  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
We do enjoy the taste but felt it needed more flavour in terms of seasoning and prefer to get fresh chicken breasts and make our own dippers and crispy chicken as the Birds Eye doesn't seem to have to correct texture.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, I think it is good value especially if you can get it on special offer which you can quite regularly at the supermarket I go to. It's a quick and economic meal when I'm rushed for time.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
It helps that it's one of the better frozen chicken products out there, better meat texture than the cheaper ones and it's always reassuring to know that it's got no additives and preservatives for the family.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Definitely, wouldn't be interested in buying if caged chickens.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Most definitely, as I mentioned, it's a quick and economic meal, tasty enough, they never leave any, and the recipes definitely gave me inspiration and we tried new dishes with the dippers and crispy chicken and chargrilled that we'd never had before. We tweaked them a little, adding our own favourite ingredients. Impressed!

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes, we all enjoyed it. I have been having birds eye for years as my son is so fussy but loves the birds eye chicken.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes! Most supermarkets have deals on all the time but also don't mind paying full price sometimes.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes, it makes me feel less guilty of not cooking nutritious food all of the time! Also quick and easy after a hard day.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes definitely, I always buy free range eggs and the like so it is brilliant that the chickens are never caged.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Of course! I would be lost without birds eye products! It's for the whole family!

Really couldn't have been more impressed, plus when I bought them there was an offer on as well. Will 100% buy again.

PooPooOfferson · 23/05/2017 18:56

I bought the chicken chargrills.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

I thought that the chicken was much better than expected; it was juicy and flavoursome, and didn't taste like I had cooked it from a frozen packet. However, I didn't like the glaze and 'smoke flavouring' as it tasted too artificial. My son didn't like the taste of this either.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

It was good value, particularly as it was on offer at Tescos.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

The chicken meat which is used is 100% chicken breast but chicken consists of 75% of the actual product. I prefer to buy products containing a higher percentage of chicken meat.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Like a previous reviewer, I don't think that barn-reared chickens have a very decent life.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes; I'm going to try the crispy chicken next.

OodleDoodleBug · 23/05/2017 19:13
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes, it was lovely. Crispy batter, not at all soggy.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes, obviously not as cheap as own brand but it is often on special offer and worth paying a little extra for in my opinion.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Definitely. My eldest can be fussy and we struggle with especially with protein, but he will eat chicken dippers without a fight.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes, absolutely.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

We will continue to use Birds Eye chicken. Especially after a helpful kick up the bum to use the products in a more fun way. My boys loved the taco boats recipe, and we have already cooked it again at their request!

