Birds Eye have teamed up with Mumsnet, to find 250 testers for their 20-minute meals. Selected testers were given a Birds Eye pack with a £5 Birds Eye voucher and a £10 supermarket voucher, so that they could cook and taste the 20-minute meals for themselves.

Here’s what Birds Eye have said: ‘Tea time can be a stressful part of the day and coming up with nutritious and tasty meals the kids will enjoy is not easy.

That’s why Birds Eye has teamed up with Toby and Roo, Honest Mum, Not Another Mummy Blog and London Dad to create a series of delicious and wholesome meals for the family to enjoy. And guess what, they genuinely only take 20-minutes to prep, cook and serve!

Birds Eye frozen chicken is always made with 100% chicken breast, barn-reared chickens, and no artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.’

'Enjoyed Birds Eye Chicken? Why not leave us a product review here.'

If you took part in this test please comment on the thread, with your answers to these questions:

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
  2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
  3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
  4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
  5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

All those who tested and post their feedback on here and the survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes. We all loved it! It was well flavoured and very tender.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

The price is ok for a ready meal but will still seek for offers.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Definitely. I nevertheless bought them before because I wasn't sure what's in it. After reading that it's 100% chicken breast and it's actually as nutritious as made from scratch I will always have it in my freezer as a planned meal or as a back up.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes it doesn't make a difference.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes. Already have some Loren coming in my next food order!

OnMyShoulders · 30/05/2017 12:58
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

We really enjoyed the chicken dippers. We thought the chicken chargrills were a bit dry and the crispy chicken was a bit greasy.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

I think it's reasonable value.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes. With 5 DC, there's always a time and a place for 'convenience food' and these assurances make me feel much happier about serving frozen chicken products.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

It's not something I generally consider to be honest.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

No doubt!

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes and no.. I tried the chicken chargrills, and I have to admit they were nice. However my daughter who would normally eat anything didn't like them and said they tasted burnt ( it was the chargrill flavour), however she loves the chicken dippers.

1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, the whole family (and friends) enjoyed it.

2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, especially as it is frozen so is less likely to go past its Use By date, therefore less wastage. I'll be looking out for them "on offer" though.

3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Absolutely. "Convenient" foods quite often feel like they're of poorer quality and/or less healthy, so it's wonderful to have something good for you AND easy!

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Free range would be better, but knowing they are never caged is indeed reassuring.

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes I would, and to the children's friends who come for playdates too.

Leahs1988 · 30/05/2017 22:12

Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
All the family enjoyed the birds eye chicken crispy burgers that we made. It's nice to have something different as we would normally have beef burgers.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? Yes I think it is good value especially the wide range of chicken and this has opened my eyes to all the different ways the chicken can be used.
  2. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? Yes I always think about what is in the chicken and that has stopped me buying chicken dippers in the past because I wasn't aware that they are 100% chicken breast.
  3. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? The welfare of our food is of great importance so this is very reassuring
  4. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? Definitely would especially having the different recipes to try to give us new ideas. The ease of using the chicken straight from the freezer saves us time. Thanks for including us in the trail!
mummytosophia · 30/05/2017 22:33
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken? Yeah I found it okay. The kids loved it though!
  2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? I think it's good value when you can get it on offer. Otherwise I wouldnt say its great value especially when it comes to the chicken chargrills as the portion size is quite small. My husband would need at least 2!
  3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? Yes definitely!
  4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? Yes this is reassuring.
  5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? Yes I probably would. The kids loved the Taco recipe and so did the adults! It's definitely something I would make again and would be so handy to throw something together from the freezer.

Thanks for including me on the trial, I enjoyed taking part.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I don't eat meat, but my DH and DS enjoyed them.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, it was cheaper than I expected, although the dippers were smaller than expected. Toddler DS needed four.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes, I'd choose Birds Eye over supermarket own brands.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes, though of course truly free range would be ideal. I would pay up to £4-5 for free range breaded chicken.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes.

(NB I filled out the survey but pressed submit before adding my username and email. Fat fingers.)

Chesterell · 30/05/2017 22:35

Thank you for letting us take part in this test.
merliquin · 30/05/2017 22:44

I let DS choose a recipe and help to prepare the meal (posh crispy chicken burgers) which was simple and fun. He even ate lettuce for the first time and only because it was in the recipe!

Yes, the whole family enjoyed the meal - in fact, the kids wanted seconds but struggled to actually eat their extras as they were already full.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, there was enough to fill up a family of five with leftovers.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Definitely. Processed chicken products feel like an occasional lazy option lacking in nutrition but I can feed birds eye to my family, knowing it is nutritious and good quality.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes, I worry about cheap chicken and the conditions the animals are likely to be kept in.

Yes, it went down well!
merliquin · 30/05/2017 22:45

  3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? The reason I purchase birds eye is mainly for the 100% chicken breast,I couldn't stand to feed the kids mushed up bits and bats.
  4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? Yes,I couldn't stand it if from caged. I always buy free range eggs. Would be nice if chicken could be too but that wouldn't be very cost effective.
  5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? Yes,definitely, its very versatile, there's so much you can do with it rather than just on its own.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I enjoyed most of the chicken products we bought. I thought the texture of the chargrills was a bit strange. My husband and son liked all products a lot. They are good to stock up on for the freezer so there are standby meals.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, I think they are. They are usually on offer in our local supermarket which makes them even better value.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it's packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes, there are too many products available that have a poor amount of meat in them or they are inferior quality so it is nice to buy something that you can be reassured is good quality.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It does but I would want to know other details about the conditions they are being kept in to feel completely reassured. Being barn-reared does not necessarily mean good conditions.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, they make a quick and easy dinner which all members of my family enjoy. Thanks for letting me try some new recipes!
