it was stronger and 'keepable' it would be better (I would prob pay the price then as would be more worth it).

I still haven't received my box - I have emailed several times but no response!

user1495005910 · 25/06/2017 21:35
  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their
box?

My DD was extremely excited to receive her letter addressed to herself and waited patiently for her box. She loved everything in the box especially the little moshi monster toy.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing
with it?

My DD loves the small see through figure that she received and she still plays with it now. Adding the toys into the box is a really nice touch.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

We haven't yet, this is only because we do not have enough space on the iPad!

  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Really expensive and I was super disappointed as the concept is brilliant as it makes you want the next box! My daughter really wanted to purchase the next box. I think if the price was maybe £7 it would be slightly better.

  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

We loved it and have already recommended it to our friends, however the price is off putting.

  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I have told my daughter that if she saves up her birthday money or helps and gets pocket money we may contemplate it, however £10.00 is a lot of money to her and I doubt that we will continue with the subscription unfortunately.

  • How do you think the experience could be improved?

I think the whole experience was amazing, the price needs to be improved and then I think it will definitely be a hit!

EmLH · 25/06/2017 21:44

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

DD was very happy to receive a letter addressed to her. I hadn't told her it was coming and it was a lovely surprise. She was so poking forward to the box and asked after it numerous times every day. When it finally arrived she had almost given up hope and wasn't expecting it as it was the weekend so screamed excitedly and raced to open it.

Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The ice balloons. No, for obvious reasons.

  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Not yet, we've been very busy this week but still plan to and will report back again.

These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

Way too high. I would pay a fiver and no more.

What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

She loved it as it was a real novelty. Having to wait for it was actually a good thing as it gave her something to look forward to.

How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

I won't. It's a good idea but too expensive.

How do you think the experience could be improved?

Cheaper price. Maybe some sort of interactivity, i.e. being able to choose which box you get next. Put a bit more in the box if the price is to stay the same.

EmLH · 25/06/2017 21:45

BankWadger · 25/06/2017 21:54

-What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?

She was very excited when her letter arrived and promptly wanted to take into school for show and tell (except it was sports day so she couldn't). It was then a long week of talking about when the box was going to arrive.

- Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?

The map. We have spent the weekend following the map around the house looking for the missing egg. I think she is finally realising it's not in our house Confused

- Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?

Yes I did. DD loves it and I am being nagged every day for her to open the egg.

- These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?

I was impressed with the initial letter, it's really good quality. Unfortunately I wasn't quite so impressed by the box itself. There is a good selection of activities inside although they really only lasted 2 days. The quality of the materials isn't amazing. The paint powder didn't dissolve well and once it dried on the paper it brushed straight off as it recrystallised. I feel £10 is a little steep for the amount of entertainment derived and quality of the goods inside.

- What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?

DD gives it one thumbs up and one thumbs on the horizontal, but can't/won't articulate what she likes most.

- How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?

Part of me wants to pay for the remaining two boxes as DD is soset of finding the egg, but as it's an egg in the computer game I feel she will be quite dissappointed. Also I can't really justify the cost for the amount of entertainment she will actually get from it.

- How do you think the experience could be improved?

Either beef up the contents of the boxes a little more or reduce the cost. Also better quality supplies. I realise that this is a big tie in to the computer game, but it would be good if the game wasn't the main emphasis of the box.

  • What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
Son (age 5) was very exited when I read the letter out to him. He loved the fact that the envelope was stuck down with a wax-seal type sticker. He was even more excited when the box arrived. He took it straight upstairs and literally ripped it open before I managed to get to him - the bags were torn open with their contents all over the floor! It wasn't difficult to work out what went with which kit as the cards were very helpful. We thought we'd lost some of the moshling figures though as the instructions said to put a few figures in each balloon, but we only had three figures (and three balloons).
  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
He loves the moshling figures and now would like more to go with them. He's still playing with them/carrying them around everywhere. He also loved the cards - we had to make the frozen eggs straightaway. He said he felt like a proper scientist when trying to get the moshlings out of their eggs the next day. The pipette was also a huge hit! I bought him a tuff box (and some moshling stickers to decorate) to keep all the bits together. It is now one of his Special Things.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
My 9yo downloaded the game. He loves it. 5yo hasn't shown any interest.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I think that is really quite expensive for what you get, even though he loved it. Having said that, now we've had the first one I'd like to get him the other two.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
He loved it. He loved having things to open within the box, so the surprise wasn't over as soon as he got in the box. The personalisation made him feel special.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
I'm very likely, despite the price. I can't leave things unfinished, and we've still got two bits of the code to find!
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
The box was pretty flimsy and trashed in its journey to us. My son didn't realise that there was a pull tab to help open it so he just tore it open. Maybe make it more easy/obvious for the little ones to realise what to do? Not an improvement but a request to keep them the same: The bags were lovely - good quality and being stuck down with a sticker gave them that personal touch too. Please don't drop that for a cheaper/easier option. For £9.99 I think maybe you could put an extra couple of figures in.

What did your DC do first when they received their letter and their box?
I hadn't told my son about the letter or box coming so he was really chuffed when it arrived. We had to get everything out of the box and go through it and play with what he could.

  • Which was their favourite item from the box and are they still playing with it?
He played with the figure for a while and that was the most he played with any part of it.
  • Did you download the mobile game? How did they find it?
The app is definitely better than the box. He had more fun using that then anything in the box.
  • These will be priced at £9.99 per box, or a bundle of two boxes at £17.99. What are your thoughts on the price?
I don't think the price is worth it in all honesty. There is not really a lot of any substance in the box and I personally would not purchase it at that price.
  • What did your DC think of the overall Mystery Box experience and personalisation?
Got bored quickly, didn't really seem that bothered by it after a few days.
  • How likely are you to upgrade to a paid subscription, so that your DC can continue with the next two boxes in the series?
Would not consider it at this point and seeing what is in the box.
  • How do you think the experience could be improved?
Better quality parts within the box would be my way of improving.