Kicking Katsu Don with Birds Eye Chicken Dippers
Our version tasted lovely and our three and five year old loved it too.
Thinking this would be a simple recipe we tried it Sunday night and hadn’t read the method through properly before- if we had, we would have skipped it.
The only place we could find Dashi in a shop is Waitrose and we weren’t traveling all the way there just for that. The Chicken stock suggestion as an alternative gives no mention of quantity or type. This is where our problems and frustrations began as it had been a long day and we thought it would have been a quick and easy recipe. We didn’t think about the fact that there is no indication as to what type of sachet of Dashi is used by London_Dad. Is it:
• a Dried Powder Dashi that he uses (and if so does he mix it with water like normal or use it dry)?
• a sachet of concentrate Dashi Stock Liquid (used straight or diluted like normal)?
• a sachet of ready to use Liquid Dashi Stock?
The alternative suggested is Chicken Stock, implying a liquid hence why this got confusing. We don’t know if this is done with either a choice of Dashi Powder/Chicken Stock CUBE or Dashi Stock/Chicken Stock. After faffing about with trying to find this out and at the same time trying to sort out our two children we decided just to make a standard Katsu curry with the onion, pepper and carrot like normal and using a Yutaka katsu curry stock block that we boil in water.
We oven cooked the Bird’s Eye Chicken Dippers, put them in a large frying pan and poured in the egg so it came out like a Bird’s Eye Chicken Dipper omelette. We kept the rice simple and just boiled up some Basmati with Star Anise and Kaffir Lime Leaf.
As you can see in the picture we served the meal keeping the three components separate on the plates as our children have never had Bird’s Eye Chicken Dippers before and we were unsure whether they would like them. Serving it up like this made it easier for people to eat the bits they did enjoy- as it was, everybody liked everything.
Conclusion: either the ingredients or the method needs to be clearer regarding the Dashi/Chicken Stock type used and also a bit more on plating the meal up – the picture doesn’t give enough of a clue and we couldn’t find this particular London_Dad recipe.
Comparing the ingredient list to the method: we ended up having one sad lonely egg sat on our work surface wondering what on earth it had done wrong. We have tried to reassure the egg that it is not its fault but the recipe’s though we don’t think the egg believes us. Over the next 24 hours the egg showed no signs of improvement in its mood so we have put it back with its siblings. It is still early but we believe the mood of egg is slowly improving – if it doesn’t, then we shall just have to put it out of its misery and scramble its mind with a butter, milk, salt and pepper mind scrambling ray in the saucepan of doom. We vow NEVER to take an egg out of its box again, tearing it away, kicking and screaming, from its siblings if we are not certain it will be used.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken? Us adults felt them mushy and the coating like a sponge. However, my children enjoyed them and I think it helped my 3yo digesst it better as it was soft to chew on.
  2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? Not really, supermarket own better deal.
  3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? Not really just mushed up and not like pure chicken breast.
  4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? yes
  5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? properly not unless it is on offer.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes! I love that there is so much variety in the range too, with flavours and textures to appeal to the whole family and make mealtimes more interesting.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Absolutely. It is an affordable meal option with good pack sizes for the price. The meals don't take long to prepare either - and are a lot better value than a takeaway when you want a quick meal!

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes, it makes me feel like I am making a good choice for my family.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

I would prefer free-range, but barn-reared makes me happier to buy the product than caged. I would not buy it if the birds were caged, so this is an important factor for me.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

I will definitely be feeding my family Birds Eye chicken again - there are many more products in the range which sound appealing and we will be trying these and incorporating the products that we have tried into new meal ideas too.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes, especially the chargrills!

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Especially when it's on special offer!
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes- I often worry that frozen/convenience foods are a less healthy option and may have additives etc.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes- I'm glad that big companies like Birds Eye are promoting better standards over bigger profit margins.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes- though I've tended to buy fresh meat portions this can be quite expensive. It's good to have a well stocked freezer for those hectic days where traffic is bad and time ticks on and all you want is a quick, filling, tasty dinner the whole family will be happy with.

Thanks very much for inviting us to try!

PJbysea · 23/05/2017 20:18
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, it's a safe bet with fussy eaters - very tasty, not too spicy, not too bland.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Definitely, it is not the cheapest around but the quality is reliable so still great value.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? That is very reassuring, I try to avoid any additives in our food. The fact that it is healthy is the most important factor in choosing our
family food.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
That is good but I would be happier with free range, I would pay a little more for that.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? I would. This has been interesting, I wouldn't have thought of using BE chicken as part of a recipe before. I am always glad to have an idea for a meal "from scratch" without cooking from scratch. I am also happier without all the faffing about with raw chicken and food poisoning risks.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, we all enjoyed the taste. They were better than i thought they would be. Perfect for a freezer standby.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, especially when it was on offer.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes, knowing that makes me much more likely to purchase.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Not something i normally look for, but good to know.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, my children loved the recipes especially the tasty taco boats with chicken dippers. Will now be a firm weekly favourite. Loved having the ideas of what to put the chicken with.
serendipity1980 · 23/05/2017 21:25
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I thought it was ok, not as good as fresh chicken in terms of taste texture but ok. DC loved chicken dippers, chicken breast not so much although they still ate it. DH said it tasted like cheap reconstituted chicken.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Fairly good value but I'd rather pay more for fresh chicken. The chicken breasts were small.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Good to know it's chicken breast but it's still going to be off cuts and I want to know how they are looked after, bet they aren't free range.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes a bit but they aren't free range and I want to know that they adhere to RSPCA standard.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
No - I prefer to make fresh meals with chicken that is free range.

