We are looking for 50 MNers, with at least one child under the age of 12, to test the new Google Home. If selected, you’ll receive the product, worth £129, and get to keep it! Grin

What you’ll need do: Test Google Home for two weeks and give feedback on your experience by posting on a feedback thread as well as completing a short survey.

Here’s what Google has to say about the product: “The time we get to spend at home with our family and friends is pretty special. So what if technology could help us make the most of those moments, instead of sometimes pulling our attention away from them? Google Home is a hands-free smart speaker powered by the Google Assistant that does just that. Whether you want to get answers from Google, enjoy your music*, manage your everyday tasks and control compatible smart devices around your home, all you have to do is say “Ok Google”.

*Google Home is optimised for selected music services only. Subscriptions/payments may be required.

Below is a video about the product:

Thanks and good luck!

Turned mine off for now, will try later! A bit disappointing but can't be helped.

Penguinbeaver · 30/05/2017 12:53

Oh. Seems we're having similar update problems as everyone else. Will leave it for now and come back to it. Confused

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 14:01

Have to say I'm disappointed. I was so excited!

iemma321q · 30/05/2017 14:08

I feel the same soupdragon. Hopefully it will all be working soon.

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 30/05/2017 14:11

Same here. Got mine this morning (amid some confusion cos I'd forgotten about it!) Tried to set it up all excited and nada, zip, zilch, zero. I rang Google too, nice chap, said the same that they'd let me know when a fix was immient ..wonder if it's a dodgy batch? Bit of a bummer for product test when you can't even set it up!!

Moodykat · 30/05/2017 14:22

If I'd have actually bought one I think I would be rather cross!

TheFrenchLieutenantsMonkey · 30/05/2017 14:31

We've just said this too moody think there'll be quite a few going back over the next few days.

KatoPotato · 30/05/2017 14:37

Is this closed?

Penguinbeaver · 30/05/2017 14:40

Reported ours with google home help. They are aware of the issue with some of them and are working to resolve it?? Should be contacted in the next 24hours apparently.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 14:46

Thanks for the update penguin, I just tried calling them again for an update but couldn't get through. I'd be really annoyed if I had bought it and it would really put me off getting another (although I wonder if it's server related rather than hardware!)

Candyperfumegirl · 30/05/2017 14:51

Just gave mine another go but it's still timed out during the update, me&the kids are a little disappointed as we were super excited to receive it early this morn. Wondering if to ring Google support or just box it back up and try again tomorrow

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 16:03

Just phoned Google again now. It's apparently a problem with the update it's trying to download. They just said they'd be in touch when there's a fix.

BeeMyBaby · 30/05/2017 16:16

Ours has been 'updating' for a couple of hours now, phoned the google home helpline that someone further up in the thread helpfully posted so should get a call when they have fixed the update.

Loopyaboutmy2boys · 30/05/2017 16:36

Ours has arrived and tried setting it up, but have the same issue as others, with the white downloading lights. What is the number people have been phoning to let them know it's not working?

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 16:39

Do we need to phone though? If it's been reported, will they just fix the update and then everyone's will download it properly?

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 16:39

I posted it on page9... 0800 026 1217 Smile

PurpleCrazyHorse · 30/05/2017 16:41

I expect so soupdragon however they've taken contact details from those who've phoned and say we'll get a call or email when it's sorted. However I'm sure there will be a flurry of posting on here too, so you probably don't need to bother.

I've turned mine off for now for fear of wearing out the white LEDs Grin

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 16:42

Yeah, I assumed this thread would alert me to the fact it was all working again :) I just hate phoning people!

countingdown · 30/05/2017 17:01

I turned mine off before I went out today, hoping it would be fixed by the time we got home. I'm home and it still doesn't work.

Not sure I can face calling them, might just wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Wonder how many more times my 7 year old is going to ask, "Is it working yet?"

SoupDragon · 30/05/2017 17:05

Wonder how many more times my 7 year old is going to ask, "Is it working yet?"

Tell them to ask Google... oh, wait. Dammit.

OhDearToby · 30/05/2017 17:12

I think I'm the only one who hasn't got theirs yet 😥 although if they're not even working maybe that's a good thing. I can imagine it's extremely frustrating!

Gazelda · 30/05/2017 18:05

Mine just sprang into life! It's now told me the temperature but was a bit vague when I asked if I should wear PJs in bed tonight!

NerrSnerr · 30/05/2017 18:10

We got ours this morning, will give it a go when we put the toddler in bed. We are very excited about trying it, although a lot of features are not available in the U.K. yet.

Moodykat · 30/05/2017 18:12

Mine is working! The kids just came running out to tell me they'd put ed sheeran on. No idea how!

mummyeme · 30/05/2017 18:18

It's working hooray! It's incredible.
Got it to start by doing a complete reset (by pressing and holding the mute button).
Good luck everyone it's well worth it :)
