We are looking for 50 MNers, with at least one child under the age of 12, to test the new Google Home. If selected, you’ll receive the product, worth £129, and get to keep it! Grin

What you’ll need do: Test Google Home for two weeks and give feedback on your experience by posting on a feedback thread as well as completing a short survey.

Here’s what Google has to say about the product: “The time we get to spend at home with our family and friends is pretty special. So what if technology could help us make the most of those moments, instead of sometimes pulling our attention away from them? Google Home is a hands-free smart speaker powered by the Google Assistant that does just that. Whether you want to get answers from Google, enjoy your music*, manage your everyday tasks and control compatible smart devices around your home, all you have to do is say “Ok Google”.

*Google Home is optimised for selected music services only. Subscriptions/payments may be required.

Below is a video about the product:

Lol. I just plugged mine I again to see and it's working too

iemma321q · 30/05/2017 18:32

Did you do anything special to get it working?

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 18:34

First impressions? She's not as good as Siri. He's far wittier.

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 18:36

I just plugged mine in. Nothing more.

Then she refused to speak to me until I did something unspecified in "settings" in the app. Very unhelpful as there were no cues as the what I needed to do. Not great for people who aren't tech confident (e.g. My parents!!)

iemma321q · 30/05/2017 18:40

Mine won't connect to the internetConfused

rupert23 · 30/05/2017 18:54

A few problems setting up seems to be working now just trying to sort out the music for the boys.they are very excited now .thank you

Remove the device from the list on the google home app.
Then, press and hold the mute button for at least 25 secs. It tells you it's doing a system reset and if you want to cancel let go (or something along those lines). Don't let go of the button.
The lights change to orange for a while, turn off and then it comes back on (this takes a little while). The lights are now multi coloured.
When it has reset then it asks you to start the google home app and you go through the process of linking the app to the Google home again.
Previously when I did this it went through very quickly but wouldn't work at all. However, this time it checked the wifi signal strength (told me it wasn't strong enough) so I went back and tried again and the signal was fine. It then went through the email details etc. But remembered them from last time so no need to add those again.
The final step was an update (showed on the screen as a large arrow pointing down) which took around 10-15 mins.
The small light on the back remains white now. When I first asked questions I only got a reply which cut short. After 10 mins it righted itself.
So happy with it, hope the above helps someone Smile

Wow!! It's amazing!

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 19:34

The sound is pretty good.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 19:43

Ours is now working. It did the download lights but not for ages, then updating lights, then the colourful ones again. My 7yo is in her element and my 2yo had to say good night to it Grin

Candyperfumegirl · 30/05/2017 19:44

Got ours up and running in time for tea, listened to some Mexican music to go with our tacos and asked it some interesting things, fun . Love it so far Grin

Candyperfumegirl · 30/05/2017 19:44

Haha ask it 'ok Google party on Wayne'

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 19:45

Yes, I agree that the sound is excellent. Now looking to find some good instructions to link two gmail accounts to it.

ShelaghTurner · 30/05/2017 19:57

Gaaaahhhh can't get it to connect. Angry

iemma321q · 30/05/2017 20:09

I'm still struggling too. Think it might be something to do with using BT wifi but not certain.

ShelaghTurner · 30/05/2017 20:11

I'm on virginmedia and our wifi can be patchy but it's perfectly fine today. GH is just not playing ball Angry

iemma321q · 30/05/2017 20:12

Can i ask what happens when you try to connect?

ShelaghTurner · 30/05/2017 20:18

But more success here. Updating now....

It did just keep saying it couldn't connect although it had found the device.

BabytoBoris · 30/05/2017 20:22

Purple if you find instructions about two accounts please can you share? Thanks.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 20:22

Does this link help identify your problem? I have found calling Google helpful and they ran through some stuff with me. Mine was definitely the downloading issue and I have moved the Home into the dining room near the router to be sure it's within range.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 20:24

babytoboris sadly multiple accounts are US only but coming to the UK 'soon'. Looking forward to that as it will open up loads more functionality for us.

ShelaghTurner · 30/05/2017 20:40

It's working! And it's fab! Kids are loving it. Poor Google Home....

BabytoBoris · 30/05/2017 20:43

Thanks purple, that's helpful.

rupert23 · 30/05/2017 20:53

working fine and kids are having so much fun i think google will be worn out! it even knows my sons nickname now so we have all been laughing at that.

ShelaghTurner · 30/05/2017 21:00