The taco boat recipe was a success with some adaption and we used the chicken burger recipe. They aren't very creative though and I'd rather ma,e my own recipe.
Many thanks for including us in the trial - we did enjoy it and it got the children excited about new menu ideas. Will try my own though next time!

Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I purchased some Birds Eye Crispy Chicken and yes, I enjoyed the taste and texture of the chicken. It tasted much nicer than I was expecting.

Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
I thought the Birds Eye chicken was good value - I paid £2.00 for a packet of four chicken breasts.

Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives – and that it’s packed with protein – make you more likely to purchase the in future?
Yes, I was surprised to learn that there were no additives or preservatives. I thought I had heard that it was 100% chicken, though wasn’t sure, but was very pleasantly surprised to learn there were no additives or preservatives. It certainly makes me more likely to purchase the chicken again as it was very versatile and the whole family enjoyed it.

Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
I am surprised that the chickens are barn-reared and never caged, due to the competitive price. However, that does support my core values and so I am happier to purchase Birds Eye Chicken products, knowing the chickens have not been cooped up in cages.

Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
I already have fed Birds Eye chicken to my family again. On the first occasion, we ate tortillas with Birds Eye Crispy Chicken, peppers, onions, sour cream, salsa and cheese. The following week, we used Birds Eye Chicken Chargrills sliced over a fresh salad. I think the different products in the Birds Eye chicken range are very versatile – they don’t take long to cook and can be used in a number of ways to provide a healthy portion of protein as part of a daily meal.

I enjoyed taking part in this trial - the recipe book was useful, although I slightly modified some of the meals, it gave me ideas to follow but I would amend the recipes to fit with different family requirements. I found the products to be particularly good value and so could buy several different types to try and will use them all to cook different meals that my whole family can enjoy.

We made the "Posh Chicken Burgers" and my 3 year old son, husband and I absolutely loved them. My husband mentioned that he found them similar to a certain fast food chicken burger and that it was a good thing. I agreed on both counts. We also had corn and home made chips to make a real, big Saturday night meal of it. We agreed that we would never have thought of doing anything with them other than just serving them as they are. Something we hadn't done since we were single but didn't really seem like much food on their own. This really opened our eyes!

1/ We really enjoyed the taste
2/ I do think they're good value. I think thy're on special a lot in a few of the major supermarkets as well.
3/ Knowing they're made of chicken breast makes it more likely that I'd get them again and feed them to my kids.
4/ I'm reassured knowing the chickens re cared for.
5/ Definitely would feed it to the family again.

Thanks Bird's Eye and Mumsnet

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
No complaints from family, I liked the taste.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, I was, quite pleasantly surprised by the price. I also saw.some.other products from birds eye that I might try which seemed.good value for money.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes. I wouldn't but anything frozen that wasn't 100% chicken breast. I was surprised that they are additive and preservatives free. I would have assumed that being 100% chicken they would have the same.protein level as normal.chicken fillets.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Very much so. I buy free range as standard and am careful to look for the origin and farm.assured marks.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, but not in the style I prepared it with the recipe for tacos provided. I think I would probably use the chicken dippers or chargrilla for a quick and easy tea for.children rather than for me and my husband although I think we will maybe try something from.the inspirations range for a speedy tea.

Yes, it was nice.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
It was fairly good value but more expensive than supermarket brands which I'd usually buy.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
I hadn't thought about it before - I'd assumed most were. If they're not, then yes I'd be more likely to buy them again.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
No, they're not free range because they're not egg laying I thought? I'm not sure it's relevant but willing to be corrected!

Yes.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

I actually really did. It was a product I really didn't think I would ever buy to tell you the truth. Really enjoyed the chicken chargrills. Succulent & tasty!

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes I do think what I bought was good value. I hit on tesco when they had offers on their birds eye products so could get even more value for money!

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes. I am not a purist but I do always try to serve healthy meals to my family. Anything that is as natural as it can be always stands in my favour. The packed with protein doesn't sway me much though as chicken is protein anyway so I would assume it would be without needing to be told!

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes makes me feel the products are better for you than I expected anyway.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

I would. I wouldn't serve it on a weekly basis but will definately get chicken chargrills to pop in my freezer for a quick tea fix when needed.

My favourite recipe was the chicken chargrills (the bird eye recipe was in pittas) in wraps & packed with salad. Everyone enjoyed it!

Thanks for selecting me. I have really enjoyed taking part (& trying something new!)

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes! Very much so. Very moist and juicy. Kids loved it too.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
This is where I struggle tbh. I used to buy birds eye products but, as a fairly new single parent, I had to tighten my belt considerably. I can't justify spending £1 more on a regular basis.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
If money was no object, I would always buy them. Especially now having revisited and tasted the difference. I can't afford to be an ethical shopper any more though and only stick to free range eggs and chicken when I can.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes, as previously stated, ethical shopping is an unaffordable luxury at present. I try to substitute veggies if I'm feeling poor or buy free range etc when it's yellow snickered and freeze it.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
If I can get it on offer, yes! Definitely! We tried the burgers and it was only the avocado the kids didn't like (green mushy stuff. Yuck!) But the chicken was very well received and even the kids noticed the difference in quality.

Thanks for the chance to test this. I'll definitely try some of the other recipes and because I was in that bit of the freezer there were some other things I'd like to try too.

We tried the chargrilled chicken and the dippers - dippers went down really well but no one liked the chargrilled chicken.

Yes
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Bit disingenuous to say it's 100% chicken when 25% of the chargrilled chicken is whatever's in the coating.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It does a bit but I would really prefer an organic free-range option
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Unlikely to be honest but if I was buying chicken nuggets I would consider Birds Eye.

It's really important and means we will choose the birds eye products over other brands.

Yes, it means it's higher quality. We avoided frozen chicken as we thought it meant more processed lower quality meat so this is good .

Thank you for the vouchers and the opportunity to take part. Here's my family's feedback.

  1. I really like Birds eye chicken , especially the hot and spicy ones. My boys like the southern fried ones and my husband the crispy chicken. I buy a selection and we make wraps and salads at the table. We are not so keen on the Chargrills. I thought they looked better on the packaging than they turned out.

  2. The chicken is excellent value and is very often on half price offers. I have 2 teenaged boys who like their meat and this chicken is a very economical way of feeding them.

  3. Yes the quality and the non additives are very important to me.

  4. I would have thought that the chicken would have come from caged chickens because of the price. I am really pleased to see I was wrong.

  5. I will definitely feed this chicken to my family. On average we have these products twice a month.

On another note the Birds Eye Inspirations salt and pepper fish fingers are to die for!! We have them in sandwiches, thick white bread and tartare sauce. Absolutely scrummy.

Thanks again

I got it on sale which was helpful! The sale price was good value, not so sure about full price. I would probably just buy a chicken
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes. I always saw it as low quality meat so knowing this definitely makes me much more likely to buy it.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It's a bonus. Free range would be better but I'll be honest price would come first to us at the moment (sadly)
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes. It's not something I would have considered before but knowing it's 100% chicken breast, not just the dodgy bits, and having the recipe ideas which showed you can do more with it than shove it next to chips and beans have definitely made me reconsider

I read the above comments on the welfare question and I think it's repellent of you as a company to adhere to an industry minimum standard yet attempt to manipulate your customers into thinking that it's a caring and ethical move on your part.
